I really hated The Perks of Being a Wallflower at 18 last year. I feel like it’s the sort of book I would have loved at 13, but now find really poorly written.
It's a tie between The Book Thief (because let's talk about what will happen, and when it happens, and then what happened afterwards) and Sophie's choice (which I'm pretty sure should have instead been titled "i want to do Sophie even though she's taken and also smt about Nazis I'll halfheartedly describe between my lusting for Sophie) for me.
Room is an incredible book but it is a tough tough hang. I think it's better than the movie since you're in the mind of the child trying to process his existence
What i found annoying it's that it's clear an adult wrote the child's perspective without knowing anything about children, as their actions, vocabulary, and thoughts were vastly outside of a kid's mental range. She also seems to forget as she writes and the kid goes from being a toddler to fifteen overnight or so.
I read obsidian when it was all the rage and hated it because it felt like twilight but aliens and that was the only change :/ I actually bought the scarlet letter BECAUSE of easy a in my teens but I still have not read it and I think I won't like it. I read the first few pages of the casual vacancy and I was like what is this?? And returned it to the library. I love the alchemist I must admit. I love agatha christie but I haven't read that one. I liked the perks of being a wallpaper when I read it. I loved reading room. I don't like thrillers but I did love that one. One day was okay for me but it wasn't great. I wouldn't recommend it at all. I read the 100 and it was AWFUL. So I never watched it. Midnight sun wasn't good even if I do stan twilight. I have to admit I was underwhelmed with shatter me. YES LETS BURN WUTHERING HEIGHTS. Black leopard red wolf is the most awful thing lol.
im gonna be so excited whenever you talk about the magicians, i know ive told you this before but i had such a wild time hate/love reading that book, so im super interested to hear your thoughts on it! picking a least favourite is hard because do i pick a DNF or a book i finished? whatever im gonna say the little friend by donna tartt, i DNFed it, and its sad because i really enjoyed the secret history and the goldfinch but the little friend was just not... not it. it was just rich people nonsense with racism. donna tartt writes characters i dont agree with a lot of the time, they can be problematic so to speak, but in her other books they are interesting and having an interesting story. not so in this one. the disappointment makes it so much worse, you know?
I will def have to talk about why I love the magicians at some point! AND YES I never got into donna tartt but I can see how disappointing it would be to love her work and then have one dud in there
read Trust Exercise for book club last year and I think it's probably my least favorite I've ever read. and I know there are other bad books but that one is just clouding my mind when I try to remember anything else. ugh.
ughhhh i had to study Heart of Darkness in school what a sorry excuse for a book. the teacher tried to spin it as anti-racist when it was anything but 🙄 also i looove wuthering heights and i looove to see how polarising it is 💜
