Just discovered the indiana trail 100 yesterday while researching potential ultras to run next year and, SURPRISE, the race is tomorrow! Wife, kids, and I are going to have a picnic lunch and check it all out tomorrow, good luck!

Thanks for curating, Ryan! Glad to see you are still hammering. You have the IT100’s number this year!

I got into your channel a few years ago during the Altra days, but I still really enjoy listening to you talk about shoes I'm never going to buy or wear. Good luck on your redemption race!

Ryan - what I've done with Hokas in the past (before they came out with wide width in the Challenger) is cut a small slit near the pinky toe with a box cutter, allowing the pinky toes a bit more room. Happy trails!

Saucony Xodus Ultra is the perfect 100 mile shoe. I wore them at Vermont 100.

Great music, as always! Thanks for explaining a) your shift to "private" on Strava...I had wondered and b) your non-crew plan for the IT100. That'll work...those aid stations are quite frequent and they have terrific service. If you leave a drop bag at Rally Camp, you'll never be far from gear either. Enjoy the taper, Ryan!!

Its funny you mention about the Mafate 4 and being tight for your pinky. That's my only issue with them also, just did a 50 miler and my little toe was pretty sore and I really never have that issue in any other shoe. Really strange.

So glad to hear you’re considering my shoe of choice, the Xodus Ultra! ;) The Mafate is definitely on my next try list. Best of luck with the race, Ryan! 👍

Liked this video a lot. I did Cascade Crest 100 (WA, July 22) and Mountain Lakes 100 (OR, Sept. 24) in Speedgoats and loved them. They drain well if the course has water. Like you mentioned in the HOKAs, I prefer 2E for a wider splay. However, supply chain issues make it hard to get the wider ones in some sizes in shoes. Super annoying.

I always run 1 (even 1.5) size up on my trail Hokas and don’t look elsewhere for nothing

I’m gonna have to look up your review on the pulsar Pro because see a lot of mixed reviews on them and I actually know where I can get a pair right really really cheap and supposedly in really good shape so I’m gonna go look up your review

Hi Ryan. Sorry, it’s been a while and I feel I neglected your channel. Awesome to catch up with where you are and wow, another 100! It’s great you have that independent choice now for shoes but I was interested to hear about the crushed pinky in the Hoka and yet no Altra Olympus in your mix? Hope the rest/prep/tick over goes well these next few days in prep for the race & wow, you’re going European style with no pacers 😊 ATB! Paul

I noticed the old video but I’m just checking anyways the pulsar pros. How will they be for very rocky real technical trails no good or the plate won’t interfere with it that’s really basically my only question.

Great rewiew! I love the Pulsar Trail Pro myself, will take them to my next ultra! Can I ask the Brand of that running Cap? Looks sleek!

I find that the mafate stretches out a little after 50 miles.

I’ve been wearing the Xodus Ultra and have about 50 miles in them. Love the ride, but it irritates/blisters my Achilles a bit.

Ryan my feet kill me going up anything steep enough where you need to hike in the tecton x, but love em on the flats. Do your feet hurt going uphill in them too, or is it just me?

I watched a review on the Apple Ultra on The Running channel and while they liked a lot of things about it… the battery wouldn’t last more than about 8-9 hours in GPS mode. Do you find that to be true as well?

Hi Ryan. What were your thoughts on the Endorphin Edge? I have a 100 miler coming up and my combo looks like the Endorphin Edge or the Salomon Trail Pro for the first flattish 100k and either the SG 5s or the Norda 001 to finish when things get gnarly on coastline rocks and cliffs
@cb4atl
@cb4atl 2 года назад
I can’t imagine a worse pick for a 100 than the Endorphin Edge. Your feet/ankles will not survive. For a trail 50k or less, sure, but please please please heed my advice friend!
@brianogrady9883
@brianogrady9883 2 года назад
@@cb4atl Thanks Chad. Is it because of the instability in the heel at slow speeds? What was the longest distance you have run in them?
@cb4atl
@cb4atl 2 года назад
@@brianogrady9883 instability, tippiness, lack of comfort after mile 20ish, they were brutally uncomfortable during a mountainous 40k race. On flat, nontechnical stuff you might be able to get away with it but I just don’t know why you’d want to subject yourself to that for any length of time longer than necessary.

Hey, Ryan! I'm 16. Do you think it's a good idea for me to set a goal of running a 50-mile or 100-kilometer ultramarathon to be a good or bad idea for the risk of long-term damage?
@connorwhitson9663
@connorwhitson9663 2 года назад
Perhaps start with a trail marathon first, see how you do there
@scriptosaurusrex
@scriptosaurusrex 2 года назад
As long as you train right and are patient in getting there, no reason you can't do either. Biggest mistakes people make is training too hard, too fast. And certainly when I was your age I felt somewhat invincible. So while I wasn't interested in those kinds of distance, I can tell you for sure I would probably have over done it, so be smarter than me :) Otherwise it's great that you are interested in this and wish you the absolute best of luck!
@JJ-pp6tz
@JJ-pp6tz 2 года назад
@@scriptosaurusrex Thank you for the insight, man! I've done 3 sprint triathlons and was training for the hotter than hell 100 mile cycling race. I unfortunately got sick a few weeks prior and didn't recover in time. So now I've just been doing some small runs and bike rides. and looking for a new goal. And I think what led to me getting sick is that I was teaching basketball camps 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, and biking 85 miles 3 times a week along with other workouts. I was starting to feel over-trained as you mentioned.
