I think NatiDreddd should feature on your next album! We have tickets for your tour and her and I are coming to see you in Ayr when you reschedule! Get her on the stage for a tune!!!!
Me and several Scottish friends went to Latvia to teach kids at a music camp along with many other internationals. To represent Scotland we played/sang this and taught the Latvians to play it. We absolutely enjoyed it and it was a great time. As a result I oddly associate this song with Latvia as well as my home country of Scotland. Which is what makes this song extra special for me
They played this song near the end of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo when I was in Scotland 2 weeks ago. It was amazing and so moving, that I'm glad I found this video and can relive the energy of such an amazing and awe-inspiring gathering at Edinburgh Castle.🎉
There are stories I’ve heard told, of an unfamiliar road Where the evening sun hangs gold in the skyline In a quiet unknown town, there is solace to be found In the unforsaken hours of the twilight There’s a girl and I can see her far away from this frontier [Chorus] ‘Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world On an evening in July ‘neath the red Lochaber sky She smiled and closed her eyes on my shoulder Now I’m a million miles from home, from the girl I call my own And I’m dreaming all alone just to hold her As I look into the water, I see her standing at the altar [Chorus] And I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world Nail your colours to the mast, in the footsteps of the past And when you breathe your last, life’s returning For when the sun sets on the years, all the miles and all the tears A world away from here, it’s the morning In my mind I see her smile, where the tide lines grace the isle [Chorus] ‘Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world ‘Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world [Outro] ‘Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl Where the skies reach out for miles I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides On the far side of the world
Thank you for putting these words to paper "as the saying goes". I was dying to know what they were after the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I love the song. And the show. Wow, those pipes.
I'm from the US and discovered them on a random playlist. Needless to say we need to pay more attention to music coming out of Scotland and I've been binging this album like crazy.
KAT here are a few Scottish bands that are a wee bit different from the run of the mill you usually get on radio etc. they are worth listening to the musicianship is superb and utilises instruments that are not very commonly used in most cases .Try these bands that are all here on RU-vid.....RURA....ELEPHANT SESSIONS....... SKERRYVORE....THE PAUL McKENNA BAND.......KINNARIS QUINTET...... BREABACH.. .....ROSS AINSLIE . These names will open up a whole Pandoras Box of music from themselves and other Scots too. At this very moment I'm listening to Duncan Chisholm playing Dizzy Blue. Hope you find a few new sounds from here .
A friend and I travel from the States to Three Music festival. Had hoped to see them there, but at least we met Skipinnish and seen Skerryvore perform at home..
Last year I made a roadtrip through Scotland with my girlfriend. This song was often played on the radio and reminds me of the good times. Greetings from Germany.
Heard on Skye FM I'm English and well traveled and Scotland is my favourite place and the Hebrides my favourite part, this place has a magic feel about it I have never experienced anywhere else. I want to live here forever.
I just left Scotland after six years of living there in order to travel and study but this just makes me miss Scotland so much. Forever my favourite country, i'm sure.
I want to dance with Highland man where the skys reach out for miles... it happened, we danced on ceilidhs in Munich, then he swept me of to England and we spent lots of times in Scotland... I love my highlander!
Not necessarily 100% accurate, but.......; There are stories I’ve heard told, of an unfamiliar road. Where the evening sun hangs gold in the skyline. In a quiet unknown town, there is solace to be found In the unforsaken hours of the twilight There’s a girl and I can see her far away from this frontier CHORUS: ‘Cos I wanna dance with a Highland girl, Where the skies reach out for miles. I wanna feel the breeze of the Hebrides, On the far side of the world, On an evening in July ‘neath the red Lochaber sky, She smiled and closed her eyes on my shoulder. Now I’m a million miles from home, from the girl I call my own, And I’m dreaming all alone just to hold her. As I look into the water, I see her standing at the altar. Nail your colours to the mast, in the footsteps of the past, And when you breathe your last, life’s returning. For when the sun sets on the years, all the miles and all the tears, A world away from here, it’s the morning. In my mind I see her smile, where the tide lines grace the isle.
I have to listen to this song every so often because on a bus tour of the Highlands, our driver had a playlist of Scottish artists and I just remember how happy this song sounded and it always takes me back to visiting the Highlands, which I hope to do again someday soon.
"Coz awannah dance with a Highland gorrl, where the skies reach eout fer miles Awannah feel the bureeze o'the Hebrerdees on the far side of the worrld"
When Covid kicked in here in the UK I had just got back from the NC500 in Scotland, I drove all the way to Portsmouth for 4 days and was sent home for lockdown I lost my job, my house everything I'd worked on since I was 18, but the night we were fired a colleague played this song and me and him listened to your music all evening. I've finally got a home and enough work to keep me going I just wanted to say thank you! This song in particular brought me into a good mood and made me think of better times when it got rough
I'm so happy your in a good place .same thing happened to me and it was really tough , I'm just discovering this band as we are going to towersey festival for the first time in August and it said they are performing so looked them up. Feels so nice to have that behind us and in enjoying life ❤
Natidreddd led to me finding this video initially because there was no way in hell I was gonna listen to a song as pretty and beautiful as that and not look further into it. Gorgeous song.

When music, place and people are all connected, life becomes celebrated and remembered in a very special and unique way, the past, present and future meet in a musical moment. This song, these lyrics are such a prime example of this. Thank you TL. Looking forward to see you in Manchester in November!
I just recently adopted a dog who is half Scottish deerhound, half cairn terrier (two highland breeds) and now every time I listen to this song instead of saying highland girl, I always say highland dog. I know I’m lame but he’s my baby lol
What a fantastic song I love the Highlands and this song makes me feel brilliant thanks I'm not in the Highlands at the moment but my heart is there with her❤
