I really appreciate the accessability of having the chime when the motion sickness warning is over! Even though I don't have to worry about it, that is an amazing way to handle it and I hope to continue seeing that from you and elsewhere!

Ignorant comment here but do you just get nauseous with motion sickness or is there a chance to get a seizure? I get the flashing lights warning that might trigger a seizure but I'm not familiar with the motion sickness side effects. Do you end up running to the bathroom and puke or is it more ominous?
@thdetdestro151
@thdetdestro151 2 года назад
I was going to go and comment on this actually, I get motion sickness quite easily from high speed constant motion (that covers too much of my field of view) and I was soooo glad when they showed that, I used my peripheral vision to see what they meant and yeah, I probably would have had to look away anyways. so yeah thank you for that, also in my case the only thing would be I would get really dizzy and have to go lie down for a bit, or it might even trigger my positional vertigo. So nothing life threatening like a seizure warning, but also not something I'd like to experience.

Specs? They look great. The reality? This monitor only hits 2000+ nits on test patterns. You won't see over 1200 or so in any real content. It will show scanlines at 240hz. You will have some level of flickering issues in some situations. You will see overdrive artifacts, at least when using VRR. Sometimes quite extreme ones. The HDR EOTF tracking is utterly fudged as well, as is typical with Samsung, so it is not tracking as it should, and you will not see HDR content anywhere near how it was meant to be displayed. This is just the issues that are known of as well. These monitors, as with the rest of the Odyssey series, are a mess. Avoid them.

Part of the reason they can keep SSD prices super competitive is they're vertically integrated. The major components on their SSD (NAND, DRAM, Controller) are made by them. It's less expensive when you don't have to source your components from another vendor that also needs to make their profit. That and Samsung makes some high quality flash and controllers that it's quite common to see Samsung DRAM, NAND, and controllers in a bunch of other SSDs and DRAM modules. Did a bit of digging and found that it only works over an HDMI connection on this monitor. This is far and away the only reason RGB is worth having, and needs to become a standard feature on ALL displays. Max brightness of the Backlight, polling rate, and average response time would all be useful metrics. For example in a scene with color changing strobing having the backlight match what's on the display is critical to not be detracting.

Despite claiming a peak of 2000 nits, his sample of the Neo G7 came in at 1230 nits peak, which is obviously LOWER than ALL of his PG32UQX numbers and over 500 nits lower than his sample's peak of 1742 nits. Most budget builds on RU-vid only bring up the pricing for the pc tower and take out the monitor or kb and mouse.. Even the latest LTT 1000usd build video is guilty of it.. And I know I know people will say we'll reuse the old monitor and other stuff... But that's not always the case... And also isn't it better to suggest an monitor that's perfect for the current config at least and mention how much it will cost us in addition to the pc budget?? For eg. this build will include a 3070 and an i5... Now your best bet is to go for a 1440p monitor/4k monitor at 144hz or plan a 360hz fhd one if you want fps advantage...

To everyone who's considering buying this monitor: Sadly the Neo G8 has a very severe scanlines problem at 240Hz! I am a gamer at heart and for gaming this monitor really delivers, it's just amazing! But I'm also doing tons of image and video editing. So I was looking for a "jack of all traits" monitor and this video had me convinced the Neo G8 would be such a display. But the scanlines that are very visible, particularly in the blue tones, make it practically useless in Photoshop - at least at 240 Hz. When you disable adaptive sync and lower the refresh rate to 120 Hz, the problem *almost* goes away, but still it's not great. Also for most Adobe application, if you're running at 240Hz with adaptive sync on, you'll have to disable adaptive sync for the Adobe apps in your driver, or you'll get constant screen flashing. So unless you're okay with having to switch around a bunch of monitor settings between using this display for gaming or for creative work, this really isn't a jack of all traits monitor. But it's a damn fine gaming monitor! Hope this helps some of you. :)

correct, neither HDMI 2.1 or Displayport 1.4 can display 4k 120hz, they have stream compression to force going up to 240hz, so its not a genuine 4k 240hz experience. Also, it doesnt genuinely run at 4k 120hz as HDMI 2.1 but as glorified HDMI 2.0 currently (can change with a firmware update) but the PS5 and XBOX series X does not run 4k 120hz with this monitor currently. so yeah. Just excitedly googled this, it appears it's the Original G7 that's around that price, which is QHD not UHD (which is still nice). So going from 1440p to 4k with those refresh rates is making the price tag make more sense haha. The Neo G7 is still over 1k

Its really cool companies send you stuff. I'm broke as hell and nothing seems to be getting better here in Ontario. Miss my nerd days..investing in video cards and gaming monitors

Must be hard being a rocket test pilot cowboy with no time for such trifling things as video games.

What's the g-sync range here? The compatible models don't have 1-240hz g-sync range, unfortunately....

QD-OLED is still far superior, but at least people have more options for their gaming needs if they really need 4K HDR @ 240Hz. And Linus, you didn't mention the high amount of halo effects in darker games. This will always be an issue with mini-LED FALD displays.

4k 360hz is pointless, u can barely get 4k 144 fps with a 4090
