This pair of Timberland boots were mailed to us for repair. These boots were in very rough shape and definitely needed some love. After an upgraded resole and some thorough cleaning of the uppers, this pair of Timberland boots is good to go. Time for another restoration!

About 15 years ago, I had an old pair of BMW motorcycle boots that had soles I hated. They didn’t grip very well on wet pavement, which is not a good feature when riding a BMW (or any motorcycle). So I went to a cobbler to have them resoled with Vibram soles. I thought it was a simple process, but i remember him telling me that he wanted to replace the midsole with leather to make them last longer and be more comfortable. I whined about the cost, but they ended up being amazing amazing. Those boots lasted 10 years of riding. I actually sold them on eBay because BMW quit making that style, and because of what the cobbler had done, it made them more valuable because it made it easier to replace the soles. Now I know why! Thanks for this episode.

I have a pair of Timbs where the soles delaminated just that that. I took them to a local cobbler and he was able to re-sole with full depth black Vibrams that gave it many more years of wear for them. I've had these Timbs for a total of 26 years so I've been really happy with them and they're still part of my outdoor boot collection.

@@assistantchip723 Depends, the designer brand shoes vary greatly in make and quality from model to model. The better (more expensive) ones can often be decently made, often times blake stitched (the sleek and elegant Italian style models), those can be repaired fairly easily. The cheap ones that have just a one piece rubber sole, they can usually be repaired, if that's worth it or not depends on the insole and footbed construction and the shape of the uppers.

MEN, you are mad! I am looking at you from Europe, Romania. For two years from now I am crazy about shoe restoration videos because I paid in my life (the equivalent of)150$ for 2 pairs of shoes, each, in different stages of my life, this bein the top of my budget just because I saw them and absolutely loved the model, but their construction proved to be poor even though their looks were good. So thinking about how and where to restore them, who has the knowledge in Romania and the tools and the expertise and the WILL to try I reached too many channels of shoe restoration, yours beautiful too. Thank you for the quality of your information and I congratulate you on your passion! Been stupid, now I buy superb second-hand or outlet shoes at a fraction of the price I paid a few years ago, all made abroad for ABROAD markets, not for Eastern Europe, and the quality is STRIKINGLY DIFFERENT! And I can now say that even I don't repair them, I am not crying over the loss of the original money. The profile has changed, the narrow sole and welt the originals come with is low profile and doesn't 'spill' over the edge this much. One of my requests has been fulfilled! Thanks a lot Trenton! Wish I could experience some of your proper winter ❄️ Today the temperature was 20 degrees Celsius in Greece. Not even autumn standards 😆

Being an old plastics chemist, part of what you are doing in the cleaning with acetone is cleaning away a mold-release compound, too. A fella needs to get that off very completely for your new adhesive to get a good bond(grip). I really enjoy watching you two birds fix the "un-fixable". LOL!

Hi! Love your channel! You guys have given me some great advice on my Thursdays! I have a pair of sperry boat shoes that I had the soles redone that im not as much a fan of as I feel they were kind of botched, I haven't see you guys do something like boat shoes yet, do you think you could do a midsole with an insole stitch like this, then glue another boat shoe sole on? Kinda what I think sperry does with their gold cup shoes?

Hi Trent. I see that you finally got the Timberland boots that you were looking for awhile back to do a video on. If these were my boots I would probably sit either with my leg crossed or both stretched out and crossed so everyone could see the cool red stitching on the soles. A nice artistic touch. It's this kind of little attention to details that keep customers coming back again and again. Stay safe and warm. It's colder than the shady side of an iceberg here in the midwest today. :-D. BRRR.

@@TrentonHeath where are you based and how much a re-sole like this cost. I love to get it done on my new shoes as it looks so much better than the factory sole?

This was great! You’ve given this New Yorker a sigh of relief. I’ve wondered if Timbs could be resoled and y’all make it clear that they can. Now I just have to find mine.......

Way back, I had a pair of Timberland boots as a very young man. They fell apart at the 6 month mark. I was poor and very angry. Never did that again. Went to Redwings. I had one pair that got soles 4 times before they were useless. These days, I don't need a tough work boot. I got some Allen Edmonds Park City vibram sole rough leather. Comfortable, tough, and resole easy. Clean and leather conditioner regularly. Should last longer than I will.
