One day I was headed to my college night class with my DIY (Do It Yourself) individual Box Braids extensions style and a Sistah stopped me on the street in Jamaica, Queens. She asked me what Salon I went to and after I revealed I styled my own hair (at first she didn't believe me due to my neat parts & style, she actually thought I didn't want to share my "salon" ☺️) then she asked if I would style her hair. I didn't watch the Kardashian show regularly but I remember catching an episode every now and then and this particular episode I recall that she was getting a divorce from Kris Humphries after a month of marriage and Kim was very embarrassed about it and just wanted to get her mind off the situation. She traveled to London with some family and met up with Kanye West there and they all had dinner. Everyone was shocked that Kanye would take time out his busy schedule to eat with them but he did it because he was interested in Kim. Kris immediately clocked it and she pulled her aside and asked her how she felt About Kanye West and Kim said that she wasn't interested in dating right now because of what happened with Kris Humphries. Kris immediately told that she should give Kanye a chance because it would be a great opportunity. Kim kinda gave a her a side eye but at that moment I realized that she really pimps her daughters out to these rich men. She did the same with Kylie. She gave her the plan and Kim executed. She went from playboy to Vogue, from stealing from Brandi to a billionaire, from sex tapes to sitting front row in Runway shows in Paris, from Following Paris Hilton everywhere to sitting front row in award shows and that was all thanks to Kanye. People can say whatever they want but they leech and suck people dry and move on to the next thing. That's how they've gotten where they are.

True Claudia! I just don’t go back because I hate to hurt their feelings especially if I like them. Plus I hate confrontation. So if I return, I’ll tell them exactly what I want and if they screw it up again, I don’t return. Our people are too proud to just admit we screwed up. One time I did some lash extensions on a client I wasn’t proud of. So I deducted half of the price, though she didn’t complain about them. I, personally, knew I did a bad job so I comped her. My daughter works for Nike as a graphic designer. I can unequivocally say that Nike does not buy shoes in bulk. The base of the shoes are made in China as well as the sole. The designs, the air bubble, the automatic laces, lights & other features are all done right down the street for me at Nike world campus in Beaverton Oregon.

In NJ, you can have an in home hair salon. You just have to meet the guidelines. My hairstylist had a home salon when her kids were little. She had to make renovations and had the area inspected before she could open.

Many many years ago (back in the day 70s/80s), it was considered to be exceptional customer service if you didn't like the hairstyle; beauticians did the styling over without extra fees. They either did it over the same day or told you to return the next day before their first appt. As Claudia stated, beauticians wanted the customer to be happy, and I definitely wouldn't want my work to be considered awful and lacking, especially if I am aiming for returning customers. As an entrepreneur of any kind of business, you have to fix it to retain the customer. That's how you get traffic to your business and positive word of mouth reviews. That type of marketing speaks for itself and it's free. However, I know this isn't the case anymore with inflation as the cost of living continues to rise...and maybe the reasoning why hairstylists give up their salon suites and work from the home. I, too, don't return to a salon if the style wasn't what I asked for. Every time I relocated to another state, I will always ask black colleagues about where do they get their hair or braids done...If I don't have that option, I will go on Style Seat. Many great hairstylists use that platform.
