FYI: To increase ventilation with the rain cover on, use the 6 included clips to raise the rain cover off the frame to increase air circulation. You can also open up the two air vents in the front bodem of the cart and if you don't use the two back pockets air will circulate around the head from the back.

Thanks for sharing I've been looking for a review since I've notice the new Thule trailer. We've been using the original Chariot CX1 for 1.5 year now and love it (I say original because when Thule bought Chariot they started to make changes right away that made it less appealing than the original). Personally I think the only 2 things I like about the new version that Thule designed is the reclined seat that are awesome and the locks for big city use. But since the recline shouldn't be used while cycling, running or skiing anyway it's a short live for us as if my kids falls asleep while we are out at the market and need to go back home biking I would have to wake my kids to be able to pull the seat up to bike (I'm 100% convince that some parents would ignore this and cycle/run with the reclined seat but imagine the impact on their back with any holes or bumps; sitting is best for the impact). And you can get around looking the wheels and the chariot without the lock and I wouldn't recommend to rely only on the locks on the chariot; I would still use my cable locks as I trust them more even if it's a little more work... better extra minute locking than have to find out that it was stolen. There's so many downside to the new version that I have decided that we would be better with the older version (original Chariot CX2). From the door that looks so fragile, the sun shade and the rain cover that are store in the truck (the original is all included on the door and you zip the cover and roll it and the rain cover is UV protective, the sun shade is there inside the door and everything just roll away up and attached so you are not searching for it in the bottom of your trunk or pockets and is a quick adjustment). I personally think that having detachable important accessories is a big down and would see many loosing them. Tow thumbs down on this change. I have read that the trunk has reduce in weight capacity. The handle bar, I love the original CX1 multi position handle bar and sure it's not a quick adjustment but if you flip the handlebar you can fit a taller parent (ok, if one is tall and the other short it can be annoying but I'm just in between and my husband is tall and I grown to love the handlebar higher. Most people don't know that about the old chariot that you can just flip the bar). The new handlebar is one straight bar that doesn't appeal to me while running. The windows in the new version don't seem to open, which is one big key point that I loved about the CX1 over all the other model. I can close fully, take the plastic off completely or just open as needed and tuck the window in as a pocket. I use that last mode a lot in the shoulder seasons to get more air in but to keep my child warm. You can do the same in the from with the old version. Overall I'll save some money and buy the good old Chariot (the one that the original maker, Chariot, has designed). We found ways to make our first child comfortable when sleeping so I don't see the reclining as a bonus at all if you are using it to commute by cycling. Finding a use Chariot in good condition is so easy as most buy them and don't use them that much and even if they do the old version (I can't tell for the new version) are VERY sturdy. We got our CX1 from a very active family like us with 3 kids and we are using it regularly and very happy with the condition.

Hello. Thanks for sharing. Why the sling cannot be used while biking?

I recommend to put a longer Mud flap in your Bikes rear wheel....that Keeps Debris Away....in Case the sky is covered One can as well use the sun Cover as protection....just put it in the down part....

Did you mount this on a bike with disc brakes/thru axle? Curious if we need to get a special adapter to mount on a mtb that doesn’t use a quick release skewer

Are you able to run with the stroller wheels if you've got an infant (8 weeks old)?
@caitlinfoisy3842
@caitlinfoisy3842 11 месяцев назад
they do sell an infant sling for smaller babies, but I think in general they don't recommend running with babies less than 6 months if i remember correctly (check manual to be sure, and they are always conservative with their recommendations). When my kiddos were really small I used to go for walks with them with the car seat stroller attached to a different stroller to make sure they had head and neck support. I would also want to be careful of only going on flat paths to minimize bumps.

Do you wish you purchased a double instead of a single the first time? We have one child right now and are planning on having a second kid so I’m thinking of just buying the double now and having an extra seat for now. But if the single is a much better ride maybe I should hold off on the double and get the single until we have a second kid. What are you thoughts, if you could go back in time would you have still started out with the single?
@caitlinfoisy3842
@caitlinfoisy3842 6 лет назад
Sorry Ashley just seeing this now- I purchased the single first and we were happy with that at the time. I wouldn`t change it going back bc the double is just a bit wider and bulkier, and I was doing marathon training pushing my son in the single and didn`t need any more resistance! My kids are also spread out a few years so we were happy with our decision, and Chariots have great resale value so I was able to sell mine for just slightly less that what I paid for mine (used). Really think about how you will be using it, if you aren`t doing lots of long runs and want more room to get grocieries while running errands, double may make more sense! Oh one more thing- depending on how far apart your kids are in age, the older one may not like the stoller anymore (true story), and will want to `run like mom` or ``bike himself`which is obviously great but difficult when you are trying to run. And not sure about your kids but mine in close proximity = lots of poking each other. Good luck!

@@caitlinfoisy3842 Amazing info! I had exactly this question about double versus single for new parents having their first child. With the double, perhaps it also can be useful to be able to transport someone else's child. Did you ever have situations where you had guests in the second seat?
@caitlinfoisy3842
@caitlinfoisy3842 11 месяцев назад
@@dhimmel honestly not often bringing any 'guests' (friends kids), but I guess it depends on your friend network and activities you like to do together!

I've also purchased the Thule chariot cross and am very concerned about the lack of air flow. Using the plastic cover on a hot day is dangerous. It turns the cab into a greenhouse. I was using the plastic cover during a heat wave and my son was getting cranky so I took him out and he was soaked in sweat. Using the plastic cover on a hot day is no better than leaving your child in a vehicle without AC. I've messaged Thule about my concerns and they are more worried about the carbon dioxide levels than the temperature in the cab. Apparently extensive testing has been done and there is adequate air flow but i have first hand experience of this being false. What has been your experience with using the plastic cover on a hot day? Or using it at all....
@Conhead66

I think you bring a good point: the window on the side were a great way to ventilate and love it on the old model (CX1/2). I don't understand why they would take some proven good feature off. The one and only extra on the new version is the reclining seat that I personally don't think would help us as we often use the trailer to commute and you shouldn't use the recline while cycling. If the child falls asleep during our stop (in stroller mode) and want to get back home we have to wake our child up to pull it up. And I dislike that the front covers are in multiple parts making is more likely that you'll lose something.
@shannonf1562

Conhead66 Yes. It's been maybe two months of owning the cross and I've already lost the sun shade. So now I have to buy a replacement shade that costs $30 CAD. Thule does make a model that has all the features that I've wanted and it's called the sport. However. It's only offered in New Zealand. I'm already paying well over $1,000 CAD for this stroller. I'd pay the extra few hundred dollars for the added features of removable side panels, and built in disc breaks. The lock and key feature is nice on the sport for those who use the chariot for a commute. Check it out. I'd buy the chariot sport instantly if it came to Canada and sell the cross.

Shannon Fankhauser I did use the rain cover on a warm day and it did steam up quite quickly to the point I couldn't see inside very well which obviously isn't great. The rain was over quickly and I undid it shortly thereafter. Because my youngest son is too young to go biking with i havent had many opportunities to bike with the cover so can't say too much about it but I do miss the side air vents. Have you tried putting the sun shade then the plastic cover to help deflect some sun or does that not make a difference?
@shannonf1562
@shannonf1562 7 лет назад
Caitlin Foisy We actually misplaced the sun shade (which is another downfall- removable parts). But have ordered another one which should be coming soon.

As mentioned in my other comment, to increase ventilation with the rain cover on, use the 6 included clips to raise the rain cover off the frame to increase air circulation. You can also open up the two air vents in the front bodem of the cart and if you don't use the two back pockets air will circulate around the head from the back. The Chariot Sport has removable side windows and disc brakes. We have the Thule Chariot Cab 2, and we have less circulation from the back since we have the huge cargo space behind the seats. Great for taking stuff to the beach, but limits circulation from the back a bit. On hot days I leave the cover off the cargo area.
