THUNDERSTORM motorcycle camping | Absolute disaster!

Oh kids! Rule number one: You're in the wrong tent if the floor looks like a $2.00 nylon tarp. Rule number two: there are these awesome spray bottles that contain waterproofing liquid. Rule number three: These experiences build character. I was smiling while watching the storm portion. Reminded me of a similar experience.

This reminds me of a trip I did with one of my friends. We packed our tent, sleeping bags and alcohol. The difference was that we made friends with the family next to us and they fed us, dried our clothes and let us sit around their fire for the weekend. I remember and talk more about this trip than other trips we have done. In time I am sure you both will look back and laugh about this experience. cheers Dave

My brother woke up to water in his tent at Sturgis this year. When we left he gave the tent to a couple of kids who were just sleeping on the ground. You're going to love being in the van in weather.

The last tent I had I used a few cans of camp dry. You still spent time together and made memories.

I would say you've experienced the worst camping ever but, then, there was no tornado so you haven't experience the worst. Glad you survived your ordeal and, yeah, get a new tent (a GOOD tent), don't buy a Wall Mart tent (see 2 Wheels, Big Life a few episodes back). You guys are great. Oh, you said you're in Lincoln, I've been through there and have a T-shirt from the HD shop. A few years back when my son was in the Navy, I helped him move from South Carolina to north of our home and we passed through Lincoln on the way. Stay safe, you 2. Super cool video reminds me of my early days of motorcycle camping. I am now on my fifth Harley Davidson ultra classic 2018. I have camped all over America by myself. Just a couple tips for you guys to make your life easier out there. Number one. Bring a small can of lighter fluid with you start those fires. Number two. Buy a cheap battery powered mattress pump from Walmart to pump those mattresses up. Number three. BUy two plastic tarps one to put down before you set up your tent as a ground mat, and the second tarp to completely cover your tent. You’ll never get wet again. Just some of the tips that I use on the open road, and I still have plenty of luggage space left.

Bryan & Heather, now you have me thinking about camping. Much better even in bad weather than most hotel rooms I've stayed in. We use to have a place close to Home we'd go to. same thing happened to me a month ago, used a tent i hadnt used in 10 years... my 6 year old daughter and I weathered the storm (not even in the forecast), luckily i brought a spare tent i picked up on clearance for $25 (found out it was a $160 tent).. threw the old one away and put up the new one, stayed dry the next night and enjoyed the rest of the weekend. Wasnt fun at the time , but looking back later the next day and just had to laugh !!! memories made !

Rude people running noisy electricity!! Inverter is way to go and never tent camp if it’s supposed to rain 🤔🤦‍♂️. Loved you show!!

When I go motorcycle camping, I have a backpacking style tent with a full rainfly, and a ground cloth under it. Normal car camping tents just don't have the same waterproofing. It looks like quite the experience!

So funny, my wife and I went camping down by Topeka on Saturday night and kind of had the same thing happen. We threw our tent away too. Jami said that's exactly what happened to us. But like a bad RU-vidr we didn't film during all that.

So I just found you guys. This is my first viewing and you guys remind me of my wife and I when we first started moto camping years ago.♥️ If you’re going to tent camp. Get a double Queen air mattress from Walmart (it fits in a 4 person tent) Also get a nylon tarp From Home Depot for the tent . It’s keeps you dry . Or just tow a camper and you’ll be fine . Looking forward to catching up on all your old videos 👍

A little food for thought. I've done a lot of camping over the years. Ya need a ground cloth( cheap wally world tarp) for under the tent. Slightly smaller than the tent base. Also another rain fly over the tent, a couple of extra poles for the front door gives you a little more room outside. I usually park my scooter under that, keeps saddle dry. I hate a wet ass. Y'all stay safe

Great video. Glad to see you getting out on the bike again. I've found most tents leak some on a hard rain like that. I have started carrying a small cheap tarp to put on top for expected storms.

Buy a large tarp, at least twice that footprint of your tent. Bungee it between trees or use stakes and poles to suspend it over your tent. You will stay dry.

My wife and I use a Kelty Dirt Motel 3 person tent. We've been very happy with it.

Love the video. I purchased new tent but haven’t tried it yet. Many years ago I camped in rain. Tent leaked as well No fun.

I went to K-River June 2021 it rained for 2 1/2 days out of the 4 we were there I just bought a tent it leaked like crazy it didn’t make it home either. Had a blast though. Love the content you guys do can’t wait to see van done catch you on the road sometime safe travels.

Yeah, the rain sucks. Rained on many times Moto-camping. Once , on a 15 day trip on the Blue Ridge Pkwy it rained 12 of the days. Practically lived in rain suit. It happens!

No Tarp to cover the tent with ? Just be careful of all the mosquitoes and black flies that show up wanting to visit your warm tent - It was in 1969, I was 15 or 16 on a bicycle trip, arriving at Assateague's island in the pitch dark, in a thunder storm with lighting as the only light available. The rest of the AYH team had gotten there earlier and set up tents. In the corner of my eye, with one bolt of lighting I saw the tents next to some dunes. I joined some friends. Inside, I watched the damn flies try to get us all night long thru the screen. I actually miss camping in many ways, When our kids were young, I loved it. But my wife , my Pillion, did all the work. She's not in to camping for a long time since. Our second does not even camp anymore, but rents a cabin. I hope we do to, maybe next season. We'd probably not go to far, as happy to have my bike get us safely home. I took her camping years ago too. Now days, being over 40 she is sometimes fussy. I remember being rained out many times when as a kid and in my twenties. In facts onetime, I took my cousin camping in the dead of winter when I was 19. We ended up at the wrong campsite, which was closed, and loaded with snow. We used potato chips to dry and heat the wood - Thanks for the reminder -

Just wanted to let you guys know that my wife and I look forward to all of your videos. Although we are old enough to be your parents (and maybe a little more). I am hoping to get my RG to the point of being more comfortable for long distance traveling and heading east toward where you guys are. I just have to modify it a little more so it is less than a drag racer and more of a "touring" bike. BTW we both used to do camping like you guys when we were younger, but that was last century.....hotels now.

One time our tent collapsed on top of us we both started laughing and said the hell with it see you in the morning and it was a severe thunderstorm we had as well. But was even more funny we got so tangled up in the tent on top of us I basically took a knife and we cut our way out. We must have been rolling around in the very little sleep we did get we were like a human burrito.

Almost forgot. The best place to buy all the things you need to Camp off road backpack camping stores, or stores similar to that. Enjoy life to the fullest while you’re both still young, because it gets a little harder as you get older.

That's a rough night, nothing worse than a leaky tent except a leaky tent when your motorcycle camping.

They make a spray on water proofing for nylon tents. You need to redo it every so often as the stuff on the cloth breaks down.

The few times we went tent camping, we took a tarp that was bigger than the tent. Definitely helps.

I spent 20 years in the Army National Guard, I learned really early. Buy an Army cot to get you off the ground.

It’s the difficult things on a trip that you always remember. I have slept in a raging thunderstorm in Yellowstone, sat on the side of the road in Hulett, WY in the middle of a hail storm with no where’s to hide. Riding in sleet on the road to sun at Glacier National Park. Difficult at the time but great memories!! Enjoy them all.

Ahh the memories... I got caught in a thunderstorm and my tent collapsed and leaked. In the morning there was 6" of water in the low corner of the tent. Fortunately I carry trash bags and bagged everything before things got too wet. Note to self - don't buy cheap (Ozark Trails) tents EVER again.

Take a quality tarp and learn to properly hang it. Put your tent under it and even a fairly cheap tent can stand up to a down pour when there’s not water hitting it. Prussic, bowline, and truckers hitch are all you need to know.

Dryer lint works well as fire starter.
