The old ones were painted in the 19th century so they’re over-romanticised. But old French kings look so attractive and intelligent in these 19th century paintings, but then you get to the actual real paintings of French kings and they are not so attractive.
@@joellaz9836 forgive me for the question but I am extremely curious; what exactly makes a painting romanticized because I get confused about the term.
@@ictoan5966 well nope since we start much sooner with clovis, who is the actual first king of the franks. With the merovingians. The carolingians are one of the three dynasties of our kings : merovingians, Carolingians, Capetians.
@MOHAMAD DANISH KOO KAH MAN BIN MOHD DANIAL KOO Moe Go study French history, dude. Louis XVI did not fuck France. Before opening your mouth, do some research.

Kings and emperors were thought as god-like beings who have been chosen by God, which is probably why they are drawn as being divine and are always surrunded by crosses
@@majorkalashinikov1277 Lets be honest. Prussia steamrolled Denmark, a not actually that weak of a power, for breakfast. Then proceeded to steamroll Austria, which had been the(!) dominant power in all of German speaking lands (it's called "Deutscher Krieg" in Germany for a reason) and then France was the supper that was left on the table.
Just remember to pay Louis XVI. Oops, the Americans didn't repay the French, bankrupts it further more, and even inspired the French people to do revolution cut off Louis XVI's head.
@@olidojosephd.9054 France did the Revolution all on their own cuz the middle class & lower class French got very educated & got tired of monarchy & elites. To be honest a lot of countries were bankrupt from wars all in history. The brits literally bankrupted themselves fighting the Seven year war against France in North America. Prussia war, ww1, WW2 , Soviets/Russia....I can go on and on. Atleast France gets a tittle if having won the most battles & having high rank General like Napoleon Bonaparte. Pick Up a book kid.
@@skipthehassle3649 The least they could've done was support the Bourbons in the revolution but that didn't happen they just had a few isolated political figures pointing out the brutality of the revolution and how they shouldn't compare themselves to them.
@@olidojosephd.9054 It was coming anyway. Especially with France's failures in the Seven Years war, France was the number one loser in Europe after that.
Louis the stutterer Charles the fat Charles the bald The simple The lazy.... Lol imagine calling our leaders like they used to do.
The rivalry is between France and England. We Scots never stopped being allies with the French. Sure, the English made us declare the Auld Alliance to be over, but we never meant it. And I know that the French themselves still consider the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France to still be active.

Love these timelines! I like them for both my own enjoyment and to play for my students during homeroom. As well as more European countries, I was wondering if you had the interest or background to tackle Asian countries with long histories like China and Japan or possibly Egypt or African kingdoms? Great stuff!
2002: Chirac re-elected cause nobody wanted Jean-Marie Le Pen 2007: Sarkozy elected for his program 2012: Hollande elected because everybody hated Sarkozy 2017: Macron elected because the left disappeared and the right was in a financial scandal The lesson is: in France, you don't vote *for* a President, you vote *against* another one.
Eh to each his own. Far as we know, the power structure before Napoleon was Pressuring the poor and shoving it in their faces. Then they rise up and become the same overpowering rule, and then Napoleon is released from that expulsion. He was a master and has the most battles one of all time. He even did not kill the King of Austro-Germany, only dethroned him during his reign.
The most depressing was the map they showed of the second empire. I know that this is what the country looked like at their end but ......... this map makes it look like Prussia annexed all of the North when in fact it merely occupied it and only took Alsace-Moselle, not everything up to Paris
Stop with Napoleon, he certainly did a lot, but compared to the kings of France, he did not do as much. As if the history of France boiled down to Napoleon. The Carolingians and Capetians did more than he did.
watching this video I just feel sad, from those good old times of kings and emperors, a time when civilizations were being born with their kingdoms, medieval times when everything was new, today the human being has already discovered everything he could and we are moving towards the end. sad to know that those ancient times of the beginning of the medieval world will never come back
Uhm yeah, that would be useless and thoroughly confusing. First you must define what rulers since there are many interpretations when it comes to Rome and second, which roman empire are you referring to? Yes, there are two, some would say three. I guess you don't know much about ancient rome.
@@flybeep1661 easy, Just dont show a seperate empire. Both rulers, 1 empire with a boundary of some sort. East and west together. Until the fall of Constantinople.
@@davidebassi8405 Yes. The Byzantine empire was a name the renaissance gave them because they loved antiquity. They couldnt possibly bear to see a rome go through the middle ages. After the barbaric invasions of the western roman empire, the eastern portion of the roman empire lived on until the fall of constantinople.
France is just an amazing, beautiful country with a great civilization and rich history, with great scientists, writers, thinkers, Salut à vous d'Algérie !

The poor boy never knew he was King. Also there is a conspiracy theory stating that he may has been poisoned by his uncle, Philippe V. This is part of the plot of the novel Les Rois maudits (The Accursed Kings).
Petain is showed in 1942 before Torch and during the operation that led to the occupation of the Free Zone. Napoleon is showed in 1815 after he came back to France
Fun Fact: Jean I of France was king right when he was born and monarchs usually end their reign by dying so Jean I was King of France his entire life but also had the shortest reign with only 5 days so he lived up to 5 days old sadly.
Imagen go back in time and give Clovis the first the power of Engine, rifles, canons and TNT and give him the map of where are the biggest spots where he can have gold silver and jewels and also give him the map of where he can find the American Continent and what he can do in that land.
