I think most of the LDS missionaries are sincere and have good intentions. However, the ones I have met are woefully ignorant about their church's history and even some modern doctrines. Two sweet young girls converted my brain injured nephew a few years ago. He thought he could find a pretty young wife and have help from the church when he needed it. He later realized it did not work that way. He read about the Mormon treatment of non-Mormons in the early years, and he was done. Is a brain injury survivor an appropriate target for conversion? @marablake344
@marablake344 2 года назад
@@lisamcdonald2877 I'm so sorry. The church for sure takes advantage of people with disabilities. We are indoctrinated from a very young age that everyone needs to hear the gospel for the "plan of salvation" to work. Members are constantly asked to give names of people fir the missionaries to visit. There is so much pressure to convert people. And we aren't allowed to find out anything about the leaders or church that isn't church approved. Anything but that is deemed antimormon. So most youth who are willing to serve missions are completely ignorant.

Looking back at their experience, ex-cult members almost always say they didn’t know what was happening at the moment and their mind was being controlled. It’s too bad mind control isn’t a punishable or provable crime. It’s very insidious how the mind can be used and controlled by others.

It's not against the law to belong to a cult. Or be a so-called cult leader. You cannot be arrested for that. It takes many to leave & report sexual abuse or financial abuse. Often it is financial crimes that can bring about police investigation. But the prosecuters need many victims to come to report to police before victims can get justice. It is not a simple thing. If you are an adult & decide to work for free for a cult or are treated poorly the authorities think you are not a minor & you made the decision to follow a leader of your own free will. So good luck w justice. Step 1 leave the cult get free & start life over.

Both sisters were dancing together on tic toc The daughter who did not join 7M was ghosted by her sister Miranda. The parents & sister have been actively pursuing getting Miranda out of the church & the tik toc dancing. Miranda rejects leaving 7M. The family of this woman was told not to be aggressive in getting Miranda out of the cult because it might have retaliation on Miranda within the 7M. IMO Miranda's family needs to let it go. If their daughter wants to leave, the cult expert said just show that you will be supportive if she wants to return to her family. The parents & especially the sister need to move forward w their lives. Miranda is an adult. She has told fans she is OK. Just let her decide. One day she may leave 7M. You cannot force these situations. Other. Members of this cult have left but have been unable to get the leader Robert Shin to be arrested on sexual abuse charges or financial misdeeds.

It always strikes me as sad that even when a cult starts out with a good premise (sharing goods and services, living off the land, practicing peace and love), they devolve into something that isolates them and harms them and others. The human factor is always present in the form of greed, power accumulation, materialism, and selfishness. The leader who speaks with authority has created a message that s/he knows will appeal to specific needs in disenfranchised people who have goods or money to appropriate “for the good of the mission”. They inevitably use well known techniques of brainwashing and control to align these recruits with the mission (leech as much material and emotional supply as they can) before destroying the recruit and their families. And those who struggle to get their loved ones back watch in fear and helplessness as the cult member moves towards an unhappy, even violent, end. People forget that cults are not always centered around religion (NXIUM) or represent these facets in obvious ways. People are already prepped for brainwashing by exposure to advertising, being emotionally scarred by dysfunctional families, having “role models” (Kardashians, sports figures, political figures) hawking messages about what’s made them so successful - much of which is lies or exaggerations. The problem at the root is lack of strong core values, no encouragement to think critically, and absence of love, respect, and acceptance in personal relationships which leads people to seek a “safe harbor”. Cue the cult leader who finds low hanging fruit. It’s insidious and hard to spot so people need to be made aware from an early age. Adults are as vulnerable as kids given the right circumstances.

If this is a "cult" then couldn't we compare say maybe The Boy Scouts of America or any pyramid scheme really a "cult" .... no seriously? Why is this such a HUGE ordeal when these people don't look in danger, on drugs, all married and pregnant by one leader, getting ready for travel to Mars, actively recruiting other dancers.... these adults have free will. The Catholic Church is a Cult. I know, I went to Catholic school. The Kingdom Hall - Jehovah Witness's is a cult. Really any form of religious organization that isolates their religious beliefs from other religious beliefs can be put in a "cult" category. People evolve. People become self aware and sometimes choose to remove toxic people from their lives. Sometimes those people are family. I haven't spoken to a sister 15 years because she is an Evangelical Christian and looks down on me because I have pagan beliefs. What is a modern cult?? I'm assuming we are all have some type of cult behavior just from being alive. We are manipulated by the media daily into believing what they want us to... we give our money to the highest bidder because they have convinced us they are the only real ones taking care of us. Example- health care benefits. Product selection. Car choices. Food choices. Please stop using the term cult unless its 100% a proven cult. The Church of Satan in San Francisco is a Cult. My mom was in Lifespring, now labeled a cult. It was her choice. My mom had free will. This is a religious organization that has control of its dancers assets.. in exchange for whatever they agreed to. It's a contract they, as adults have agreed to. Not their family. If they lose money I guess they'll learn. Just like if my sister works for a company that told her if she joined their "team" her life would change. Everything was perfect at first... a year later.. treated her like shit, didnt give her a raise for 5 years and only offered her the bottom of the barrel health care benefits. Yet, she was trapped because it was all she had and couldnt afford to leave. It took her 3 more years to finally get out. Sound like a cult? No, why not?

You're monotone analysis is quite relaxing yet very concise and thought provoking(I enjoy the jokes you slip in too without batting an eye or making a gesture!). What intrigues me most are your videos on grandiose and vulnerable narcissism. I'm curious how much of a role narcissism plays on the whole video culture in this day and age. It seems everyone wants to be famous in some way, shape or form. My question is though, how much of a role does trauma play when it comes to vulnerable narcissism, say if it were constant life-long harrassment and bullying mixed in with drug addiction and physical trauma? I've always wondered about the findings with concussive brain injury and altered behavior. Can they go hand in hand?

I am almost positive that getting a problematic blogger on RU-vid involved in trying to pull their loved one away or "open their eyes" to being in a cult with; degrading, bulling and further victimizing their loved one is a good step towards keeping the door open to the loved one. Seeking an EDUCATED professional within the field or uniting with other loved ones sounds a lot more helpful than seeking someone who is looking at your loved one as a stepping stone to the wealth they desire. Seriously tho Dr. G. ... this was excellent, and a very important current day topic! There is a book by author Steve Hassan ... a good read if you have friends or family in a cult. He got pulled into the "Moonies" when he was young, then got out. It's great to hear it from someone who's seen both sides, and how they got him. Today, he works on legal (no kidnapping) methods of extricating cult members ... and he also says, even highly intelligent people can be pulled in. As in "Too smart for your own good." Ty again Dr. G for another informative video!!!🎯
