THRU- HIKING 22 MILES IN THE ENCHANTMENTS IN ONE DAY! Alpine Lakes Wilderness

Bri and I set off on the 22 mile infamous day hike, The Enchantments, in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Washington State (no permit needed!). This point- to- point thru hike is the hardest hike Bri or I have ever done, but it was also surprisingly the most beautiful hike either of us have done. To do this 22 mile hike as a multi-day trip, you need permits that sell out years in advance... the loophole is you don't need a permit if you do it in one day...

Thanks a million for your video. I've been right where you were, but it was 50 years ago. We started at trailhead in the daylight, and camped at Lake Colchuck the rest of the day and the night. Next morning early we started our trek. We played for a short while on Colchuck Glacier then accended the pass to the Enchantments. Half way up the pass we fed the Yellow Belly Marmots some trail mix by hand. We also helped some young ladies that were tryig to decend from the pass. They couldn't see where their feet were going in the steep terrain, so we hand held their feet to the next rock down in their steps. Once we reached the Enchantments we lingered for a short while then returned via the same way we took up. It's the most beautiful country my eyes and feet have ever been in. Thanks for the memories. I was in my early 20's then. I'm in my early 70's now, and will never return.

Did this thru hike a couple of years ago...loved it (except the last 7ish miles). The core is exceptionally beautiful and Colchuck is always worth the work! Cheers ;)

Yeah we definitely over carried in hindsight. But a lot of it was also camera gear, worth it!

Epic thru hike! Awesome video. I use and recommend a sawyer squeeze filter. Practically a lifetime filter life w back flushing in between hikes. You can fill your bladders and not worry about running out of water. If you want to save weight, bring a 1L water bottle. The squeeze screws directly on. Keep posting these great vids. Enjoy watching your adventures

Wow I’ve never heard of that but sounds amazing, and it would be so nice to save on water weight lol. It gets so heavy, I’ll have to check it out. Thank you!

Thank you very much. Looking back, I’m really not too happy with the video quality, and storytelling. But nonetheless one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done, and a fun video memory for ys. Thanks for watching

The mountain you were looking at wasnt Rainier. Rainier is south of the Enchantments, not north. You were seeing either Glacier Peak or Mount Baker, both also volcanoes.

Hopefully you have learned a little more about avoiding blisters. But two things, NEVER ever wear cotton socks, and bring extra socks with you in your pack. Change your socks if they get wet, and every 10-ish miles, or at the halfway point. You should never get blisters if you have the right shoes and socks. This from an ex army guy who did many many miles in boots with a ruck sack & weapon.

My feet sweat a lot and in my last 23 mile day hike, I was struggling with lots of blisters! I had socks that were not supposed to give me blisters, changed my socks 3 times, I prep my toes to avoid blisters and still got them, I ended up with 8 blisters on my feet… what can you recommend for me since I also want to do this hike?

Did it yesterday , 6:45am to 5:30 pm from Colchuck lake trailhead to Snow lake trailhead. Awesome first 7 miles and not so much last 11 (: btw my watch shows 18 miles.

The hike is epic. I’m planning to visit Washington this July. For the park pass, do you have to buy in advance or you can pay $5 at the trail head? Did you call and pay for your own shuttle taxi?

Great video. I am a big fan of helmets so, don’t take this question wrong. Did you really need a helmet in retrospect? Wondering if I need to take one this summer. Cheers!
@KevinEassa
@KevinEassa 3 года назад
In retrospect, no it wasn't necessary. I am saying this solely for the Enchantments route (if you plan on doing any summits you probably will need). Another reason I think it wasn't fully necessary is because we climbed Aasgard Pass before anyone else the day we did it, if people were ahead of us there's a much higher chance of rockfall so it's hard to say from our experience. We left so early so depends on your plan, hope this helps! thanks for watching!

I did this hike from 6:30AM to 10:30 PM. lol. My take away is that: dont bring extra shit that you dont need, wear long sleeves for protection from the sun and damn mosquitos, bring a good water filter and lots of food, a good headlamp, and wear a hiking shoe (no gym shoes lol on this one).
