Josh, SP & BN were typical power in Evansville on trains from St Louis. I have my pair of L&N SD38’s and love them! Just remember in the future to do some Family Lines paint schemes. 😉

Great segment and great advice. “It’s my railroad” and “good enough” are important for enjoyment in the hobby. Especially for me who models the Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad in Nscale loosely in the 60’s. Would love to see ScaleTrains produce some equipment in that era in Nscale. My credit card is at the ready!

'It's my railroad' is arguably the best piece of advice one can give to a newcomer to the hobby. Going for pinpoint accuracy can be fun and if that's what you want to do, go for it. But that's not the only valid way to model. I'm modeling an alternative history CNW where they merged with Western Pacific in 1980 to finally reach the Pacific coast, and puts CNW in a position where it doesn't have to merge with UP in 1995. I'm tentatively setting my layout in 1989, but it will feature power that was off CNW's roster by then, as well as things CNW never owned, including GP60s, SD60Ms, and, my personal favorite, a handful of Cleburne-rebuilt CF7s built from CNW's F units (which were all retired in the midst of SF's conversion program). Is it prototypical? Operationally, yes, but otherwise not even a bit. Will it be fun and unique? Yes.

As pool power, L&N power made it into Los Angeles on occasion.. Love this video, especially the backstory and how nice the model looks after weathering! Suggestion: Can we hear more about how Josh went about weathering his SD38-2s by describing the materials he used to get the nice effect he achieved? (chalks? oils? acrylic? airbrush?)

Hey scale trains, when are you gonna finally release those HO scale Rivet Counter sd40ns? (UP SD40-2 rebuild) Only ones in HO is Athearns very unprototypical UP 1923 (I own said model) and id really appreciate it if you would release them, i know you talked about making SD40Ns before.
