Rotten weather can blight any round of golf, but the impact of the elements is significantly heightened on the naturally exposed links courses that host The Open. In 2002, Tiger Woods experienced this first-hand.
After two solid opening rounds, Tiger Woods was still on course for an unprecedented calendar-year Grand Slam in 2002 following his victories in The Masters and U.S. Open.
However, the World Number One suffered more than most in the gusting winds of Saturday afternoon, as he carded an 81 to slip from four under to six over.
Woods was at least able to see the bright side when he birdied the 17th, raising his arms in triumph and fist-bumping his close friend and playing partner Mark O’Meara with a broad smile on his face.

I'm watching this in a thunderstorm. Very good timing. And of course let's not forget, he followed this nightmare up with a 65 the next round to return to E for the tournament, because he's Tiger Woods.

He was on for the 3rd straight major in 2002, but for this round and the bad weather. Had he won here, I am sure he would have completed the slam in 2002 again and stick it to the people who said he didnt do a slam earlier because one of the victories was in 2001

Well, he didn't achieve the single year grand slam. That is just a fact. What he did achieve, holding all 4 trophies at the same time, was just as good, of course, but not the same thing.

Playing Golf in the rain is hard enough, but when it is gusty winds makes it even harder. Trying to allow for it can destroy your shot. Hit it well using the wind to hold it and the wind drops suddenly and your ball is in the crap.

shot 65 the next day, and lost the tournament by six strokes. So even for shooting an 81 not the worst finish

The weather is always my favorite part of The Open. I want conditions hard. To give us a true champion. The harder the better. I remember Phil having his hat blow off his head. Perfect. Tiger. The 2nd best to ever play the game.

This is one reason why it's my favorite of the majors, along with it being played on links courses. I love links golf and have played on those courses in all types of weather. It's so much better than parkland golf on warm, sunny, windless days all the time.
