One of the things I’ve run into working around production companies is thin gage stainless tests. I failed my first one. It was an outside corner to corner no penetration deal. I’ve since learned there are many ways to tackle that test with and without filler.

Indeed! Always ways to learn options:) No ‘one way’ for things.

Fyback backing tape with a purge hose in the end and rolled end will make a huge difference so you can get full penetration and a nice silver gold looking backside. It takes a little more time to set up but it's rewarding seeing a silver/gold roll penetration weld. Hope that helps someone.

Another great one! The video length doesn't matter to me, because your videos are informative and to the point. I'm currently just gathering inspiration from your channel and your experience. I'm hoping to buy a tig machine and take your online class this summer. It's fascinating to me that joining two pieces of metal can actually be a beautiful art form. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!

Thanks Dusty, excellent video as usual. I think the short form vids are great for going over a specific skill like you did here. Something I might watch to brush up before doing some practice. Longer form have a place too but I do like short for skill-centric stuff. Keep up the good work!

Anything stainless need to be purged from the back side. When you allow molten ss access to atmosphere it sugars. The outside profile looks fantastic but a #12 cup hides the real problems that might be happening when you use the right size tungsten and cup. Drop down a size and use a smaller cup.

Dude thank you for your instruction. I have a number of projects that require tig welding. In the US. It is difficult to find a good welder that does good work, at a fair price without a lot of bulls#!+. After following your channel, I feel confident enough to try this on my own. I have never welded before and only have knowledge I've picked up from you and a couple of other "teacher" like you. Thanks. It would help if you could do a video on how someone like me can get started. What is the starting load out

Does a corner joint take less current than just running a stringer or a butt joint? Your current was set at 60 but you barely used half of that.

New subscriber..seen a bunch of your videos just subscribed.. so I can kind of mig weld..it gets the job done and holds where needed.. always wanted to learn tig...I've been teetering on "budget" welders.. I've been looking for a mig tig welder.. but most won't do aluminum tig...my understanding is ya need ac/dc for steel and aluminum.. but can't seem to find the combo.. should I just get a budget mig... Then get the budget tig/stick combo? Tryin to stay under 1k

Hey dusty another great video. I'm new to welding so I have a question. Why did you set up for 60 amps to use about 35ish? Wouldn't it be much easier to control your pedal had you set your machine for maybe 40? Thanks in advance!
@PacificArcTigWelding
@PacificArcTigWelding 3 года назад
Hey! The reason I usually set higher than I need to, is because I always get frustrated when I set my machine, and don’t have enough amperage after I’ve started the pass. Better to set it too high, and not use it, than not have enough :-)
@Uriel-Septim.

I like to use a piece of bronze or aluminium on the back/inside to "steal" some of the heat and to avoid the welding from coming trough, unless if I am going for full welding rote, then I of course use a rail and formiergas. The Golden Rule is the principle of treating others as you want to be treated. It is a maxim that is found in most religions and cultures. It can be considered an ethic of reciprocity in some religions, although different religions treat it differently. The maxim may appear as a positive or negative injunction governing conduct: Treat others as you would like others to treat you (positive or directive form) Do not treat others in ways that you would not like to be treated (negative or prohibitive form) What you wish upon others, you wish upon yourself (empathetic or responsive form) Source: Wikipedia.
