Beautiful dress on you Sally! The match of fabric to pattern is perfect :) re interfacing....at one time interfacing wasn't glued and often when I'm using a good quality, drapey viscose I'll just use a 100% cotton sheet (thrift shops often have many!) - it washes like a dream especially if it's been washed many times before - and it's soft and pliable but offers a little more stability than not having anything. It avoids glue, worries of shrinkage and it's breathable. Sew-in interfacing is great and although it might at first glance seem like a lot of extra work, it really isn't since you'll be stay stitching most of your garment anyway. While doing your staystitching, you can sew in your interfacing. You mentioned in your video that you are 5'3" and you weren't sure what height Tilly drafts for. I noticed that the waist on your dress seems to sit below YOUR waist? Tilly likely drafts for 5'6" as most pattern companies do. Measuring your lengths against hers - ie the bust point, waist and hip may remove 3 inches in your length before getting to the tiers which will likely have to be shortened a bit too.

Thanks so much! I’m really not a fan of any kind of interfacing to be honest and I’ll always leave it off wherever I can. Obviously not possible with a collar etc. It’s funny you say that about the bodice because when I first finished it I was worried it was too short but perhaps that’s because I’m not used to things that fall at the natural waist. Thank you for pointing that out I’ll definitely have a look at that for next time :) Thanks so much for watching and for your helpful comments xx

Your Lyra turned out beautifully & well done on your 1st collar & stand, love the tip for using hairbands for the belt carriers 👍 As far as I know Tilly drafts for 5'5", so I was surprised that yours turned out so long to need 10cm cutting off, although technically when I made mine I should have lengthened it but didn't & it hits me on the knees perfectly, so maybe she has changed her fit model 🤔 Anyway I love mine, also used a Dashwood Rayon & agree the instructions are great

Thanks so much! Yes I was surprised about the length especially as I was worried the bodice looked very short before attaching the skirt, maybe something went a bit awry 😂 Popping over to look for photos of yours now xx

Beautiful version of the Lyra and the fabric is gorgeous too. I agree about pockets are sometimes not required for certain fabrics! Great top about the hair elastic for the belt loops...I'll definitely do that for when I need them 😀👍 xx

I’m the same actually that’s why I didn’t interface my Carolyn PJs I was wondering if I could get away with none but I don’t think I could this time with the stand up collar! X

Love your version and the material is beautiful. Great tip about the elastic. I’ve been sewing for 2 years and I also decided to challenge myself with this dress. I made a size 6 for the top and cut a size 5 for the skirt pieces. Once complete, I found it far too baggy so I unpicked the waistline and cut the skirt pieces down the middle and took out 8 inches on each piece and then reassembled the dress. Fits much better and the join is not that noticeable because of my material. Unlike you, I found the collar very hard to follow. I even went onto Tilly’s website and that didn’t help either. I ended up watching a Professor Pincushion RU-vid video which was absolutely fantastic. I didn’t bother with a top buttonhole or button because I would never close it up. I also made the long sleeve version but did not bother with the elastic as I did not want it. I turn up the sleeves a few times to get the desired length for me. Overall for my first attempt I’m happy but would like to think that my next attempt will be perfect. Thank you for sharing yours. If you ever decide to do a tutorial for it, I’d love to see how you did the collar with Tilly’s instructions. Xx

Oh I’m sorry you had such trouble with the pattern it’s good that there are so many other helpful tutorials out there on RU-vid isn’t it. Wow that’s a lot of fabric to take out of the dress I’m really pleased you like it now. I never thought of leaving off the top button hole but I may do that next time because it’ll never be buttoned up haha. Thank you for watching xx

Thanks Shirley for your fitting comments. I made it for the first time recently and made a size 4. Bodice is perfect, skirt is way too baggy and I’m struggling to know where I can take it in. I’m making another one so will make a smaller skirt
