trachenburg I saw it. It's actually up on youtube right now. That was some disgusting special effects!! I liked 'Carlton's' first encounter with the tick. The sound is disgusting in itself and there're just enough cuts to the tick and flesh wound. So alot was filled in by my mind. The running effect was also quite creepy. I'll definitely be watching this again sometime.

As a pre-teen in the late 90s, my cousins and I found this movie in my parents' cache of VHS tapes. Someone in my family cared enough to record it from a cable movie channel, and I thank them every day. Though we only watched it a handful of times back then, we remember it very well and still bring it up to each other every so often. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

I agree with you, the creature effects in this movie are phenomenal. All the CGI nowadays doesn't hold a candle to physical creature models and animatronics.
@GoodBadFlicks
@GoodBadFlicks 9 лет назад
Andreazor CGI is great for masking things and some stuff is very impressive but overall, you can still tell when something is CGI. They just haven't perfected it yet and are way overusing it.

GoodBadFlicks The one film that I think got the closest (though still inferior) to gross practical effects using CG was Peter Jackson's King Kong, in that bug attack scene. The gross, scary felling was there, a bit, but nowhere near as intense as that giant Tick in the end, or the belly mouth scene in the Thing (1982).
@YamiKisara
@YamiKisara 4 года назад
@@GoodBadFlicks to be fair the animators are well capable of making completely realistic CGI, they just usually aren't given enough time to process it, because Hollywood sucks like that. When you say you can generally tell when something's CGI (even the few years back you wrote this comment), it's only because it's something we couldn't really film (like dinosaurs or Ironman's suit or giant ticks). Nowadays whole landscapes are made via CGI and you can't tell the difference to a real one, as long as it's a city or rainforest or whatever. As for animals, well, cartoons turned into CGI movies will obviously look fake.
@larryverner

Buddy, hate to tell you, but when I was ten I had one like that at the back of my head during a school trip. They can grow 100x their original size. I didn't notice it because of where it was, until I felt a weird pimple (and first wanted to pinch it), then asked some roommates to check and they freaked out. Moments later a teacher extracted it and we flushed it down a toilet. Normally people find them much sooner, so I guess it's kind of surprising to see one fully blown out. Either way it's a nasty little creature!

Again, I feel like I need to attack the arachnid biology of this movie: -Ticks are explicitly defined as "ectoparasites", meaning they stay on the outside of their host. They can burrow their jaws into prey, but not their whole bodies, nor would that help them in any way, because... -When ticks parasitise an animal, they feed off it for days, consuming many times their original body weight in blood, and becoming so bloated they have a hard time walking thereafter. A tick that burrowed into a host and then finished feeding would be unable to get back out, effectively dooming itself. Especially these giant ticks, because they'd consume enough blood to kill their host by exsanguination. -Ticks don't have two separate fangs like spiders - they have a single tube-like proboscis, just like mosquitoes, and two extra parts they used to cement themselves to their prey. -Ticks also don't have a pupal/"pod" stage in their life cycle - eggs are laid individually, hatcy into a nymphal stage, and take on their adult form as they moult.
