Using the USB-C does indeed work fine for firmware updates. Also, check menu items 48 (and 52, 53, and 54, for even more spicyness) and it on the radio. The AM receive band is turned off by default (menu 48), and 52-54 allow you to transmit out of band on 220, 300, and 500 MHz if you want.

@@HelloNotMe9999I did a binary compare of all 3 versions of the firmware file. They are identical, as are all of the “IAP_setup” executables. The three programming software setup executables are different from one another, but only in as much as the contents the apply to the radio’s memories. The “unlocked” setup applies nothing, the memories are left blank. The “GMRS” setup populates the memory channels with GMRS frequencies, and the “ham” setup populates them with repeaters that for most people will be useless (since they are geographically localized).

Thanks for putting this video together. I just upgraded my two TD-H3's that I received a few days ago. I decided to try using a Baofeng Kenwood cable, part number PL2303, and it worked fine on both units and didn't require any additional driver install on Windows 10 Pro. Just had to go to Device Manager to find out which Com Port it was on.

I have found that the squelch tail issue is not resolved. It has “fixed” something with the tail when you transmit from your radio to a repeater, probably something to do with the tones used for closing squelch? However, when monitoring someone else’s traffic on repeaters, you’ll notice that we still get the loud squelch when it closes. Menu option 40 should probably be the option we are messing with to find if it’s fixed or not. I believe menu option 30 would be for simplex.
@djmambito2

they probably cant fix it cause it is a hardware problem ... in addition those tid-engineers suck ...they clearly dont understand english nor do they understand the real squelch problem.

I've made 1 contact in 3 years on FM , and for the life of me I can't understand why when most CBers these days are running HAM rigs . As far as saving it, it hasn't gone anywhere . Still have the superbowl on ch 6 . Ch's 14 , 16 and 28 am have become a mini-bowl with a lot of loud stations but nothing near the wattage on ch 6 . 38 LSB is always packed with DX . 37 LSB has been good for Aussie DXing in the afternoon and the mid to upper part of the 27 mhz range has been great for early morning DXing to Europe

18Mhz was already available on v240401. Also, I don't know when this bug was introduced to the radio, but try it... Go to any of the Memories, can be Memory 01, check the frequency, go to squelch and set it to one, now the frequency on Memory 01 has changed, either by the amount of your step or by 2.5Khz. Also tail is still not fixed, and the actual menu 40 does nothing.

I really wanted this radio, I really wanted to like this radio but, I ordered one with a second battery that promptly shorted out, once I charged it. dead... day number two, ( after a few good QSO's) I noticed no power output - zero... after charging it on its cradle .... I'm wondering if the stun/kill feature somehow engaged ? really weird behavior . my good old UV5R is about 12 years old, and it has never had any issues- ever , and it's so worn out that the keys are worn out- it has been everywhere with me. so this whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know if this is a CHIRP issue or a stun/kill (somehow) or charging issue? I'm going to try flashing the firmware - hoping that it solves the TX issues? friends say - so what it's a $30 radio, but so is my old timer.

About the only advantage of the frequency extension is FM receive on 10m. I would not attempt transmitting in the extended range as the radio probably has a real nasty performance outside its original designed bands without the required filters in the PA stage, just like other radios that are modified to work outside their normal VHF and UHF bands. Some even have poor performance before modification. By the way, don't hold your breath on an AM update, without hardware AM detection its complicated and not a lot of use. AM Broadcast, Airbands, and CB receive is about it. 73.

Question: Does it really receive the Aircraft band in AM? I have the older firmware and it won't do the Aircraft band at all. Comment: It would be nice if Tidradio would allow the firmware hackers access to the firmware so it can be modified to do all kinds of cool things like the UV-K5. Update: I read further down that the new firmware does indeed allow receiving AM Aircraft band, and that AM can be turned on and off in the menu.
