If you don't sell enough merch, doesn't matter how good you are, you'll get the boot. Just ask He-man 2002, Green lantern the animated series, Megas XLR, Sym biotic titan, young Justice, Tower prep,or infinity train.
@@TheNomadicCat it's a lot more than that actually that was just one of the problems. Inconsistent timeslots, older fans complaints , as you said toy sales, legend of chima(which is also the big reason why it got canceled), Etc.
Funny, because a few years back Netflix has a reboot of Voltron which ran something like 5 or more seasons; I don’t remember seeing much or any merchandise or toys.
Sadly that’s a near impossible dream, the staff has all moved on to other things. The Art Director Dan Norton is an amazing artist which even pencilled some Image/Wildstorm comics back in the day.
Thundercats season 2 from 2011 needs more girls names Willa and Nyada sisters in those bow and arrow. Thundercats season 2 needs to continue in more season like the Thundercats season 2 in 1986.
Thundercats 2011 was awesome. I loved the different take on the characters and setting. It never should've been cancelled. They could've at least continued the story via comic books.
Me too. I consider these series infinitely better than the original. The colors, the graphics, the music, even the clothes of the thundercats, EVERYTHING IS EXTRAORDINARILY WELL DONE!!!!!
A show that should have run for multiple years with numerous seasons, like 2003 TMNT. Thundercats 2011 was every bit as good. My childhood favourite that led me to the wonderful 80's series. ❤️
It was bad timing and decisions like time slots. One can tell That a lot of love was out into this show. I really feel for the entire production staff which poured their dedication into this show, such potential for even more growth. Such great characterization and nuance, story plots and morality… Oh would could have been. I truly believe that this rendition was ahead of its time. If it had come out a few years later on a streaming service (like Vloltron) it would have seen more success
It's a shame that the series was never continued, only because toy sales were too low. But at least it has something in common with the equally highly acclaimed Master of the Universe remake series from 2002. And I don't think there's anyone who hasn't been moved by Song of the Petalars.
That's ironic because not even cartoon has a toyline, look at American Dragon Jake Long, that never had a toyline despite getting cancelled because everyone hated the season 2 art style (I actually didn't didn't mind the art style change).
I like a lot of elements of the 2011 Thundercats, and I even came up with a few things they could do with those elements I have yet to share with anyone because I needed access to those platforms for sorts of discussions at the time. One of those elements that I really liked was how most of the races/demographics we see in the series, especially the significant powerplayers, were basically planted on Third Earth via Mummra's conquest vessel crashing on the planet; it was even implied all the animals were descended from those races that were under Mumra's thrall until Leo the rebellion and the ship crashed into Third Earth. What could have made things a bit more interesting is all those races coming to the realization that some of the new animals they meet were native to Third Earth and never part of Mummra's forces, almost as soon as Mummra does, and they have effectively been in hiding from the races, and Mummra, since that the time Mummra's ship came down, so they watch things from more of a distance, and continuing onward until the ones they see as invaders (or at least the descendants of invaders) force their way into the lives of those races, and this forces Lion-O and the rest of the main cast to reevaluate their positions. I also liked how they changed Pumira to closer to someone that could become a close friend to Lion-O, I didn't care much for the romantic angle, but I did like the idea of them both becoming anchors in each other's support network; I despised what they did with her and Mummara (I felt it took too much away from her agency as a character and just turned her into a plot device), I didn't mind the Tygra and Cheetara romantic subplot (didn't like the love the Triangle with Lion-O, didn't quite feel natural or right). I do agree that Wilykit and Wilykat needed more to do that expanded the story than distracted from it, but I also like how they were very much more like kids than their prior iteration. With the next reboot, they should follow the framework of the 2011 series but also make sure to include elements of the original series as well. Keep Lion-O as that teen coming into his own, but instead of Tygra being his adoptive brother, be the child of a royal guard also being trained for that position assigned to keep Lion-O safe, that way can keep some of the elements of 2011, Tygra while folding in elements of the original Tygra and he and Cheetara can have that romantic relationship they had in the 2011 series. You can bring in Panthro a bit earlier as that instructor for Lion-O from the 2011 series while bringing in the prescribed Tygra as Lion-O's sparring partner, which could explain some of the rivalry elements the two have throughout the series. They could bring Pumira early as one of Lion-O's closest friends, and confidants. And bring Bengali in early as a young blacksmith for the royal family; this could help bring in elements of his original iteration and give him more screentime than his 1980s iteration. And that's all I have with ideas and suggestions. I post all this to a Thundercats subreddit and see what happens later.
One of the things I never forgive Cartoon Network or Warner brothers for rest of my life is how frustrating and unfair why they cancelled a great reboot show that is worthy successor to original show thundercats 2011 reboot man I wished this promising reboot series should be revived the same way that revived samurai jack young justice and Star Wars the clone wars all of whom been unfairly cancelled by Cartoon Network
..the reboot never got boring, it was more exciting and more in depth, all this is just trash talking the reboot, disguised as love for it, my generation is the original, all though much loved, but I prefer the reboot and sad it'll never be finished
I say the reboot was pretty solid, all things considered. I've seen the original series all the way through, and most of the reboot, and while most of the things that made people dislike the series were annoying, they made up for it with all the good things. The story, while hard to follow at times, was very interesting, and I would've loved to see it continue. When I learned it was cancelled, I was actually sad, and quite upset that it was cancelled for the reasons that it was. The animation was spectacular and is far superior to some of the animation that we get today in anime. All of the small things that made the series unique made me like it, and I loved it for it was. Same, but different. And, as far as I am concerned, they should re-explore the idea of a new Thundercats series. The only thing that soured the show was the love triangle and Pumira. If I had a say in what to do with that, establish earlier on that Cheetara has no interest in a relationship and have her act more sisterly in nature, and less sexual and leading him on. It was too obvious that it was the way that was set up. As for Pumira, I felt that the betrayal was sudden. Even if she felt hurt and betrayed by the group from the get-go, Lion-O proved that he was a good leader and a good person, time and again. She was around to witness him put his life on the line for his friends and her. So, her backstabbing him like that, so suddenly, and us learning why afterwards, made no sense to me. At the time, anyway. If she could get a redemption arc, she should get fully redeemed. Just so we don't have to deal with the catastrophe that would be Lion-O married to Wiley Kit, and to give Pumira a chance to truly shine as a Thundercat. That's my take on it.
@@redmage8719 She did not. Lion-O decided there was something between them. He never asked for confirmation. Every time Cheetara had anything to say to Lion-O, it had to do with bolstering his confidence and supporting his efforts to wield the SoO. It was never personal. If he was confused, he should have asked.
I loved the reboot and respected that it was its own thing based off the original. I watched all episodes that aired, despite Cartoon Networks disasterous marketing and lack of advertising episodes to be aired after taking a mid season break. I purchased all of the toys available in the uk for my son and we still own them today
I was in my early teens when the first iteration was out. I liked the new version so I don’t know what this video is talking about. I think he is somewhat off about what went wrong with it.
This reboot was brilliant, and my whole crew loved it. We loved the new story lines and other additions. It's a shame networks ditch great shows like this and keep boring, horrible shows instead.
That and pretending it was better than the original series when the characters in 2011 were so unlikeable. Think about how horrible Tygra was in 2011 or how bland Lion-o was or how Cheetara was literally just the objectified woman of the group for the boys to fight over. It was not a good series just cause it had decent animation.
@MyStringSnapped I would have to respectfully disagree. I liked the 2011 series more than I disliked it. I think it had some really good ideas that it just didn't capitalize on. To your point, Cheetara was criminally underused, but I did like how they fleshed out her backstory
@@Nightman221k I feel she played with Lion-O's feelings to make Tygra jealous I mean is she trying to make the brothers kill each other over her? And what would've happened if in a fit of rage & jealousy Tygra killed Lion-O over her Tygra would've had to live with the guilt for the rest of his life his adopted parents would've been ashamed of him & Wilykit would've called Cheetara out. No, Lion-O, Tygra aren't like that in the original it shouldn't have been like that in this new one.
I had grew up watching the original 1985 Thundercats back in the day and I still love it, even as an adult! ❤ I had recognized Will Fridle's voice as Lion-O 🦁 in the 2011 reboot because he voiced Batman Beyond & Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible!
I can’t say I agree with your take. The comments section alone has more praises than nay sayers. As a fan of the original. I think there was some potential for this series. They didn’t and shouldn’t have included those messy love triangles. I think most shows and movies do this a lot. We don’t need a love story for every single movie or show. I hope they get another reboot. I liked that they added new races and different types of sentient beings. There is a good base that can be used for a new reboot. A nice fusion of both iterations would work out nicely. They art style should stick to more realistic look. They need an updated look. Stick to fleeing a dying planet and crashing into third earth. Possibly go with a more sword in the stone thing instead of a succession. I think it should have that mystic/tech thing going. Mummra should remain that weird malevolent entity with powers being backed by those ancient spirits(the spirits should be explored more) Definitely need those races that were ago set the Thundercats in the first version to be the villains. While adding the new races or known races from first and second series. I think the crash would be a good starting point for all of them with each cat taking up a leadership role and eventually coming together to form the Thundercats. Jaga (Jah-Gah) staying alive this round as well as Lion-o, Tygra Cheetara(Chi-Tah-Rah), Panthro Wily-Kit, Wily-Kat, Lynx-O, Bengali, Pumyra.
I don't mind that in the new version that they made Lion-O & Tygra brothers what I hate is they made Tygra a dick & a jerk to Lion-O because their parents wanted an actual son. And that they made a love triangle between Cheetara, Lion-O & Tygra when in the original they were all friends why mess with that? In the comics where Cheetara & Tygra were married their kids had a physical combination of each of them there's no way they have a kid that's a white Bengal tiger.
I don’t think it’s about that though. It is not which was better. As this show was taking characters and giving a new take on them. Trying to introduce these characters to a new generation while getting older fans onboard. For me as an older fan. I liked the more interesting races on the show. I think it needed that extra season before you could say it was awful.
Based on the revelations, here is my own take on how Season 2 would unfold: 1. New Home 2. A Friend in Need 3. Misty Memories 4. A Heartbeat Away 5. The Soul Within the Spirit 6. Escape from the Maze of Baron Karnor 7. Beyond the Fog 8. The Depths 9. The Price of Power 10. Dark Ritual 11. Third Earth's Origins 12. Sacrifice 13. Lion-O's Choice 14. Return 15. Change 16. Attack of the Lunataks 17. Back to the Astral Plane 18. The Road to El Dara 19. Desert of Illusions 20. King of Thieves 21. Conquedor's Plot 22. The Wandering Samurai 23. Visitors Across Time 24. Prelude to the Great War 25. The Final Stand - Part 1 26. The Final Stand - Part 2
Thundercats 2011 was my childhood. I really love watching it as kid, alongside Sym Bionic Titan, Adventure Time, Regular Show, etc. Such a shame it got cancelled. Lots of things that were plan for a second season would've been interesting, such as a crossover with Silverhawks and Tigersharks ( As well as an origin story for Mon*star ), and the introduction of old characters like Hachiman, Mandora, Safari Joe, the Berserkers and Lunataks, etc ( Though I wonder if they going to portrayed them as humans or a animal hybrid? ).
None of those things were mentioned in the podcast I listened to about what the future episodes would reveal. No Mandora, Safari Joe and the rest. The closest thing to Safari Joe would have been the Conquistador in the Berbils episode. There were no humans on Third Earth.
I didn't know there was that much criticism of the show, everyone I know who has seen it says they loved it. I blame the network for cancelling it too soon, before it could earn the following that has so many of us watching video's about it more than 10 years later.
Marvelous is usually on point but missed the mark on this one...most fans enjoyed the series. You have to divorce yourself from the original and enjoy the story told that at the time of its end was never fully realized
ThunderCats and silverhawks definitely need an update not a reboot everything redrawn in 2011 reboot version but the whole storyline with minor tweaks stays the same from the 80s
This one still hurts sometimes. I thought it was an epic an great adaptation but what ahead of its times. Like maybe if it would have come out today or when streaming service were really booming iPhone would have lasted longer or been a success . Either way the the new comic and live action talk ( again ) Thundercats deserve better’
To be honest i really did not like the 2011 reboot. I was hoping that this show would have went the way of the he man early 2000s reboot. They did not change to much from the original series. They gave a more fuller backstory of that lore and characters from the original series. This show did none of that.I enjoyed the story . But my overall judgement. I just did not like it.
The writers seemed to prefer Tygra than Lion-O; Tygra was constantly one-uping Lion-O and Lion-O never seemed to mature and constantly came off as childish. Had they let Lion-O accept that he was to be alone as the king instead of letting jealousy controlling him after the time jump he would come back as the king they needed.
This was my favorite along with transformers and Gi joe oh wait voltron silver hawks and mask yes and tranzor z then came speed racer and also my very fav heman
I don’t really care if I’m an outlier here, I’m GLAD that this version got canceled. It had horrible characterization of all the Thundercats and the love triangle stank and the lore was monotonous. Give me the 80s series any day. Even Roar had a better grasp on homaging the original 80s cartoon with straight up adapting classic stories. It wasn’t good but it was better than the angsty and terrible 2011 show.
