A fun look back in time. Good job

I was petrified of the Gettysburg tower as a kid! The elevator ride up was terrifying (it was really fast and would YANK you up when it started) and the tower would sway a bit in the breeze, and creak under your feet. And it was reallllly high up! My dear old dad always wanted us to go up it, and we all tried to protest every time, but up we went nevertheless. I went away to school when I was older, and when I came back the tower was gone, and soon after my dad was gone too. Seeing that tower, with its rock lined path that we all walked down so many times, and rail gate entrance we all walked through, really brought back some dear memories. What I wouldn’t do to go back to that happy time with my family young and healthy. Thanks, Adams County Historical Society, this was wonderful!

Just today, I was listening to an episode of Addressing Gettysburg w you two, and I was cracking up & learning at the same time - while driving!

Your comment about dominating the Devil's Den tour narrative was thought provoking. Perhaps Gary's "hyper speech" today was prompted by Gary trying to get a word in edgewise?

Heading to Gettysburg on Saturday for our yearly pilgrimage!!!! Going to see where our 3rd West Virginia Cavalry and 17th Virginia Cavalry relatives fought! Going to hit your historical society too!

Ah, so that's how Tim Smith looked as a young whippersnapper! I remember when they were going to build the National Tower the claim that because it would be painted light blue it would be essentially invisible. Sure am glad it's gone.

I enjoyed this look back in time. A couple of questions, my first visit to the battlefield was in 1965 (I was only 8 at the time) and I seem to recall a tall tower on the field then, is that a faulty memory or was there a predecessor to the National Tower, and who was shooting those videos if it wasn’t Gary or Tim or a spouse? Thanks for sharing this!
