here again after last night’s Signals V2 livestream show. they opened with this song and it was absolutely feral. thursday ruled back then, they rule now, and they always will. this year will be better than the last. 🖤🤘
damn. this is one of the most emotionally intense songs i've ever fucking heard. if you don't like posthardcore you at least have to appreciate thursday
I just want to say, there was a teenager wearing noise-reducing ear covers at the Thursday show last night at Starland Ballroom, to whom I introduced myself with a 🖖 and as a person on the Spectrum who forgot how loud concerts were but was happy he came, and that I enjoyed the line in Cursive's "Big Bang" ("Where gonna need an expla-naTION, for RATIONAL THOUGHT!") and I really hope I didn't overwhelm him.
This song AND video is one of the few masterpieces the 2000s offered. They always get thrown under the “emo” genre but this band was so much more. They were alt, post hardcore, punk, emo and all of the rock sound at the time but pushing boundaries. I hate they always got put in that emo corner especially during this era. They really changed the game and paved way for bands like “Drug Church” and many other bands that’s just combined genres. Thursday always makes me think if Billy Corgan and early SP fused with Refused.
People literally label all of our music from the 2000s as emo and it kind of pisses me off. Most of it is post hardcore if anything. To me actual emo is really pussified music.
@@bigrig. I mean if we are getting technical the original "Emo" band wave in the 90s were solid imo. Then the term got thrown around to what it is today for bands like MCR and Fall Out Boy, etc. Those bands are fine and all but I wouldn't have considered them emo till that word was getting tossed around for any bands like that at the time. People call Green Day or like Blink 182 these days which is strange af to me
No this is real post-hardcore at its best, almost up there with at the drive-in. There was so much terrible emo music from 2000-2006 that thursday kind of got (when the people you love) lost in the shuffle but they are one of the few that actually has substance to it besides just WAHHH WAHH SCREAM SCREAM MY GIRLFRIEND BROKE UP WITH ME WAAAAAH HEAVY POWER CHORD
This song was so sick, the closest to hardcore they got. So happy to see Geoff doing well with United Nations. It's the direction I was hoping he would take.
This and that envy split. Thursday taking cues from Envy was straight up the best thing Ive ever heard. And then Envy did that song with the the chorus riff mirroring Geoffs vocal melody in running from the rain. Seeing your favourite bands collaborate and make nods to each other is so neat.
I remember watching IMF (international music feed) on cable TV and just watching music videos all day when I was like 13. That's when I discovered Thursday, along with all the other bands that eventually shaped my music taste. Thank you IMF. 🤘🏼
Back when he was touring for this album I was at a show he played at and he said this song is about when they were on a plane and they thought they were going to die.
"At This Velocity" We were safe, now we're paralyzed Suspended in flight At this speed it makes no difference Where I start and where you end Or if you sit in an emergency aisle We could be dead, complete the equation Our names are X and N We have no value in these calculations We're placed on a plane pointed straight down Traveling at five hundred feet per second Five thousand feet from the ground How long will it take us to hit? How fast till we start the disintegration? No time left - just keep moving No time left - just keep moving How long will it take us to hit? How fast till we start the disintegration? We could be safe here, forever Falling in the clean blue air Somewhere between the sun that gives us light And the ground that puts it out We'll kneel in the aisle, Press our hands together Close our eyes and speak these words So softly to the black box And it goes: "Mother, father can you hear this? I want to thank you for all the sweetness but I'm not coming home, we're never coming home."
i saw them with saves the day in 2001 and they made a big in-packed on me and music for there time ! Thursday is my favorite day bc of them , and bc its my day off !
cross out the eyes is best, so happy to see they reunited and I get to see them in Chicago! I saw gnr last year and Thursday this year?, I'm good to die now son!
I'm black as night and I've been listening to Thursday since the early 2000's.I'm 20 almost 21 and I've listened to everything from The Offspring,Auto-Pilot Off,Thursday,Finch, AFI, Haste the Day... but I do agree with black people and the word emo,I've been called Emo by my own black friends...but yeah fuck the word Emo...this is just good music.
@ibanezmetalman that's awesome. i started listening to Thursday and RA when i was 12 (4 years ago) too and Thursday is still one of my favorite bands now (and A City By The Light Divived my favorite album)
GENRE IS A F*CKING CAGE. We can argue all day about music formats but Thursday is always the best. Way better, more real, meaningful, good to hear than those macho bullsh*t/redundant breakdowns.
@drunkenmunkistyle Lucky man. I'm not a huge fan of Thrice but I love Coheed. I've seen them but only at a festival. And needles to say i'm a huge thursday fan
You're half-right but off the mark by about 10 years. "Emo" was used in the mid to late 80's and was first applied to bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace.
i had a dream last night that i was sitting on top of this very high-standing metal-frame tower and it swayed a lot like if i stood up, i'd make it lean because of how flexible the thing was, and i could see through the metal-frame floor just how high i was. i'v never been so scarred in a dream. might i share
Anyone looking for rare Thursday tracks or B-Sides hit me up I'd love to share some of these. I probably have the most complete collection anyone has ever had. Stay True!
+NeuroCalamity If you could hook me up with "Cross Out The Eyes" (Live at The Grove), "Steps Ascending" (Live at The Grove), "How Long Is The Night?" (Live at The Grove), the demo for "Concealer", and the demo for "Telegraph Avenue Kiss" that would be so rad! :)
okay we were safe, now we're paralyzed suspended in flight at this speed it makes no difference where i start and where i end or if we're sitting in an emergency aisle we could be dead, complete the equation our names are x and n we have no value in these calculations placed on a plane, pointed straight down traveling at 500 feet per second 5000 feet from the ground how long will it take us to hit how fast will we start the disintegration don't die now, just keep moving don't die now, just keep moving how long will it take us to hit how fast will we start the disintegration we could be safe here forever floating in the clean blue air somewhere between the sun that gives us light and the ground that puts it out and we'll kneel in the aisles press our hands together and close our eyes speak these words so softly to the black box, and it goes: mother, father can you hear this? i want to thank you for all of your sweetness i'm not coming home, i'm never coming home
literally, people still argue over genres? lol, you are either in hs or have nothing better to do. its good music, stop hurting yourselves trying to define it.,
