My former high school Video Productions teacher, Tom Friedman, actually wrote the script for this film! No lie. (at 0:49 you can see his name in the credits). He detested the final product, and wanted to disown the film ( aka credit himself as Alan Smithee), but unfortunately, since he wasn't a member of the Writers Guild ( or any union for that matter), his request was rejected. He had a poster of the film in his classroom, and is still proud of the script, claiming "bad acting" ruined his film. Friedman actually envisioned this film to be a big budget feature, akin to something like Close Encounters. Instead, it went the low budget route.

Did he have an idea of what to do for "The Sequel"?
@OakViewFilms
@OakViewFilms 6 лет назад
Actually, he never intended to make a sequel. It's something the studio wanted, so he wrote in the cliffhangar. But according to him, he wanted this film to be one and done, and thus had never thought of an idea for a sequel.

Oh right lol. Bloody studios. So his script originally had a definitive ending then?

OMFG I CAN'T BREATHE! "Yes, as a matter of fact, you've been getting away with murder... Well the game is over ... and as soon as I call Captain Plumb-er ... you'll be going to jail and I'll have what I deserve." Everything about it is hilarious.

Who in the name of all the gods and goddesses was that asshole supposed to be? He has the worst delivery ever - even worse than STARCRASH's "They found One DAMNED Survivor!" I'm guessing he's a rival professor of some kind, or a mid-level university administrator who really REALLY hates Ben Murphy's character.... EDIT: Yep, he's someone else at the university - his character's name is "Dr. Bruce Serrano", and he's played by Sam Chew Jr. What's even harder to believe is that he was a working actor and announcer (he did narration for Discovery Channel's Shark Week program!), and is now an acting teacher in Philadelphia!

Funny I haven't thought about it since but I can remember the entire thing. Only 3 min into this vid, can't wait to see where it goes. Never knew they did it on MST3K, I'm gonna hafta look it up.

9:20 The movie was shot at California State University Northridge (one of 23 CSU campuses in California, only one of which is the 'Los Angeles' campus). The establishing shot at 1:00 is of the Oviatt Library which is used in many movies and TV shows, such as Star Trek as the Star Fleet Academy. I wonder if someone on the crew graduated from the film school there? Great episode as always!

Another great video. This might be out of your wheelhouse but.....as a British person (we don't have unions here), maybe you could do a video explaining what 'unions'/'teamsters' are in the film industry, why they exist, how they operate, what happens if you try to shoot a 'non-union' movie and why you might want to etc? I bet there's years worth of stories of teamsters doing shady dealings to try and disrupt non-union movies....!!
@andykww
@andykww 5 лет назад
We do have unions in the UK, and within the British film and TV industry. BECTU for crew, EQUITY and PACT for talent. Unions exist to ensure fair pay, fairness, ideal working conditions, and offer health insurance. Because film and TV isn't like other jobs, it's hard to standardize and regulate conditions, and crew and talent have been taken advantage of in the past. An example of what union can do, back in the old days producers used to impress their girlfriends by giving them writing credit on a movie after giving a suggestion. As a writer, you'd obviously be annoyed that after months (maybe years) of work, some of your pay and credit is going to a non-writer for making a random suggestion that may not better the movie. Unions exist to ensure such unfairness don't happen. Now, to get credit, you have to alter at least 30% of the script in order to obtain a writing credit in addition to the original writer.
@andykww
@andykww 5 лет назад
Unions were initially formed by talent/crew coming together and refusing to work (go on strike) until agreements are in place for fairness and standardized pay. Now all major productions companies are unionized and must stick to rules like giving crew 10 hour breaks between shoot days so they can rest and sleep, offering overtime pay after 10 hours of continuous work, paying a minimum wage, offering residual deals if a movie turns a profit etc. Non-union projects are common due to budget, since some productions can't offer minimum wage, and allow of people work for free, possibly in hazardous conditions without insurance and permits. Filming is already expensive, but making a unionized shoot increases the budget significantly since everyone has to be properly paid and insured and permits are signed.

The European version of the MST3K episode does have the nude scene only the projector goes wrong so it's all out of focus, causing them to complain. This happened in a few episodes and was a bit of a running joke. Although seemingly cut from the US versions of episodes and the versions of these episodes on Netflix.

You dont need protective gear during an X-ray. The amount of radiation used in X-rays is quite low and is in fact lower than the amount you would get from flying on a plane that goes to usual height. The problem only occurs to X-ray workers who would get the same doze hundreds of times a day x-raying all the people that need it, which is why they leave the room.
