Throwing an Indian type "Rabbit Stick." Usually thrown 10 yds or less. I'm throwing at 30 yds. This one is laminated and about 30% heavier than a regular one. Some are made to throw out 50 meters are more.
Made by John Cryderman. One of the worlds best boomerang, throwing stick makers and designers. www.worldsgreatboomerangs.com/ Thrown by Gary J.

Thanks, Gary. It’s good to see a video where an intelligent person knows how to demonstrate the throwing stick. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Thank you for posting. Not too shabby for a 30 yard throw. It's easy to see that even at this distance. flock "shooting" is easily possible. Pretty effective device when ya consider how often we surprise critters on walks at really close distances. Things aren't always the way people view hunting when they dream of long shots with scoped rifles and compound bows with sights full of pins.

Riggs, they are fun to throw. They were made to throw about 10-30 ft. I just wanted to see how they do at 30 yds.

That's a nice looking rabbit stick. I might try my hand at making one of those.

Jason this one is about 30% thicker than a regular one. It throws beautifully. There is a specific aerodynamic design to these type that help them go straight and level.

Thanks Wade. They are not easy to make. the airfoil is the difficult part and getting the right curve in the stick. I have some that I throw over a 100 meters.

knightingalesaid do the airfoils on rabbit sticks work only on one direction of rotation?

I would have thought they are still both ways but the opened out V shape keeps it straight. Straight boomerang, straight flight...

Riggs, I might hit something in a flock. These are made for probably less than 30 feet.

It looks like the stick corects it's tragectory as it flies. Was that day windy or the stick flies like that?

It flies like it threw it. My technique could have been better at the time. I have thrown a lot more since then.

It looks too heavy and does not fly straight enough even for medium hunting distances. How far is the target?
@knightingalesaid
@knightingalesaid 9 лет назад
abdulkabza I'm throwing this stick about 27 meters. Its heavy enough that the wind doesn't affect it much like the lighter ones. It throws in a straight line. I could throw it out to about 50 meters. These are really made for short range (10-30 feet).

Angle this is more a tutorial, not real life hunting video. You need to try throwing these sticks. They are a lot of fun. And be nice Angle!

That is not a Hopi stick! It looks likes a half boomerang. My cousin is Hopi and I half Apache we used sticks with a partial bow in them, when we were kids. We would age it, if we could not, we burnt them for hardening. We practiced over and over from large targets to a smal target the size of a rock. We hunted Rabbits and squirrels. I teach may son these tactics and skills today. Done correctly you can do it with limited body motion from a squating, running or hidden positon. We could get a good 25 to 45 yards depending on the weight and size of stick also the quiter the better.

Tomas Amadis Thanks for your assessment. This one is made by a great boomerang and kylie (killing stick,) maker. They have taken on some different forms. Cryderman made this one aerodynamically perfect. Yours are probably a little lighter and faster. Thanks for your comment.

You hold on to the stick to long. 1.2.3 don`t work, the rabbit would have been 2 miles away by the time you let that stick go.

John michael Jones Yep, I probably wouldn't hit him anyway. I'm trying to give the critter a hopping chance.
