TikTok CEO, Shou Zi Chew, testified before US Congress on Thursday amid growing security concerns, with the Biden administration threatening to remove the app from the US entirely.

During the hearing, Republican Kat Cammack showed Congress a TikTok video inciting violence towards the House Energy and Commerce Committee, with the chair of the committee named in the captions. The video was uploaded to the platform 41 days ago and was still circulating despite company guidelines assuring users it would take down threatening content. Shou Zi Chew was denied a chance to respond to Cammack's claims by the chair. The video was removed from TikTok during the hearing.

"This woman's logic is all over the place." Which part did you have a problem grasping? Let me see if we can work it out: 1. The premise is that TikTok's own guidelines state that they "do not allow threats of violence" and if users do, they will be banned. 2. She then gave an example of an account threatening violence 41 days ago without being banned. 3. She then used this simple example to conclude that if you can't even manage something simple like a threatening post, how will you manage something hard like the privacy and security of 150 million US users. 4. Lastly she implied that maybe they deliberately don't do it because Tik-tok is a Chinese company and all Chinese companies are required to acquiesce to CCP demands which is a potential national security threat to the US. Her delivery wasn't great but the logic was sound. Which part specifically did you disagree with?

Unless it actually says to do violence verbally or in captions then it will slip through the cracks. All that was was a video of how a glock works with a caption about the committee using slang like “asf”. The computer didn’t pick it up. It’s also extremely likely that was dark humor and nothing more.

It can easily influence public opinions. data can b easily accessed to target people. Also reports say even after banning tiktok, they have yet to remove all the info from servers, it still hold all the user data(data of 150m users). it's a threat . you can embrace if you want.

That video wasn't a data security issue. That was a video slipping through the cracks due to the algorithm being unable to pick it up as a threat, which is a moderation of content issue. That has nothing to do with data breach/security issues.

You can have 10 backup databases, 5 security measures, 20 reserve serves, but you can't guarantee that there won't be a tsunami the next day that comes and destroys your servers. That's why it's ridiculous for the congressman to ask for a 100% guarantee

I believe the distinction you were trying to draw is between China chinese and Singaporean Chinese. I understand that in the US the term "Chinese" is often used with reference to a citizen from China but that is not actually the case. Theres China Chinese, then theres Singaporean Chinese, which is who the CEO is.
