I am a high school student who has been taking ceramics in school 3 years, as well as learning at my studio at home. I am incredible devoted and committed to my ceramics work, and it feels like a passion now. You are my biggest inspiration in this craft, and I have learned and grown so much because of your videos. I have actually been able to sell some of my work, and I feel like I am constantly learning every single day. Thank you for the high quality content and knowledge that you have been sharing.

These videos are making me want to try porcelain again, when I was learning, I did a bit and I hated it, but when I see the beuty you can get from it, it really makes me want to hop onto clayking and buy some porcelain.

I always make it to the end of every one of your videos. It is always nice to see your works come to fruition in the end, and I appreciate the tips you share in every video. I picked up wheel throwing for an art project that I had to do before I graduated high school, and you have helped me so much through my observations and your tips. I am still fairly new to ceramics, but the art teachers were very impressed by what I could do despite my disability (I was dubbed the first "one-armed potter" at my high school). Regardless of my inexperience, I am willing better my abilities through every bit of knowledge and experience that I can get, and you are one of my primary sources of knowledge. Thank you for everything and keep up the great work!

How do you store the clay that came from the manufacturer and wasn't used yet? What do you with the clay that has dried out?

At 8:10 is a trimmer made by Jaejun Lee leejaejun.com/HOME and the one at 12:36 is one made by Phil Poburka, bisonstudios.com Both aren't available all the time. They open their shops sporadically and you have to be waiting, ready to purchase. Fantastic tools though.

What is the small spade-shaped solid tool that makes an appearance about 7.50? I can never seem to find the right tool to make a crisp corner between the foot ring and outside curve. It doesn't look like a Bison of which I have several and adore. Apologies if you already said somewhere. I very much appreciate your helpful videos and hope to see your work in person someday.

Absolutely awesome! Is the groove still necessary with the black glaze? I would assume it might run a bit less then a snowflack crackle.
@floriangadsby
@floriangadsby 2 года назад
Thanks Clarence! It moves less that's for sure but I'm a sucker for tall foot rings regardless, that being said, when I use this black glaze next it's going on thicker so the groove could still be useful yet.

Would you say there is a significant difference between porcelain and porcelain substitutes? I know that quite often the substitutes aren't translucent, but is there a tactile difference, and does it throw very differently?
@floriangadsby
@floriangadsby 2 года назад
I can't say I have enough experience with porcelain substitutes to really answer that. I'd imagine they're easier to throw and won't punish poor craftsmanship quite so much but I've only ever used a few porcelains and a grogged variant, which was quite nice to use. Perhaps someone else reading might be able to answer your question in more detail. Thanks for watching!

This makes me wish I could've tried porcelain before the wet clay work ended this semester, although I'm not even sure if my school has any... I just clean it really well 😬 I don't worry so much when going from porcelain to stoneware, as the porcelain just sort of blends into the iron red clay but when I go from stoneware to porcelain I give the place a much more thorough clean.
