This song is a masterpiece because everything about it fits both Thursday and the genre. If you actually pay attention to Geoff's vocals closely, in a variety of songs, you'll find he's actually quite a talented singer. Personally, being a long time Thursday fan, his voice is a breath of fresh air compared to the same old melodies you hear today
geoff is no way a "good" singer , but he is the perfect singer for this bands , just like the used, dead kennedy's its more about the tones and message then being on key and perfect leave that to pop singers
I beg to differ sir. Geoff has expressed his vocal expertise on many songs that I would be happy to point you to. Admittedly his voice is one that takes some getting used to if you are a newcomer to Thursday. However, once you get a feel for his range/style, he is in a league of his own.
I just saw them live. Geoff delivers a stellar performance and captures the sound of the record perfectly. He may not fit the classic sense of what society/people think a "good singer" is but he is definitely consistent and very talented. Lots of heart and what seems like imperfection on record is executed perfectly live. Totally recreated. I have a new found respect for the guy. And as for the "untrained ears" comment. It's OBVIOUS to point out what you're pointing out. It's a lot harder and takes a lot more experience to differentiate and uncover what is truly above average and what is below. There are so many factors and variables. Just because he doesn't fit your criteria doesn't dub the ears of someone who enjoys Geoff as "untrained"
Kevin Li I'm a music major and I still believe he is an amazing singer. Definitely not in the classical sense, but as a normal performer he is above par. I saw Thursday last Tuesday and they were even better live then recorded. The man is a true performer, something a trained or untrained ear can pick up on.
shoutout to the bass guitar and the keys for making this song sound so miserable (and so good). also nominated for best song/video combination. the video perfectly encapsulates the misery in this song
WOW my God, WOW just. This hits me so hard lyrically and this video is so well-done! Just so good and I really only listened to Thursday's first two records for all these years! This song gets me high on life! Thank you Thursday
Any band that can tell a simple story so powerfully deserves recognition for that alone. THIS is a masterpiece in its genre, love it or hate it, it did what it set out to do and did it very well. 22k views is merely a sad commentary on how shitty our music tastes as a whole has become.
I see a lot of complaint in the comments about a lack of melody, and harmony in the vocals...I think that's the point. There are 2 singers, 1 in the first verse, 2 in the second both with two equally discordant sections. This song is meant to sound....chaotic so it makes sense that the vocal melody (and yes there is one...actually several) is slightly off kilter. To say Geoff can't create a melody is ignorant of, not only the intentions of this song, but their music in general in which Geoff crafts some very unique and effective vocals. This is not a band for people who like mainstream music really. They purposefully set out to not make "hooks" and "singles" but to write a song that makes sense artistically, not economically. If you don't like it, maybe you're just too used to cookie cutter bullshit.
@@gimmegamma4849 hella and piglet have absolutely nothing to do with Thursday. I'd go as far as to say math rock like that is pretty ridiculous like "oh look how tricky I can be". I had years ago enjoyed those bands but tastes have changed.
@@Blindside23 i simply said if you wanted non mainstream music then try them. i can find pockets with both hella and piglet so i've always been able to follow, piglet especially. imo, hella has nothing to do with piglet musically. piglet is way more commercial in sound and easier to follow. why did you choose to respond to a two year old comment anyway???
I saw Thursday last night for the first time and holy crap man it was so good I’ve known about them since I was like 12 and liked them but know that I’m older I feel like I can really appreciate them more and man that show was awesome
All these ppl talking about books: This song hits harder when your family member ruined your whole childhood with his h addiction and the lyrics were a daily occurrence in your childhood home
I always think of Cursive and Thursday synchronously although they definitely are way different than each other. I think older cursive and older thursday are much more alike than say this song and "mama im swollen" or another record of the same era
An absolute perfect portrait of my brother. There's no way I could have said this better myself. I played this for him the last day I saw him. he cursed me out and walked away. I haven't seen him since and I'm a better person for it.
haters gonna hate. this music is intense, complicated, intricate, insanely emotional and hard to digest, but it speaks to some people, BRO. green day's for sure one of the biggest sellouts in music history. and least geoff rickley channels his emotions into something unique & creative and not whiny little bicth-fits against i-heart radio.
