Making toys is my first love, thank you for sharing yours! You will nail Amigurumi no problem, you’ve knit some very complicated sweaters and crochet is easier (imo).
Lovely to see what you bought. It’s great to see and feel all the fabrics and items. I bought a magnifying lamp as well as some fabrics. Ooh yes I agree about Higgs and Higgs and bought some of that stripey jersey…I’m a different coloured…feels lovely…I’m making the French Navy Tarifa Tee shirt with mine. I’ve never sewn with a stretch fabric….wish me luck!
I absolutely LOVE Tilda fabric, when I visited my sister in Texas I bought some of it, I should've bought more because I can't find it in Washington state
Lovely haul, you found some great fabrics. I went on the Thursday and loved it, it’s always my favourite show. M. Rosenberg is usually at the show, they are also Stitch fabrics and do have a website
You sound as if you had a lovely time Sally. Your purchases are super and well thought out. I try to go to the March one and have started to be much more careful with what I buy as I still have some fabrics from years ago 😂 I would have liked to go to this one as I’m after all the cosy fabrics at the moment and I also love @ Higgs and Higgs. I order their samples as they are so reasonable and that really helps. I would like the Sherpa lined bubble cord for a vogue jacket pattern I have but I’m still thinking about it . Obviously it wouldn’t be lined so finishing the inside seams etc. and whether I could do buttonholes as so thick. I keep thinking about it though. Thank you for your vlog and love the toy kits. I love a kit. 😊
Vintage sewing patterns are generally true to size I've found, they have nowhere near as much ease in as modern ones. The proportions are generally different as well as waist and bust lengths etc. I use them all the time and prefer them to modern even if I need to grade them up a bit, they fit me much better. I'd suggest a toile for your first try to get used to them :)
Another lovely video as always. I was curious if you brought your color analysis with you to help you select fabrics? Whenever I go fabric shopping in person I always try to remember to bring my color cards with me as well as swatches of fabric from both garments I’ve already constructed and fabrics in stash.
Hello Sally, great finds! I'm very jealous, wish we had shows & expos like that here in the US😢. Regarding your charcoal wool, there used to be a fabric called "flannel backed satin", a nice slippery side and a brushed side that might be a lining choice. You have such great fabric shops in the UK, you'll likely find something similar. Looking forward to seeing your makes. p.s. my vote is for the shirt dress in the viscose. Take care!
I went to the K&SS for the first time and loved it! I had two fabrics on my list and found both - as well as three other fabrics that had my name written on them... 😂 I've made one garment up already, a jersey top which matches a pair of trousers I made last month, and I'm delighted with all my lovely purchases 😊
Great vlog. I’ve only been to the knitting and stitching show once (I’m in the us) but I loved it. Could I ask the name of the patterns you used to make the doll and bear etc for your daughter. Thanks.
Really lovely video, yes to the marnie dress, it will look lovely. Jenny stitches had one on the other day, I now want to make that dress. I am also waning to make some jackets and coats. When I was around my mid twenty, I had that second vintage pattern, and I loved the dress. I made it in a mid blue dipsy fabric with a white collar and edged the collar in a tiny cotton lace. I wish i still had that dress. Enjoy your sewing, Gwen
Really like your blouse. What is the name of the blown yarn you are knitting your jumper in? I have a hat pattern knitted in blown yarn that is now discontinued and I’m struggling to find equivalent yarns.
I really do not think this is a good beginner project, and I honestly don't think a single person I know could complete this in an hour. I've been sewing for years and this took me several hours over the course of 2 days. The only reason I continued on is because I took enough time to print the pattern, make sure it was the right size. Then I had to make the zipper shorter, which made the entire project immensely harder than it already was since the zipper was now in 1 piece. This lacked a lot of clean and concise instructions and it took me several watch throughs and an hour of seam ripping to actually figure out what to do
I’m very sorry you feel that way however I really don’t understand why you’ve had such trouble if you’ve printed out the pattern correctly (100%) a 12” zipper should be the correct size and should not need shortening. I also don’t understand why your zipper was ever in more than one piece. Perhaps this wasn’t the video for you I’m sorry you struggled with it x
Why does the pattern need to be cut on the bias? None of the other tutorials say to do this. I can get 2 pumpkins from a fat quarter. Your way wastes fabric. Just wondering
Cutting on the bias allows the fabric to stretch and creates a plumper pumpkin. I find doing it this way gives the best result but of course you can cut on the straight grain if you prefer x
The tutorial told me to purchase a 12 inch zipper which I did. Per the video tutorial, the zipper is much too long and does not appear to be the right size like shown in the video.
I really don’t know why you are finding that. The printable pattern should measure just over 6” at the top edge (the extra is seam allowance) Since the pattern is cut on the fold the zip should fit in with the zip pull and stops meeting the edges. Have you printed out the pattern at 100% and checked the test square? X
My dog does the same thing. 'Nope, not going out there’ but then if I go to another door he’s like ‘ yeah, this will work’ and out he goes. It’s so silly but works every time. Try it. (Hopefully you have another door). For me it means going down to the basement door.
Did you make that jacket? Nice!!! I used to have labels “made by Irene” for my projects! I can recommend getting those because it added to the fun of I MADE THIS!!!
