wwtrek.com ➤ If you watch our Everest Base Camp Trek series, you’ll notice a lot of colorful “prayer flags.” Originating within the Buddhist traditions in Tibet and Nepal, these flags are a cultural cornerstone for the Nepalese people. You will see these flags everywhere from the rooftops in Kathmandu, to the suspension bridges we trek across in the Khumbu Valley, all the way up to Everest Base Camp itself. Watch this video to learn a little bit more information behind the tradition!

We are not poor at all. No one dies out of hunger here. Nature provides us and we protect nature in return.

Much respect to Nepal and its beauty and I acknowledge how wealth has been defined by certain western and eastern cultures and does not include the intangible value of culture and tradition etc...but Fact is Nepal is very poor, just because people arnt starving to death, as the user comments, is not the only qualifier for being a poor country. Like my next example or not: Just last year we and some charity church groups sent power tools, volunteers and building materials there to try to help farmers in Nepal. Regardless of that, infrastructure, technology and medicine is severely lacking. And really at the risk of the being scolded by you tube users, who may or may not be able to see all variables, you say you protect nature and it provides, I argue that is your fallacy and naive perpective. Nepal outpaces Asia and the world in deforestation percentage averages, not quite double world rates, but nearly. Just like in the Amazon basin, enjoy the bounty and wealth nature has always provided, but don't turn your blind eye to it, as there won't be much left soon besides above treeline rocks and boulders at the rate Nepal is clearing land. Seriously all, if you want to see scary numbers check out Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Indonesian, Nigerian Madagascar forest destruction numbers, then pray to whatever God you think will help the cancer of humanity... sorry but seriously...bunch of people thumbs upping a non critically thought out "feel good" line of rhetoric shows the real trouble we are all in and for peats sake wear a condom, we have enough people in this world. Trees are the answer this Non-Delusion Non Liberal believes with all his heart. Now excuse me I need to take the Supercharged V8 Pickup Truck to whole foods and pretend I'm doing my part. Want to see a wealthy country or place doing something about its forest (or atleast pretending to as endless subdivisions clear virgin ground and riparian corridors are decimated for strip malls and a few acres get replanted elsewhere..sigh..) check out the western world dude where oil wells and technology blow money all over the region, creating me and all these thumbs uppers with the time and resources to waste on writing long comments that change nothing. Pats self on back, that was a fair Rip on the seemingly clueless internet users of the world. What did you go to the town square to search for internet connectivity to post your unfactual morally superior rhetoric? Lol this A-hole cracks himself up.

Hi. I ordered a singing bowl and it came with prayer flags. I have no intention of using them, how do I respectfully get rid of them? Somebody told me to burn them but that sounds disrespectful. Should I ? And if I do, is there something I should say while doing so?
@sea2sherpa
@sea2sherpa 2 года назад
Thanking for respecting our spritual belief.. as for how to dispose them. It's a practice and belief as to why it is always burned rather than throwing away carelessly anywhere. It is believed that while burning them the mantras written on them will mix with air and reaches the dieties spreading peace and prosperity in the world. But on the downside of this practice since all the prayer flags are made of nylon ropes and polyester fabric these days , burning them will add environmental pollution.

Just offer it to someone else if you don’t want them. Pretty sure plenty of people who like Buddhism, love prayer flags. No don’t burn them. Hang it in the garden or your window if you like, they bring you blessings.
@nick.u182
@nick.u182 Год назад
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 you don't need to believe in it to hang it. I am culturally aware of Tibetan and Nepali culture to know they hold it in high regards. Anyone can use it how they like.

They follow different type of Buddhism, in Nepal and Tibet it is mostly Tibetan Buddhism with a influence from Tibetan Bon religion. In Sri Lanka it is Theravada form of Buddhism, that is why different style and clothing too.

@@tenzinjamyanggg7096 Nepal even though has majority Hindu, Buddhism is intermixed and there is no distinction between the two. Nepali Hindus visit Buddhist shrines everyday, and many monasteries/stupas are next to Hindu Temples. Exception of Tibetan Buddhism in some places due to seclusion like Mustang, Dolpa, there is no infighting in Nepal like some other countries over the beliefs. The survey shows less Buddhist for this reason, there is no distinction between the two groups.
