I learned from a Chinese man at a Chinese buffet when I was a kid. He saw me struggling, and came over and showed me. As he clicked the ends together, he said "chop chop." I will never forget that nice man 😂
@@OddDuck9000He meant we don't use it as frequently as East Asians use it for their daily meals. We mostly use our hands, spoons, or forks depending on the dish we are eating. Chopsticks are used only for the time we go for East Asian cuisine. But not everybody can use them, as they are hard to use. I like to use them for snacks too, to avoid getting my hands dirty lol.
@@Nikita3909 i never said american, british and french people are known for using chopsticks. are you stupid? use your eyes and actually read correctly, i only said completely normal humans that still have their fingers can use chopsticks. that's all i said.
This is actually the first chopstick tutorial I've ever seen to actually make sense because it starts with the bottom one! All others I've seen are like "grip the top one like a pencil then slip the other one in inside the thumb" and that's the story of why I've always been bad at chopsticks 😅
I'm not Asian, but my father would not allow us to have any Chinese takeout food unless we used chopsticks exclusively, so I learned to use them as a toddler. His rationale was that if you ate an ethnic cuisine, you ate it the same way the people who made it would eat it.
I was fostered by a Chinese family as a small child and learned to use chopsticks before a knife and folk. I got out of the habit as I got older but will always take the opportunity to use them. Great tutorial thank you.
I learned from my Chinese best friend when we were both 7-8 years old. I used to eat all the time at his mother's restaurant. Now when I eat Chinese food I always think of him.
Our first grade teacher in Seattle had us all learn to use chopsticks at lunch time, we did this the whole school year. Funny to watch us eating sandwiches, oreos, chips and an sppke, but it worked, 55 years later I still use them with ease. Best teaching experience.
Love this; also grew up in WA, my kindergarten teacher would always bring new and different foods for snack time. My absolute favorite was baked tofu triangles with ponzu sauce; we only ever had it once, but even now over two decades later I remember it fondly.
I learned how to use chopsticks during lockdown. I used wooden chopsticks to train, started from picking up random things such as erasers and rice grains. Rice grain picking helps a lot ❤
Thank you so much. I have always loved using chop sticks. I tried to teach myself. I got the hang of it, I found for me it helps me to eat much slower.
I definitely was using my Chopsticks incorrectly I don't use them often but looking at your video I see I was using them incorrectly I was laying both chopsticks on the same finger. I knew that the back one didn't seem to have to move but still I didn't have them separated on two different fingers like I was supposed to so thank you very much.
@@itsjoannotjoann5070 Well, one could also say: "Why should we use knives and forks? We're civilized enough to know how to use chopsticks. No need to use deadly weapons such as a knife to feed yourself."
I can use them, not exactly like that, but good enough to pick up a grain of rice. I do it my way, which isn't something people would notice I don't think and personally I love them. I use them whenever I can. They are great for grabbing a pickle or an olive from a jar too. Great fun! Thanks, Mandy. It never hurts to learn new things! 💕💕💕
If you're not holding your chopsticks correctly you stick out like a sore thumb to those who know how they are held. And yes, it's very annoying seeing them held incorrectly.
I don't know why because I am American of German mix decent & have never known anyone Chinese, but just by picking them up my hand automatically knew how to do it😮!?? I have no problem with chunks of meat or vegetables but I just can't master rice😢!! I think I might squeeze too hard? But I keep trying❤!!!
so glad you shared this short. I'm not sure if my grip has at all been correct but it hasn't stopped me from using or finishing up a meal yet. Maybe with this lesson, I can improve upon my chopsticks stills to start using them to cook with.
This is the Best how to I’ve ever seen no one but u shows up close never have anyone shown Thank you so much I new I was doing it wrong!!❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹💕💕😁👍
Thank you! I have been trying to figure this out for years. Always the "clumsy American" when at my girlfriend's house for meals (they are immigrants from mainland China), no matter how much I try to get it right (yes, at home by myself, too). 😅 This actually makes sense. Thank you! Can't wait to try it this way.
coolensam, You aren't applying enough pressure on the bottom chopstick with ringfinger and thumb. Press up with your ring finger and down with base of thumb to prevent slipping/sliding. It takes practice to strengthen your ringfinger, try picking up things with it and thumb for a few days
I genuinely adore basic tutorials like this... like I get along fine while eating, yet mindfully practicing the gripping tips feel much more secure with the larger wooden cooking chopsticks I use with a wok 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 keep up the great ideas and content
I have tried to explain this to people so many times and some people just can't do it.. I picked it up right away.. But I started eating with chopsticks when I was 7 years old..
My nana grew up in Vietnam and Taiwan before moving to the US where she had my stepdad, she says i’m the only one in the family that uses chopsticks correctly and i am the only black person in my family😂
Great tutorial!! Will use this to help my sons hold their chopsticks as they’ve only been using the kiddie ones with the finger guides. I have trouble explaining it too because it’s just second nature to me😅 just wanna encourage others to keep practicing! Eventually it’ll become part of your muscle memory and soon you won’t even have to think much about how to hold them😊
Taught my daughter how-to use these over 40 years ago ... love using and eating with chopsticks ... even adds flava to the dish .... in my mind & heart!!! : ))) Wish I could post how my grandmama taught me to eat collards, mustards, cornbread & red beans with my fingers ... Ahhh! The beauty of cultures!! Thanks, Mandi!!!
