The 2011 Thundercats series was the best iteration of the the thundercats, it had so much potential especially with the world building. It needs to be brought back.
Back in 1985, I was 11 years old, I used to go to 36th Street School in Los Angeles california... it was just 15 minutes away from my house. Every day I used to run home from school to catch Thundercats and voltron, those two cartoons are my favorite cartoons of all time, still till this day I get excited talking about those two cartoons LOL
@@NYCJoeBlack I watched some of it, I haven't finished it, I'm more of a fan of the classic, but keep in mind I haven't even watched all the episodes from the classic Voltron
@@bobbyschannel349 - I watched the Netflix’s Voltron originally when I bought the DVD/Blu ray, but I don’t think they released season’s 8-10 on disc. So, I only watched until season 7. Unlike either Thundercats reboot, I like how they stayed pretty true to the 80’s cartoon, but make changes/modifications that made sense.
How long did it take for everyone to realize that when the ThunderCat signal was used that it was really a giant red laser pointer to attract a bunch of cats...LOL
If we ever get a true live action Thundercats movie, here are my fan castings: Lion-O: Alan Ritchson Tigra: Henry Cavill Panthro: Micheal Jai White Cheetarah: Minka Kelly Jaugar: Liam Neeson Wiley Kit: Zendaya Wiley Kay: Tom Holland Snarf:Jim Carey (voice acting and mo-cap)
I'm white but I also always perceived Panthro as a black man, and thought it was cool that he was so obviously a black man and yet had none of the stock stereotypes. I mean, he's part strongman, part ninja, and part scientist / engineer --how do you even come up with a combination like that, let alone make it work so incredibly well? I can't think of another character like him, and and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who didn't think he was completely awesome.
I always just perceived panthro as an anthropomorphic panther. You associate Panthro with a black man, probably because of the psycho suggestion of 1) Panthers being primarily black, and 2) the association of the Black Panthers. But everyone always tries to bring race into anthropomorphic animals, when it's NOT NECESSARY. it doesn't matter what color the cats would be if they were human. They're cats. The only time it would matter is if there was an episode where the cat DNA was somehow untangled from their DNA, which would turn them into jello, not human. Anyway, not digging on you, its just a peeve on mine for people to try to bring race into a place where race doesn't matter. I read a review once that claimed the original show was racist because Panthro was "obviously the only 'N word' in the show." That absolutely killed me, to read. They're CATS
I was about 14 when I was watching Thundercats, and I always kinda thought Panthro was sposed to be Black also. I sort of assumed it was a way to make the show more appealing to a wider audience. Fun fact; panthers are actually just leopards or jaguars that have dark fur, if the sun hits them right, you can still see the spots.
@@user-mp5lm5sy6x so... The voice actor was a black man. Goliath from Gargoyles was also voiced by a black man... But he was STILL a gargoyle. Kratos was voiced by 2 black men. He's a SPARTAN. Iago, in Aladdin was voiced by a white Jewish guy. Was Iago a white Jewish guy? No. He was a bird. The point here, is the race of the actor doesn't matter, when the actor themselves aren't on the screen. The characters are NOT the same color as the actor behind them. They ARE characters. And Panthro is a damn CAT. Not a black man. The race of Panthro is CAT. Why insert racism in a place where it doesn't belong?
Overseas a buddy of mine bought 3 well known sword replicas. The Sword of Power from He-Man, Excalibur from King Aurhur and The Sword of Omens with the Eye of Thundera.👍🏾
Panthro was always my favorite Thundercat in all its iterations, and this is no different. The 2011 series gave a little more meat to all the Thundercats, so hopefully, Declan watched both the animated series in order to use the best elements of each show.
I always thought that Lion-O being someone with a stolen childhood (and effectively a child soldier in a grown body because of it) was potentially the most interesting part of his character. I really didn't like how the 2011 reboot just ignored that entire idea by turning him into a teenager instead.
THUNDER!THUNDER!THUNDER CATS HO!!! wonderful childhood glad we getting thunder cats again😏😏 yea Panthro is one us a brother you ain't changing my mind lol
I always thought Lion-O was a BIGGER Child simply because he is a bigger TYPE of Cat: A Lion! vs Whiley Kit and Kat who are probably based on House Cats, Panthro on a Panther, Tigra on a TIger etc...technically though Tigra should have be the biggest then.
i hope this becomes popular and goes far like the power ranger comics, imagine a new show based off this comic comes out in the future, that feel and look of the og cartoon but not just for selling toys but has an actual plot so to say
Is it because he is a panther and they tend to be black? Or is this just the vibe he gives off? Like he would be a black guy if he wasn’t a cat person? Last question also who cares if he is black?
Loved the video, subbed. Agreed on Declan's character writing! He's clearly laying groundwork for these characters to be fleshed out in their personalities and ideologies. One thing I'd love to see is how awkward Lion-O's interaction is now with the twins, with whom he undoubtedly roughhoused. Hopefully we see some of them figuring out how to relate to each other now. Also agree about the ties Mumm-Ra appears to now have with Thundera and the Sword of Omens, currently shattered. What's interesting to me is, he's aware of it (presumably more accurately aware of the Eye of Thundera) until then, so it is the Eye being 'awake' that he can sense, which makes sense. Lastly, I agree with you on appreciating Moss' choices in his Panthro design, it was great to see him move the character back in that direction after the whitewashing of 2011 Panthro, who was basically a character lift of Jet from Cowboy Bebop (among other crits I have). But I want to push back on the idea of Panthro being lowkey fake representation since representation is (1) not monolithic and (2) representation in fantastical characters is as important as grounded characters. Him being recognizably Black-coded is sufficient to have an impact and that's a great thing. I think fake representation is more like the caricatures that Michael Bay employed with Skids and Mudflap.
as a white dude i always thought of Panthro as black myself. he was my favorite make character in the series. wise teacher with a bit of years on him. great character and a character type that is usually a favorite of mine. i am still waiting for a live action Tcats movie.
Although I am happy to see Thundercats get some comic love , I wish one day we get a spinoff series based on the 2011 series. That show was ahead of its time and I feel there was a lot of open ended themes waiting to be looked at . If you listen to the podcast where the creators talk about it. I swear it sounds amazing.
I remember watching the OG Thundercats on TV (and if you missed an episode you better hope there's a rerun in the future!) and it _always_ bothered me that the writers forgot that Lion-O was a kid in an adult's body and I used to cringe anytime they had even a hint of flirtation with any of the adult women.
I surprisingly loved the 2011 version. I grew up on the original and was skeptical when I heard about it. I wish they’d bring it back, very good storytelling.
I never realized Lion-o was supposed to be a kid. That should make for some weird interactions with Wily Kit and Wily Kat, as they used to all be same age friends and now he is adult in appearance.
I remember when sword of omens fought excalibur flying around on their own. And excalibur stabbed himself in sword of omens eye. I forgot what happen next.. i just know excalibur fought sword of omens..
I loved the Thundercats.....in hindsight they were rather elitist. The "mutants" had Representatives from a diverse groups. The thundercats were cats and cats only. Lol
One thing about Liono's age when he comes out of the Pod if the Pod malfunctioned and he aged so many years he shouldn't have come out as a muscle man who is lived an active life and exercised he should have come out as a more wasted person because he wouldn't have been eating all that time and his growth would have been fed on by the muscle mass he already had
Slithe is much more heavily muscled than Lion-O and his weapon is basically a meat cleaver. Something was gonna give in that assault. Maybe Mumm-Ra and Jaga's spirit are somehow bound in proximity and they're gonna spend the next few years just &!$@in' with each other.
Well I hope they don’t stray away too much from the original, otherwise it will be like He-Man. So many different origins and stories and one of them, he shared his power with others. Oh and they forgotten She-Ra. So I hope this remake is good, not a disappointment.
You are wrong. Mummra couldn’t use the sword in the original show either. There were episodes where he tried but the sword went crazy. It was clearly stated the sword couldn’t be used for evil
I always thought Lion-O's rapid aging had nothing to do with the pod. The sword of omens is what caused it. When the flagship is attacked, Lion-O activates the sword and fights off the Mutants(Sligh?). This scene was always always amazing to me as a kid because of the music and the build-up to the first time the sword goes to full power. There's a short moment where Lion-O can't lift the sword until the eye opens and powers up. The sword powering up then started Lion-O's aging process. The pod couldn't stop his aging up because the eye of Thundera was causing Lion-O to grow more powerful to what the Lord of the Thundercats would need to be. It just made sense. As a kid I never really questioned it, magic sword doing magic sword things. Meanwhile as an adult, sometime around the time the 2011/relaunch came out I watched the Original movie... and wondered why the Mutants never aged at all. Did they have their own suspended animation, or are the Thundercats beating up on 100 year old mutants grandpas?
And yes, it's one of those things where the cover is very nice but the rest of the book has terrible artwork and every time they re-boot old valuable ideas they constantly screw it up, im already disappointed but not surprised 👈🤔👈
I wonder how exactly would the Thundercats be able to truly defeat Mumm-Ra who is immortal and cannot be killed where Lion-O and the other Thundercats are mortal and will eventually die of old age. Mumm-Ra lives on and on 🤔
