Practicing Pashto -- spoken in Afghanistan and Pakistan -- after three weeks. Any feedback is great! FB page: / polyglotpal 20 language video: • American Polyglot Prac...
No way dude. What he's done is impressive, but he still speaks it at a low level with many grammatical mistakes. Its good for a foreigner but still far from fluent.
@eshal khan not reallu its the same however pashtuns from peshawar their pashto is really really URDUIFIED with english and Pashtuns from KABUL there pashto is really persianzied. both yalla accent r rubbish pure pashto is spoken in KP waziristan anf paktia etc as well as kandhahar and swat
I am Pakhtun and speak the language with my parents, your Pakhto is very good for someone who learned it in a month, namekhuda! I can totally understand you. I dont speak the language on a full time basis but you have inspired me!
OhNoHoNeY same but I am only 12 well acutally my cuz is the same age as me he is in year 7 and he know full Pashto and I am in year 8 I only know a bit woops
Your Pashto must be really horrible then. While his Pashto is impressive for a foreigner, it has a number of obvious grammatical mistakes. Seems like most Western Pashtuns don't know how to speak Pashto after all.
Bro, I'm half-pakhtun (but from Swat valley in Pakistan, not Pekhawar ya da Afghanistan) and I'm literally so impressed. Your vocabulary is amazing, and thought your pronunciation was stiff (this was years ago though), it's very hard to train an English tongue into learning how to work with all these different sounds that require new parts of your mouth to come into play. Either way; can't imagine how you speak now, most assuredly way better than me lol. Hopefully I can get back in touch with that part of my history and re-learn it ....... somehow.
Are you really pukhtun? If yes then try to translate this .. "ma parun yo kas weshte o pa sar" if ur capable of translating this .. im gonna be impressed for sure lol . Also whatever i said in that sentence is true .Also I wrote it in english so u wouldn't use google translate.
@The_Genius007 Actually majority of people 80-90% of people in Afghanistan speak Farsi. All Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, Pamiris speak Farsi. Even majority of Pashtuns in Afghanistan speak Farsi. But Pashto only spoken by Pashtuns and only some others
Throw in some slang like saying "lika" (like) and "dagha" (that) in between sentences for no real reason and then it will sound more authentic. Apart from that i cant say anything, actually im amazed
OMG Tim that is the best pashto I have heard from a beginner. It's my language (first language is english as i am british born and speak english all the time. I use pashto with my family) and i'm very proud of it and the way you speak it makes it sound so exotic. Hats off to you Tim 🙌🙌
Hi Tim You sound great, it's impressive how well you can speak Pashto considering you never had a teacher to teach you. BBC Pashto is an excellent way to learn and pick up the dialect.
Im Brazilian,I liver in Puerto Rico for 8 ys and learned spanish and english. Learned italian by my self and I was happy with it, but when i watched your videos you inspired me to learn more languages. Im now able to speak 10 languages, before the inspirantion from your video I could only speak 4, but now 10.Thanks for the inspiration mate. :)
André Mello I know English, know some Chinese, and am learning Haitian Creole now. I've been wondering if I want to learn more, but I kept thinking it would be as hard as the past couple have, thanks for encouraging me!
He's also the inspiration I've had for learning new languages; for a while I only knew English and French. But then I watched Tim's videos and thought that learning a new language could be fun. So I tried to learn German, that went okay. So I tried Polish, as of now I can understand basic Polish but I keep improving. I'd like to give thanks to Tim for inspiring me to learn new languages and to keep learning them.
Although I get that there's different types of Pashto depending on the location, my moms from meidan, Pashto there is different and in my opinion easier to learn than khandari Pashto. I also know Farsi, Hindi and French! Your videos are inspiring and encouraging me to continue my pursuit of learning as many languages as I can. I'm currently trying to read and write in hindi, and also learn to speak korean.
If this guy comes to Pakistan where a lot of pashtuns live, they won't say he is a foreigner especially if they see him speaking pashto fluently. This guys speaks very good. Good work, Tim
@@slayedclaw317 why don't you google Pashtun people and their Genes? You will find out yourself. You haven't even done research on Pashtuns. Yet you claimed they look Indians lol totally wrong. Lame guess. If you know a bit about Pashtuns, tell me how many tribes does Pashtun have?
@@slayedclaw317 Indians wish they looked like Pashtuns LOL its amazing how self-hating and degenerated you indians are with your own physical appearance. You hate everything about yourself so you try cluster yourselves with others. 100% of Indians are considerably darker, different facial features than 100% of Pashtuns.
I speak the Pashto dialect from Kandahar, and the way you speak, the words you use, and pronounce things is very different from the way we speak. If I wasn't used to hearing different dialects now and again I don't think I'd be able to understand much of what you said. In fact, some of what you said I only picked up because of the aid of subtitles lol. Might be more helpful for someone who is more familiar with the dialect you are using to give you any pointers or critiques. Compared to my dialect it is all kinds of incorrect, but that may not be the case for whichever dialect you are using.
@@Phantom-nf5qq He isn't. He is speaking in BBC Pashto. The BBC's English as well as foreign language news outlets always standardize the language. People in the U.K don't really sound like the BBC. The same is true for BBC PASHTO. I was BBC Pashto on the Internet and it takes a while for you to acclimatize yourself to the way they deliver the standardized dialect. They want to make sure enough people for both the kh,sh,pk,kabul and kandahari dialects can understand. I think he does an amazing job!
What I'm ashamed of is that half the stuff he is saying I don't understand and yet Pashto is my first language -eek! Love the video! We learnt about you at school, you're amazing!
They're both members of the Indo-Aryan family, but Pashto has a number of grammatical features (gender, case, ergativity) which Farsi/Dari dropped thousands of years ago. For me, the two do sound very similar, but one unique feature of Pashto is that it has retroflex consonants and several distinct fricatives (dz, ts). To me, at least, Dari accents tend to sound more nasal, but it changes noticeably from region to region. In terms of vocabulary, they are very similar indeed. Hope that helps!
Amazing!! Pashto is not a very well-known language. May I know what sparked your interest in this language and why you wanted to learn it? How did you even get aware of it?
I love how you capture the "music" of different languages, beyond the grammar and pronunciation...would love to see a video (in English) describing your techniques for learning so much so well so fast!
it's so good to see you speaking pashto . my advice for you is that you are mixing persian accent with pashto 😊 . pashto is hard but you will learn it quickly. love from Pakistan ❤
Yes it is true pashto is a hard language to learn and you're already getting good at it. I'm afghan and I speak two languages as my dad speaks Persian and my mother speaks Pashto so I am really impressed with the way you're pronouncing this hard to learn language.
he is actually doing very good in a month no one can learn this much language who is giving bad reviews i just want to say if you can't encourage someone don't say anything bad or stop giving reviews.
If i didn't know that u r American citizen than for sure I wouldn't believe u r not a pathan..pashtu is my mother tongue and u speak far better than most of the pasthun I know.. Keep it up And Thanks a lot for learning our language, u give us honor...
Good job Tim! And the dialect you are speaking is the true and correct version spoken by pashtuns in northern and eastern Afghanistan. I would not heed the advice of people telling you to learn pekhawari pashto as it is unfortunately not the pure dialect. It is very Urdu influenced and is not seen as pure by the pashtuns. Anyways, good job bro!
***** Nope, not at all. In fact, it is actually Dari that is influenced by Pashto as it has a lot of Pashto words. Only southern pashto may show sign of persian influence.
***** Wazirwola is hard to learn even for Pashtuns, it is similar to ormuri from what i heard. I don't know about swati pastho though, i believe it also has indic infulences.
***** hey afghan lion I was wondering how different is the pashto spoken in Pakistan around panjab attock district area because my familys from a village their and I want to speak there pashto
عالی است موافقم با شما زبانهای خیلی عالی و مفید را آموخته ای از جمله عربی إن شاءالله که این زبانها راهی هدایت به طریق مستقیم و خالی از انحراف را برایتان ثمر دهد!
yea bro you speak pretty good im afghan and american parents from afg and i was born and raised in VA USA CLOSE to NYC but yea bro im impressed i currently live in Dubai and learning Arabic and french im going back to VA this summer
This was an amazing video and honestly you speak much better Pashto than me. I grew up learning 2 kinds of Pashto, one from swat and one from Peshawar but it merged into just Peshawar Pashto which I find easier. Keep learning!
YOOO Tim! You're accent is perfect! I'm an Afghan and i was born in Afghanistan but, i moved to U.S. when i was young but, i started to learn my mother tongue(Pashto) from my parents and i took some online courses and i'm luckily a bilingual rn i speak many, many languages such as English,Pashto, hindi, and a little bit of some other languages.
awesome bro you nailed it I really appreciate they way you did speak it you're totally smart enough I believe that but pashto isn't limited to just Afghanistan it is spoken widely and more efficient over in Pakistan as well ....well ..either way ..let me tell you something interesting as you are getting excited while speaking pashto similarly people over here in Pakistan they are getting died for e English matter of fact English is used as a yardstick against the literacy level of a person is measured lol I know this sounds funny to all of you but it is fact such as if any person over here in Pakistan gets a PhD degree in economics but he had done his course in Urdu and unable to speak English as the native one does he will be considered illiterate and same man gets to USA washes dishes over there when gets back to country he is being taken as highly qualified ...and this is the basic reason our nation will never make a progress because they feel so shy talking in their native language
The whole English thing being used as a literacy measurement is pathetic that being said the whole being a doctor in Pakistan and the degrees/licensing not transferring over to 🇺🇸 is not unique to immigrants from 🇵🇰 it happens to many immigrants who are trained professionals in their homelands
Omg! I am pukhtun !😂 u are speaking my language dude! Need more improvement but still very good! Dara kah Tim!😂 you have to speak pashto every day .I feel very happy that people are also learning our language. You know u are speaking Waziristan language.very good!👌👌👍👍
Wow this is amazing! I am pashtun myself and my pronunciation is nowhere near as good as this! I am truly honoured that out of the countless languages found around the world you have chosen pashto as one most interesting to you :) One quick question though, as great as this whole thing is, what inpired you to learn about Afghanistan and furthermore the pashto language? I am really eager to find out and it would be greatly appreciated if you answered anyways keep up the great work!
ډیره ښه خبره ده! زه یوه د پښتو ژبه شګرده یم او ستایې پښتو دیره ښه ده! I’m still learning but listening to this and being able to understand most of what you’re saying really made me happy with how far I’m coming with this language!
You are awesome!!! So impressive that you are able to speak that well in just a month. Can you leave some tips as to how/what you did at home to begin learning the way you did? Thanks
Afarin!!! Der khe de wowele! Pashto asaana ziba ne dey. Aw beshak, Afghani gheza bande towl khalak mayan di 😂 I speak 5 languages fluently myself and greatly admire your open mindedness and dedication! Truly amazing
Damn bro, that's really good. Keep practicing! You have a little Farsi mixed in there but that's ok! The original dialect is the southern "accent," which is paSHto. Try to acquire your learning material from sources of that region. Khair yoseh. ;)
That's so hilarious when you said:I also love afghan food🤣 There is a mistake but it's okay And I have a question, How did you learn it in three months? because I wanna learn some language. I HOPE YOU REPLY TO ME
Wow, listening to a white dude speak pashto makes the language sound very similar to Hebrew with the STRONG use of the 'kh' sounds, which makes me further believe that the pashtuns are the long lost cousins of the Jews. After all they are referred to as the lost tribe of Israel!!
i have heard to speak in Pashto, spoken by natives. And the real Pashto doesnt sound, like the Pashto pronounced by him.XD.The ,Pashto spoken by natives ,sounds very different.(At least,to my ears). The Pashto of Tim sounds like Hebrew/Arabic Xd because he learnt those 2 languages before Pashto ,and they have influenced strongly, in his Pashto.Especially ,Arabic.:D. His Wolof too.The Wolof spoken by him, doesnt sound, like the Wolof spoken by natives.XS.His Wolof is Arabized too.,and it has received influences of Arabic too.))XS.Something that i admire ,and that i respect a lot ,.I find great, that he speaks with an Arabized accent ,when his native tongue is English. This guy deserves, and has, the biggest of my respects. An incredible talent.A crack for learning languages.:D.RESPECT.))
Dera kha! Good job Tim! I have seen your videos on Arabic, Pashto, and Hindi and as a fluent speaker in all three, I can assure you that your doing a great job.
wowww your pronouncation is very good but you're confusing personal pronouns sometimes. for example when u say "I was doing ..." at the end of the sentence you end up with "us"or others pronouns. and it would be perfect if you'd learn the difference about talking about things and talking about people :) its not that easy as in english haha anyway, very good!
(1) Have you considered a career in the foreign service (or in the intelligence world). Being a white Pashto speaker is something of a rarity. I'm sure your country could find very worthwhile ways to apply your skills. My advice if you do end up pursuing that, don't follow the analyst route; with good Pashto you're better off going out into the field as a case officer than sitting in a contact centre at one of the CIA's "off-campus" out-stations waiting for boring material to come in to be translated;. (2) You're really cute. Sorry, I know if it were a girl it's be creepy for me to say so. But the whole polyglottal thing (with novel languages to boot), and the adorable floppy hair.
LordHealey, I speak 11 languages but will never go to a war zone of my own origins because they kill people like me saying we are the worse of both worlds. For this young man yes. He is outsider so they will like him rather than killing him. My brother works in the British Council etc and he was offered a top job in Afghanistan but he refused because his wife said they will kill him. Thus it is better that an outsider speak this language because they do not see them as a threat but If I go or others like me it is certain death.
Sounds to I don't know flemmy I guess you would say your using your throat to much you sound like your speaking Hebrew I served in Afghanistan and the locals and the Afghan army are from all over Afghanistan and they don't talk with that hacking up form sound... and a little bit faster if I remember
Pretty good man, I'm also learning pashto and luckily with Pashton friends I haven't and the fact that I Know farsi makes it easier Derr shayesta, kor de wodan.
Great job young boy it's very hard for English speakers to say pashto but your pronounciation is enough to understand keep going we appreciate your pronounciation skills
ښه ټينګ ټينګ اولمبه 😄 هر څه د پکي مات کړل Tim bro we appreciate your trying to learn our native language I understand 8 languages and I can write them to but it's really not easy to learn other language
