It was the best video huge fan with you giving so many tips that are never addressed in books or videos I have seen. Question I wanted to print out transcript of everything you said even though I took notes. When I click on transcript I don't see anything different am I missing something? What should I see when I click on transcript if anyone knows? Loved it!!!
TBH I have no idea. LOL. Didnt even know that was a thing. Im very basic with these videos. I just saw the otehr day I can add links to the screen of the video. MINDBLOWN! LOL Sorry
This has been the most helpful tutorial yet. A year into ceramics and I’m still intimidated by the wheel. I hopped back on a couple weeks ago and threw my first cylinder with meh results. But watching and listening to you had given me new insights. You’re a gifted teacher. Thank you!!😊
In my opinion, you are the best teacher I ever saw at RU-vid!!! Great, sympatic and a real power-woman! Thank you soooooo much! 🧡👍 Greetings from Danmark… Anne
Aw thanks Holly! Everyone makes the same common errors. I want people to know it’s super hard. And they are not the only ones messing up a pot!!! I’m glad you enjoy it
I have watched dozens and dozens of tutorials of how to throw the basic cylinder and I have to tell you you are the best, the best, the best, the best thank you very much
Aweeee Thanks. Its sort of a passion of mine! Spreading the #clayaddiction. I really love seeing it click in my students. if you are ever in NJ stop by one of my studios! I just put up a long one. Three cylinders of varying widths! enjoy!
This is super helpful thank you. I've just finished a 6 week throwing course and am now a member of my local studio and trying to practice my throwing but I am struggling. I'll watch this just before I throw next time I'm there. Thank you!
Love your video. I’m having a very hard time throwing cylinders. My next pottery class will take your advice and throw a bunch. Keeping mu fingers crossed that this will help. I’m sure I will get back to this video a few more times!!
Really helpful tutorial, thank you. I teach beginners and find that one of the largest stumbling block is double jointed fingers, ie, fingers that can bend in a backwards curve. They are common here. People with fingers like that really struggle with things like opening the floor and hooking the fingers with enough stability and strength. The inside fingers when pulling up is another trouble spot. How do you modify your teaching technique for people like that?
My cylinders always end up bottom heavy…it’s difficult to gauge when I’m getting all of the clay up …only after it dries enough for me to pick it up..Any thoughts?
I often talk about the "corrective pull" That first pull should even out the clay so that from the VERY start your walls are consistent. Then you dont have to worry about the top being too thin because you didnt let up on the pressure. (and your bottom wont be so heavy!
@@MudgirlPottery where in NJ are you? I’m originally from Hoboken and have relatives in Bridgewater and Lyndhurst who I sometimes visit. Anything is possible, right?
Watch Florian Gadsby, no offense to this lady, but she actually does things improperly for teaching pottery to beginners. You will love his videos! They are so soothing and his step by step instruction is so easy to follow! Watch his video: "How to Center Clay - A Beginners Guide"
@@jakeperalta9608 was that really a necessary comment. If you look at my comments and ask any of the 1200 people that have come through I have taught they disagree with you. Thanks for the feedback. But really? Necessary?
@@MudgirlPottery I've been throwing for 20 years so I'm not a beginner by any means. I watched this video twice and picked up some great tips and advice. I have no idea what this guy found to be incorrect in your video. It was so unnecessary and rude to make that remark. Your video was easy to follow and your narration of what you were doing was on the money. I'm a new fan of yours! 😊
