I'm ojibwe and you speak it very well. better than me. both my parents were fluent in ojibwe but never spoke to me in ojibwe therefore i never learned. I only know words, no sentences. I think it's so cool how you taught yourself to learn ojibwe. I'd love to do that. You've inspired me to try. Thanks for posting this. I"m glad i found it, you made me so proud.

Boozhoo Tim, I am Ojibwe living in Waukesha, WI. My Indian name in Ojibwe is Wabun Anung which means Morning Star. I admire your spirit wanting to learn Ojibwe by only having access to the computer every morning for ten days. I loved listening to the intonation of your pronunciation. It takes great courage to get in front of the camera in front of all the world and practice a native language without a formal teacher and put yourself out there. Many Blessings to you! Yeah that’s what I was thinking, if he had an elder that could teach him. If he heard an elder speak the words he would be able to say it just like them. I grew up understanding some words by heart but I never really got into learning the big sentences until I got older. I used to ask my parents what to say or how to say words in saulteaux. But recently I had a baby girl named Janiyah Rowena Siigwan Boulanger I haven’t really had the time to learn again. Now that my baby is with her mom in the reservation I’m going to continue learning. Sometimes when an older person speaks to me in ojibwe I wouldn’t understand cause they speak it too fast. Once they tell me in English I would know what they said in ojibwe. I only know basic sentences, demands, questions and answers. I know them from my child hood, I want to get into learning the big sentences and try learning all the animals again. My dad taught me how to count to 100 when I was young but I forget. I can just ask him how again.

If you're more interested in learning more of the Native American languages, you should try Diné (Navajo), Shoshone, and Washoe :) those are my three tribes. I understand Shoshone fluently, but find it a little difficult to speak. I'm starting to understand Diné because of my cheii (maternal grandfather). Unfortunately, I never got the chance to learn my Washoe language while my uncle was alive, but I have been learning on my own from the dictionary and audio books he made for the tribe.
@zabaanshenaas

I would love to learn Shoshone, but for now I'm mostly concentrating on Navaho, Hopi, Sioux, Ojibwe, Mohawk, and Salish. I like to learn languages that are very different to each other.

"I haven't met any Ojibwe people" I think everyone here is part of the Ojibwe. My mother passed away February 2021. She was 50% Ojibwe, I remember learning about the Anishinaabe in school, my mother being proud of us learning about where we came from, what the four sacred medicines are, and how the creator put us on mother Earth. You have inspired me to start learning and passing on the language to future generations. Miigwech!

Thank you, Tim. Speaking another language brings people together, especially attempting to do so, making a connection, the heart is there. Yesterday I heard Eileen Regina Edwards professional given name was Ojibwe for "On my Way" which struck me as beautiful. My Pastor Sunday was nervous in making the request, but complemented our Section Leaders for singing so well "Pescador de Hombres" known by its English Title "Lord, You Have Come to the Seashore." I appreciate all efforts made to celebrate and bridge cultures. My 3rd Great Grandmother was First Nations (Ontario CAN). The native languages are unique and valued. Thank you, Tim, great job! I wanted to hear someone speaking Ojibwe conversationally because I have never heard this language before. It is very beautiful. If anyone know of other videos with people speaking Ojibwe language in conversation, please let me know. I know there are videos to learn basic phrases already, but I am truly just interested in letting the sounds of Ojibwe flow over me. If you are a native speaker of Ojibwe, please consider making a video for the rest of us to come to know this language. I live in Northern California and am unlikely to meet any native speakers here (we have many beautiful indigenous languages here, though) but I love languages and believe they are important part of carrying the culture. I just want to listen to it even if i cannot understand the words. Like listening to music. I feel languages speak to and from our soul, speak to our values and like music can communicate to us through sound beyond literal meaning if that makes sense. Tim, I am so impressed with your ability to learn languages. This is a beautiful quality in you and thanks for sharing it here.

Im ojibwe!! Did you really learn all that by yourself? Thats amazing most people learn ojibwe from having been raised that way. I'm not as good at speaking as you are though but from what I hear your really good. It doesn't matter if it sounds off because there are so many different ojibwe tribes that say things differently. I shared this too my facebook so my native family could hear it too. :)

I'm part Ojibwe and don't speak it, but my grandma who used to be fluent sometimes shares some of what she remembers with me. You started out the video with "Aanii boozhoo" and to my understanding those word are both greeting but they're generally used separately. Aanii being a casual greeting and boozhoo being a more formal one thats used in more serious settings like ceremony. (If there are any Ojibwe who are speakers here, and I'm wrong about this feel free to correct me! c: )
