I used to box a lot and then taught boxing for a few years... I have thought a lot about how this information is conveyed. Pat is a PHENOMENAL TEACHER. I like how he told the guy " I'm not going to hit you. I'm just using you as a reference point" because that situation, even a demonstration, is very unnerving for someone who's not used to it. He explained things well and also asked for questions at the end.

Funny the timing this shows up on my feed, just started teaching this shit and bit more to my 6 year old daughter over the weekend -been having some boy bully trouble on the recess field. Biggest part for those who are innocent among us is being able to break that seal to actually commit violence, gotta be able to flip that switch and do work without hesitation. Daddy ain't raising no victim, she'll be OK.

I got attacked in my home by a crackhead once. He had wondered around the block and tried to get doors open, and I had forgot to lock it after taking the dog out. If I had lived in Texas or something I would have shot him dead, but in Sweden you can’t really do that. It ended with me stabbing the guy two times, but before that I remember punching his head anywhere between 5-10 times. He had hunkered down, after my father had tackled him into a wall, and I threw punches from above. At the time I didn’t know much about martial arts or boxing, and in hindsight I think that punching him like that did more damage to my hands than it did to his thick skull. After that incident I have spend a lot of hours boxing, and I think that everyone should do the same. No matter who you are there will always be people out there who will try to hurt you, and you need to be prepared for that. Choose to not be a victim.

Hi Pat. Just wanted to thank you. I have a 14-year-old nephew I’m extremely close with. He’s at that age When things can just happen. I was a competitive martial artist as a younger man, and started training him up a bit when he was 10 or 11, but then my health went down the toilet, I’m too unhealthy to get out of bed, I’m no longer able to mentor my nephew With direct training. So I’ve been sending him your videos. This is the second one I’ve sent him. The first one what is the video where are you set to circle the aggressor instead of backing away from the aggressor. I couldn’t have agreed more, I sent it straight to my nephew, and he immediately engaged with it. He understood immediately why you council people to do this and he found it fascinating. So thank you for helping me prepare my nephew.

Good lesson, one point to add. Once most get done with their 1 & 2 strikes, they don’t move off line. They stand right in front of their opponent. You need to learn how to properly step off angle and load up your next combo. In reality, before showing 1 & 2 combo, they should learn footwork via box drill

I am by no means a street fighter. I am a avoid a fight kinda guy. I did learn as a LE officer that hands break. The more knowledgeable guys that did fight and teach a lot said if you must, use stick or taser. If you can not one up the threat with a weapon, use elbows, knees, head strikes. Practice elbow, knee, head strikes 10 k times. Actually hit sparring partner wearing motorcycle helmet for real time training. There is a lot to it. If a fight should happen to go to the ground, as many do, and the fella is a ground fighter, could be a big problem. Like Tyson says, everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. Hopefully, training takes over if that happens. Great video. It really gets me thinking. Glad to be retired and not having to do this all the time. Thankful for our frontline skilled warriors and teachers like Pat, that are training the younger generation.

The only thing I can think to add is make sure to squeeze your fist as tightly as possible, and firmly lock your wrist. I've seen a number of people hit a heavy bag for the first time and hurt themselves. Hell I did it when I was a kid and just learning. You gotta really take all the space out of the inside of your fist, and remove all the wiggle frim your forearm if you want to throw your best punch. Oh... and it's gonna hurt like hell no matter how well you throw the #2. Punching face bones is painful.

Great content as always. Thoughts on closed fist striking and the chance of injuring yourself? I was told once, soft hand on hard target (palm) and hard hand (closed fist) on soft target. Just thinking things escalate, if you had to go for your weapon and now you got a broken hand.
@talon2pro
@talon2pro 2 года назад
I was taught to step through the person as the punch/punches are thrown. It adds that much more mass to contact. (watch Bruce Lee's one-inch punch) Most people can't handle you being inside their space, so this psychologically freaks them out while they are jarred with punches. Your spot on with the center-mass strikes. A solar plex shot can end a battle in one punch. Most don't defend that area.

If you aim for his upper chest, many times you will hit him in the face or throat because most fighters duck down when they are attacking. So, if you are having trouble landing shots on a fighter with quick reflexes,.....go for the spot right beneath his throat. Also, throw a few fakes. And if that fails, go for the groin punch. Throw two or three punches to the chest area, and follow it up with a couple of groin shots. And remember that your punching power comes from the rotation from your feet, through your legs, through the rotation of your hips, through your stomach, and through the rest of your body through your fist.
