Tidradio sent me the 2nd generation H8 to review and in this video I give you my thoughts on this as well as address some of the issues that were brought up by ‪@HAMRADIODUDE‬ a few months back

I think it came across in video but I am genuinely impressed with it. It is nice to know they listen and take actions on identified issues.

Good. I was wondering when Tidradio was gonna release the amateur version of the H8. I have a pre-release model, but was liking the radio and hoped they continued to support it.

Thanks for the review. Did you test the antennas with a VNA? Most antennas are nothing more than dummy loads. I have several antennas that show 1.1:1 SWR across the entire antenna when the manu says it is dual band. Anyway, thanks for the review. KF6BL

No, didn't bother putting it no VNA although not a bad idea. I would venture a guess that is is very similar in results to other like antennas like Nagoya. I used my on air results which were positive as my litmus test.

Why do you put the frequency to 146.520 on channel #1 and not 462?whats the difference?and well also for the repeater? I thought 146 it’s only for short range ? Can you explain that I’m a little confuse I’m new to this …I just bought 2 of this radios…is it better to be at 146 than 462 ?

146.52 is the national simplex frequency in the US for 2M. VHF tends to have a little better reach than UHF in a given environment. I don't do a lot of simplex stuff but that is where you will find folks out and about. 440 simplex is less used in my experience. There is no right or wrong answer just what I do.

I received one today, not happy. When transmitting and touching the battery, it has very bad feedback. When not touching the battery, there is no feedback. Waiting on the manufacturer to respond if there’s a fix. Seems some other people have this issue and some don’t. I hoped I would get lucky.

I have seen videos on that issue as well. I never had that issue.

Very easy to open this radio up to both ham and gmrs - lots of RU-vid videos out there on how to do this from the keypad.

What is this radio primary use? What all can it actually do. New to the radio and all that entails. Totally lost lol

This is a basic analog VHF/UHF radio. This is an entry level radio that allows for local comms on repeaters as well as direct radio to radio comms.

The software is call ODMaster and can be found on the Apple App Store for iOS devices or Google Play for Android.

It's unusual because they only send that to people who do reviews when you buy it as a consumer and you do not get the microphone

Can't explain that one. I did notice that there are two packages available on Amazon. One with extra battery and mic and one without.

No, the first generation H8s did not have USB-C charging.

Having found out all the bad news about the v1 watching to see if the v2 is another sham or a decent radio

My first impressions are it is a good radio now. Time will be the true test. More to follow.

@@houseofhamradio the true test will be when someone looks at the rf spectrum on tx to see whether they fixed the far too strong harmonica that the v1 had. Till someone independent shows that I wouldn’t touch it with a barge poll ! With the v1 too many podcasts raved about it and only one or two actually checked and reported the problems !

@@simongordon8182 Very good point. I have not checked that and the only thing that would lead me to believe they fixed that is that the radio has attained FCC certification. I cannot speak to whether that means anything regarding spectral purity or not. At some point I will try and put it on the TinySA and see what I get.

Has low audio and you can only fix it with the software. The Software doesn't load because it can't find the Radio. Very frustrating

The software always seems to be the weak link to all of these Chinese radios. Usually, not finding the radio is a driver issue which can be a huge pain to troubleshoot. I would be sure you have the correct CPS driver for your OS. Best of luck
