I just have to say my daughter and I follow your channel and we love everything you do and share and we are praying for God's new address for us to move. When you shared pre wash your fabric that is something so many times people don't do. I've been sewing for over 50 years one thing I have done when I bought fabric when I was so for my children years ago I made everything they wore is I always watched it in hot water. Someone told me that years ago to do that because that way if something was ever washed by mistake in warm water and dried in the dryer it was taken care of before I ever sewed the item. So that's what I've done for years is washed it in hot water and dried it in hot water if at all possible especially if it was cotton. As my kids grew up I was so thankful because many times they would do their own laundry and not always do the cool cycle or low. I am currently redoing some things in our home while we are still here and then attempting to do curtains with drop cloths like you have shared before. But I love that you shared this fabric site because we used to have a fabric store here and now it's closed. Although there is a store in another town called SR Harris here in Minnesota and it is phenomenal if anybody lives in Minnesota

I have the IKEA lenda curtains and washed them on cold. One of them shrunk substantially. I literally just got done ripping the hem out to make them longer. Thankfully I left a lot of hem like you said. I like the ties on these. They are nice if you need a custom size, but you definitely can’t go wrong with the IKEA ones for the price. I know you’ve mentioned buying them before as well.

These look absolutely lovely in your room. The tie style fits so well with your home. I am a Beginner PLUS in sewing (I know the basics and have done lots of easy projects repeatedly, but I have not moved on to more complicated techniques). I could follow your instructions with no problem - you explained each step very well. Thank you for showing us!

I sewed a curtain for my doorway in the bedroom using a quilt cover that matched my linen (they were all going out on clearance) using the button end (pillow cases for the material) to make my ties so if I ever need to use it as a quilt cover again I can. I used the tie top method because I used a tree branch rather than a straight rod as my curtain rod and the ties let me adjust for the different length I needed☺️

IKEA has tab top curtains. 2 panels in a package 55 inches each panel with 98 and 120 in length for $24.99 in several colors. I just got two sets of the grey for my living room and dining room and a white set for the family room 98 was the shortest so I had to cut length off as my ceilings are only 7 1/2 feet from ceiling to floor I can never find curtains short enough I use the left over fabric for other projects

I NEED TO MAKE THESE!!! The curtains that came with the house I bought in December are dusty rose relics from the 80s or 90s and they need to go! I desperately need to go through your course once my garden stops keeping me busy. Thanks for the tutorial xo

Thank you so much Lisa! These are really beautiful! I have alway an issue when I sew thick fabrics together and the machine just doesn’t let the fabric run. I don’t know if it makes sense... I have to watch your sewing videos for sure 🤗

Do you think a basket woven valence type thing would be cool for the top of the windows to warm up the windows and cozey them up? I lived in a house with tall windows and it was hard bc everything toward the ceiling looked so bare and everything felt very bottom heavy with stuff on the floor but the walls/windows bare. We had a beautiful wooden carved Sandoz image that we added that warmed up the walls but I always thought it'd be cool to have multiples for the windows but I do love wood, baskets and tapestry although the tapestry would not work in my current home.

What is a good starter sewing machine?
@cynthiafisher9907
@cynthiafisher9907 4 года назад
This is an opinion from someone who has been sewing for decades. I think vintage elna machines and vintage Singer machines are the way to go. They were made with much finer craftsmanship. The newer beginner type machines are noisy, not very powerful and so lightweight they bounce all over the table. It makes for a frustrating experience for a beginner sewist. Also, for the same price(or much less) of a new machine, you can get an awesome vintage machine you can use forever. Hope this helps!

Blue Cotton By Kammy Lisa said in the beginning of this video that Brother sewing machines are good for beginner seamstresses…my Mom had always used Singer back in the 60’s and 70’s. Around $80 for a Brother brand.
