1985 is coming August 30th - Stay frosty.

1984 was the best year ever. I was a freshman in high school and a new girl moved into town. 7 years later we got married and had 5 children, just celebrated 29 years of marriage.

One of the greatest years for cinema: Ghostbusters, Terminator, Karate Kid, Gremlins, NeverEnding Story, Temple of Doom, Beverly Hills Cop, Footloose, This Is Spinal Tap, Romancing the Stone, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Splash, The Natural, Red Dawn, Last Starfighter, Sixteen Candles, Top Secret, Purple Rain, Amadeus, Once Upon a Time in America, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, etc...

You forgot to mention the Eddie Murphy movie "Beverly Hills Cop" came out December 1st, 1984 and grossed $234 million. The soundtrack sold 4 million copies. How could you forget that blockbuster?

If you were a kid in the 80's you were blessed. Great times, the mall, arcade, VHS, recording tv shows for the first time. My dad had a car cell phone in '85. Love was in the air.

Such an eventful year. This was also the summer of Michael Jackson’s Victory Tour. Prince had just released his Purple Rain album. Break Dancing was peaking, as a popular form of dance. The Karate Kid was released in theaters; and on a very dubious note, the San Ysidro McDonalds Massacre had shocked the nation. And there was a little known artist named Madonna who released “Like a Virgin”

On Dec. 19, 1984, my brother (4 years my senior) died due to lymphoma. He has just turned 26 on Dec. 7th. He will always live in our hearts and good memories.

A lot of history packed into January 84. Ah memories.

Dear Weird History, This Timeline series has already produced, in my opinion, by far your best videos ever. I think you should consider doing another one for the 70s (or 90s, or whatever era really) once the '80s is up. I'm enjoying this a ton, and I'm sure others are too. It is extremely difficult to duplicate a year like 1984. The news, sports, movies, TV shows, and the music that was playing on everybody's radios. You just can't duplicate such a year like 1984.

Fun story - My parents owned the very first "mini-van" sold in the central PA area. For many months, people would come out of the woodwork to talk to us and ask us what it was. Quite often, my father would give tours of the inside to wide-eyed people. No one had ever seen such a thing. Sometimes he would remove a seat in the middle of a parking lot to demonstrate.

I didn’t hear anything about Prince and “Purple Rain”, did I miss that part???!!!

1984 is on of those years in my life that makes me feel so nostalgic and wish it where possible to go back in time and live that year all over again🥺❤️🥰

I love how Weird History does a whole series on the 1980s. Then asks us to suggest more about the 1980s so he can continue it. His awesome 80s production values show a love of the Best Decade.

I loved the 80s, had my children, raised them to a small Texas town, baseball, football, and we had the best music ever!

I could watch these 80s episodes over and over ...a truly amazing decade unlike any other. I wish you guys would do more comprehensive episodes of eachyear. an hour or two per year to really get into the feeling of each year.. you guys do such a great job with these I'm sure you'd hit it out of the park with more expanded episodes. .

Honestly I really hate you guys didn't talk about Purple Rain, that album played a huge role in the creation of the parental advisory sticker, sat atop the billboard charts for 24 weeks and won an academy award. 1984 was the year of the purple one and to not mention Prince kinda sucks I mean the guy played a huge role in the sound of the 80's and even the culture from his rivalry with MJ to his famous relationships he had in the 80's and we haven't even mentioned the impact his albums had during the decade, I hope you guys bring him up more often next time because you can't talk about the 80's and not mention Prince because he was right there with Michael and Madonna changing the game and influencing the new generation of artists that would come after them.

I think 1984 was the first year of the 80s that was truly, 100% 80s, as previous years seem to have had a 70s influence on them still. I was 4/5 in 1984, and some of my biggest memories of that year were Bruce Springsteen (still one of my favorite musicians), mini vans, the Olympics, McDonalds being THE cultural icon and people wearing Where's the Beef? t-shirts.

Fun Fact: When they filmed the recording session and video of "Do they know it's christmas", George Michael just came back home from the shooting of "Last Christmas". Flying home and basically instantly joining the other musicians in the studio. This man really was a trooper. We lost him way too soon :'(

My 1984 was a nightmare. It was the most scariest year ever. I found my self in civil war in Africa at young age.

PLEASE, PLEASE, MORE Timelines from the 80's! Then tackle the 70"s? Finally, watching 60's-70's cartoon intro's & endings; I was surpised by how many commercials aimed at kids that featured guns. I seemed to noticec that out of every 4 commercial breaks, 3 would feature sometype of game that involved guns. I grew up around guns and learned a healthy respect fot them. But in todays culture, people would be blown away by the amount of harmless gun ad's aimed at us kids at the time. Having a gun, even a toy gun seemed just American as apple pie. Boy, have things changed! Thanks for all you do!

There was NO decade like the '80s. So many reasons why. The music (Ozzy, Def Leppard, Michael Jackson), the sports (Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, 84 Olympics), the politics (Reagan winning 49/50 states, the Berlin wall teardown), the movies (Terminator), etc. There was just no time like it. The eighties ruled. I turned 12 in 1980, so I spent my entire teenage years in the '80s.

I love this series. They should go as far back as possible. 1900's and up.

I remember "The Transformers" premier...lol. Geeeezus, I was 10. Best thing about being born in the 70s was growing-up in the 80s.

1984 was the year that I graduated from Chatsworth High School. I had a great time! I'll never forget how sad I was. I cried because I knew that it would be the last time that I would ever see most of my friends. Forty years later, I could say that I was right. PURPLE RAIN the film and the album were also released and forever changed my life. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles during a time when the Valley was iconic ( see Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Valley Girl). I was also spending time in the place of my birth NYC and that was during the infancy of Hip-Hop culture and music. A great time to be young!

Whenever I turn on a Weird History video and it's not this guy's voice, I feel let down.
