Tim, although fully aware of you and your stand-up career (along with your ability on the piano), that was 'it' I'm afraid. But, having heard you chatting with a couple of the dj's on BBC Radio 2 here in the UK recently, i was made aware of your new album. Zoe Ball played 'The Absence Of You' on her breakfast show on Friday morning as i was on my commute into work. I was immediately struck by how good it is. When i got to work, i added the album to my Apple Music and listened to the whole thing last night. Shit, how good it is! Although i do love all kinds of music, in my heart of hearts i am into Rock/Metal, and there is an underlying element of that 'feel' in some of the songs here. This, the first track on the album just wiped the floor with me. Absolutely love it, as i do pretty much the whole album. Please do more of this 'serious' music stuff because, believe me, it really is 'seriously' good! Nice one, Tim! I am now 'on board'. Shit, i even subbed, Lol!... \m/ (:o)

Klistarf, did you know he also did all the music in the Broadway plays , (Roald Dahl's) Matilda , it won 7 Olivier awards, also Groundhog Day. Plus he's acted in TV in US, movies, too. Has a series, otmr maybe more a miniseries, I think. Plus, he sang in Jesus Christ Superstar, and all the while was an activist in bringing justice, (raised the money for witnesses to go testify) against Cardinal Pell, (great song on youtube!) And got Australia to go from plastic bags! (Canvas Bags, another great song) to me, he's one of the most talented people in the world! I love his '9 life lessons', the one where he's awarded honors from his old school. 💞✌😷🎃

@@laurajarrell6187 Hey Laura, thanks for the comment. I have been doing a little digging and have learned about Tim's work on Matilda and Groundhog Day The Musical, along with Jesus Christ Superstar. I've also added all of the stuff i could find to my Apple Music. I will be sure to look into the other songs etc. you mentioned - thanks for the heads up. Having lived with the Apart Together album a little longer now, i have to say that it is right up there for best album of 2020, for me. I have even bought the cd since, which is something i don't really do these days. Lol! And as for this track right here, absolutely without doubt my song of the year, for sure! Also got my brother and his fiancee into his stuff now, too. Should i be requesting commission...? (:o)

Tim is searching for a new way to make art, and I truly appreciate it... even though some things in his new work don't quite click for me, it only makes sense. Tim has done many genres of music and carries many influences that might or might not work in melancholic ballads such as these. genre-hopping is hard, and the only way to learn is to make ~ so keep making

I’m trying very hard to like this. Internally yelling, “ It’s Tim Minchin! Of course you like it!” But I’m sorry, I can’t. I don’t even like it just as a song by Joe Blow, it’s generic, cliched, just done as a commercial project. I watched “I Wrote This on an Airport Piano before this, and was already struggling, because I thought it was a great song, his voice was powerful, it some quiet humour. It just wasn’t the Tim I found and loved during the plague. However, I acknowledged he was after some more mainstream appreciators, which explained the over rehearsed look to the vid. I thought I’d keep watching the other releases, hoping to like them enough to buy the album, which I really wanted to do to support Tim. This song didn’t do it.

It's interesting how in my 20s hardcore atheist days is when "Storm" and "Thank you God" were my absolute favorite songs - now, all these years later and my attitude changed to "live and let live", his new album seems to have done the same thing and focused on what's really important in life. Absolutely love this album, in particular this song, Leaving LA, Absence of You... Shit, who am I kidding, the whole album is terrific.
