Man. I bought a quad and am tearing it apart right now. New fluids, spark plug, cleaning the carburetor and I need to re jet it. I’ve also wanted to check the valves and I need to do the chain tensioner. Mine has a knock sound lol.
Sounds like u got some work to do haha to get to the chain and tensioner u can get away without removing head tho just side cover and valve cover needs to be removed anyway for valves to be checked but after doing it 30 times I can do it in like 10 min it's not that bad the knock from where is coming the chain ur thinking?
Would you rather run a little bit looser tolerance, but in spec than a little bit tighter tolerance? Ive heard from the giy that built mine he likes to run on the loose end so it dont damage the valves as quick. But down side is its a little noisy. Its a 04 ltz 400 Athena 440 kit. Stock cams, stock carb just tuned to the air filter and exhaust
im finally getting around to putin my z back together, itsbeen sitting apart for 10 years. I dont want to split the case but i might have to checkfor rust and debris.
You should try to just blow it all out but ya it would prolly be best to split it and make sure everything is good if it's one thing I learned is do it now befor you have to redo it all again
@@kikemotors6138 yeah for sure im just not completely comfortable with the all the tiny peices that come out when you split the case. also do you happen to have any spare bolts or parts from your builds? that you may be willing to sell?
Hey my shims fell out didn't get to mark them got the piston in and bore kit but I'm up to the clearance of valves do you think the 320s and 318 shim went on ex side and 290 on other or are the 290s on the ex side lol I wanna try get it close to what it was before I measure
My kfx got swamped with gas in oil. Assuming it was from cheap aftermarket carb so i put stock back on and drained all oil and put new oil/filter in. It happened while riding, just started bogging and kept shutting off and having a hard time turning over. I brought it home and got it started multiple times but following day i go out and nothing. It will crank and crank and crank but wont turnover. Spark is fine, battery is fine, fuel seems to be fine. But should spark plug be soaked when pulling out? Mine was a tiny bit moist not wet when i pulled it. I tried push starting it also and it wouldnt turnover still. Do you have an idea of what could be wrong? Is it a timing or valve issue or cdi? Im lost as i dont mess with atvs much. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
First off is the battery good??Did you check your starter solenoid under the seat ? Starter can be jumped with a battery directly make sure turns over or turn over the engine by hand make sure it's not locked the cover is on left side
@@kikemotors6138 oh shit you replayed that made me happy I'm a follower now yea my bike sat for 12 year my piston ring got stuck after I put in my first clutch and didn't fill crank only oil tank it didn't draw so the rings got stuck I think the piston and sleeve was fine I got 434 kit I ordered and my shims fell out over night wile I had it sitting sideways like dumbdumb
@@thcfoeyogrammaspunkpunk7916 right on man thanks for the sub! But yea sounds like you got a good start but shims you can find any motorcycle store or a ride now there like 5$ each or you can order a set from Amazon for 80$ with a bunch of sizes with sets of three
