As a result of Greg changing the formation we lost this game. We were still dangerous in the 4-4-1. Tim’s red certainly didn’t help but had we stayed in that 4-4-1 we had a chance. Fire Greg.
I agree, it was a must win game. 5-3-1 just let Panama tee off on us for 80 minutes and absolutely neutered our offense. Keep the game open and make it a shootout. We had the better players.
The best way to show the USSF they messed up is to stop going to the games. Empty stadiums will be the only thing they'll listen if they keep Gerg after this debacle.

If GGG has any sense of decency, or patriotism, or simple acceptance of reality, he will resign at the conclusion of US participation in this tournament. He will furthermore acknowledge that it was a mistake on the part of the federation to reappoint him, and beg the forgiveness of a nation of supporters who want nothing more from this team but to matter on the world stage. I didn't hate GGG. But the cold, hard reality is that he has no earthly business in the dugout of a national side with global aspirations. A mid table MLS club... A decent college team... Perhaps a third division club in Europe - provided the club's supporters are ok with never being promoted or never upsetting a bigger club in a cup competition. That's where he belongs.
He took accountability, and now it's time to be professional, step up, and move forward. US is better with Weah, stop blaming the result of the whole game on him alone. This is a team sport. Not tennis.
Weah is mid at best. If you don't believe me go look at his market value, stats, and highlight reels. Guys highlights are completing a cross and missing the target.
I watched Chile do the same thing tonight, losing a player early to a red card. The difference was Chile didn’t paint themselves into a corner by trying to play 5-3-1 formation. I’m sitting there thinking, in almost every situation, when the US gets in a tough spot, GGG gets the tactics wrong. Every. Single. Time.
100% right. Even worse is that the talent gap between Chile and Canada is far less than between the US and Panama. If Chile could maintain their game-plan and reasonable possession versus Canada after going down a man, the US has no excuse for not being able to do the same playing with 10 against Panama.
Weah did not change the formation, players, and tactics from the 4-4-1 with Reyna on the pitch, which worked in the first half, to a 5-3-1 which offered no counterattacking threat.
On the face of it Klinsmann comes around really well. But there’s a reason Tottenham rejected him and finally went with Ange. South Korea fired him. When it’s a day to day relationship I doubt he is as pleasant.
The way I look at it is that going down a man is going to happen. It will happen to every single team on the planet. What matters is how you adjust after the fact. Gregg Berhalter was a deer in headlights trying to figure it out...

for me it was the tactical shift and subs that significantly contributed, disagree stevie. 5 at the back with carter-vickers was a disgrace, awful subs, awful tactics, the us was still posing a threat in a 4-4-1 with Balogun up top. sure horvath is awful as well and should make the save on the second goal but greg has plenty of the blame for this result
That's what Gregg does, He did the same thing with the Reyna controversy in the WC.....He's mediocre technically, and He's mediocre when it comes to player relationships.......yet the federation brings him back and keeps giving him chances like he's Mourinho or somebody. I'm sure it's hard to give your all playing for somebody like this guy =( .....step it up Federation!
I agree. Yesterday, they played with Uruguay, and I was so mad that he did not greet Balogun after he got injured and left for the bench. He is a loser who doesn't have a relationship with the players.
I’ve watched and supported the men’s national team for decades. And I have fiercely supported them over the years. But I’m genuinely apathetic about the team now. I find myself not even caring anymore whether they win, lose, or draw. It stinks but my connection to the team is gone.
@@MERCwtm I’m definitely not a fake fan. I was once a player involved in the state and regional national team program myself trying to make the team. I’m just completely over the ethos of USSF and don’t like how the team play at all. It is what it is.
Hey! Keep your head up. The U.S. is going to improve. Panama played dirty and were rewarded for it. They had 19 fouls to the U.S. 4. That red card was a terrible call that wouldn't been called a red in any other game, it's unfortunate. I like the way they play, they play hard and play to win. That's all you can ask from the players. They're trying but this wasn't their fault.

A red card in the 18th minute is game-costing. If it was in the last 10-15 minutes like Panama's, not such a big deal (as we saw). Tim Weah cost USMNT this game.
I don't know why they're all arguing that Weah shouldn't have to hear that he lost the team the game. I don't think this USA team needs any more shielding and mental protection that the lackluster results and poor performances they put out are ok and no big deal. If anything they need the opposite. I mean I get it's happened and the only thing to do is move forward, but there's no sense of accountability or importance. They just don't take it very seriously. I don't really put much value in a prepared, written apology. Watched his brief interview on the matter and he basically just shrugged his shoulders and said, 'yeah, I'm a little bummed, but I'm ok.' @tomodul2619 Klinsman was fired because of a clash of cultures and pure ignorance. Klinsmann is more suited for Europe or North America. Going to Asia was a big mistake for him.

His roster choices would be better, his recruitment would be better, his in game management would be better, his relationships with clubs would be better, better friendly competition, - I could go on. The team that the US has now is mostly due to Klinsmann. Our players in Europe are mostly due to Klinsmann. I like Gregg, but he just isn't making the right decisions during the games. I'd like to see him back in MLS one day.

He is mostly responsible for our players in Europe. So we have players in Europe and can't beat CONCACAF away and apparently at home either. There has been no improvement since Klinsmann left. Sure Berhalter can get fired…the problem really stems from the top. US Soccer federation needs to be overhauled! Their lack of progression and continuous lack of foresight is really the problem here. It used to be lack of player talent, then lack of quality coaches and referees. The players I feel we have now….it’s a systemic lack of leadership that is lacking.

There is no semblance of accountability on this team. Consequence does not exist for this group of players. They’re just playing for fun with their friends and Gregg smiles and holds their hands. Reyna, Dest, now Weah. This is a pattern and it all starts and ends with the coach. These players are talented but too comfortable. The team needs to adopt a culture of discipline and responsibility. Stevie is looking at this decision in a vacuum as far as Copa performance goes. Yes, you could always say the biggest determining factor in the US getting grouped is losing the game to Panama because you were playing with 10 men, and that enough of the result was out of Berhalter's hands that you can't entirely blame him for it. HOWEVER, that ignores everything else with Berhalter - he's tactically inept, not a man motivator, and the best anyone can say about him is that the "players like him". I'm sorry, but that's not good enough, especially not 2 years away from hosting a World Cup. He has zero signature wins, he has ONE win against CONCACAF opponents on the road, his only win against a Top 20 Fifa-ranked team not named Mexico is Iran. Berhalter is at best a mediocre manager, he's proven that the best result he can manage is the bare minimum, and he's taken this US side as far as he can take them. This is the perfect opportunity to cut bait and correct the mistake that was rehiring him.

I lost respect for Greg Belhalter as a human, and as a coach when he stooped down to playing in extremely low temperatures to have the advantage against Honduras, I believe. I'm sorry, but you don't do this. You have a great team that would easily win, but to stoop down that low is just not acceptable. But the players didn’t know what to do and that is on the coach. We could have avoided all of this had we got a qualified coach after the World Cup. These players are to comfortable with Gregg. He’s a crutch not a coach.

Sure the Panama player made the most of it, but any hit on another player’s head is a big no no. The foul looked worse than it actually was, but it’s a red in most refs eyes
I honestly think that Weah's hit was more accidental than intentional, so I feel for the guy in some sense. The problem is that he should have never put himself in a position to create that accident.
