👇👇MD MERCH CLICK HERE👇👇: FULL SHOP: md-fish-tanks.creator-spring.com It was time to upgrade Timmy's tank. His previous aquarium was not in a good place for maintenance and had electrics around it. I came up with an idea for using house plants to add extra filtration and colour pop. He seems to love it! Apart from the heating situation This is an awesome tank But the heat light needs to be on 12 hours a day As it’s the only from of heat and uvb he will receive
I've always wanted a turtle as a pet, but after doing some research on what kind of environment they need, I realized that I can't maintain that kind of setup. So I REALLY enjoy watching you work on Timmy's tank. 😁🐢
Looks amazing for little Timmy! Just a heads-up, mercury vapour bulbs need to be mounted vertically for them to work properly, so hanging from the ceiling or a right-angle lamp mount might be better. Also watch out for Timmy going after the riparian plants - those are toxic to turtles and musks are known to try anything!
13:52 - In my experience the mist / fog kills all the plants, it basically makes them melt when it touches them. Also to note that if you touch the fogger / mister it gives you an electric shock, I hope Timmy does not go near it. Good Build, Keep up the good work. Cheers.
This has to be my favorite Timmy set up so far! I love the palludarium-style layouts. There's just something so cool about the terrestrial plants coming out from the back
Think this is the best Timmy have had so far❤ Think this little creature must feel safe on the land part, from all the lovely green. Would be so much fun to see him crawling around 🥰
What a great set up for Timmy! It looks amazing, I love the “waterfall” feature and the Peace Lilies and Pothos look so good. The fogger thing is cool. Excellent tank, excellent video. Thanks MD.
I set up my turtle Colby's tank at the end of February. Was having issues with algae and changed the light timer to 8 hours and his lights are on in the evening since that's when I'm at my desk next to his tank. The plants I have are mostly Anubias and Crypts, since he tends to break any stem plants by resting on them. Also added 3 Siamese algae eaters and they have grown so chunky just from cleaning up Colby's leftovers. Since moving my turtle into my bedroom, he has become so much more obsessed with me than before 😊🐢 turtles really act like aquatic puppies, I love them so much. It's super interesting to see the difference in husbandry between Timmy and Colby. Colby is a map turtle and comes from quick moving streams and rivers , so he likes deeper water with obstacles to climb over. His breed is described as a water walker so they walk along the bottom instead of swimming. Very different from the bog-like setup for Timmy.
What a fantastic tank, I've followed you for a while now and based some of my tanks on your advice, only tropical but now I need to convince the wife we need a tank for a turtle, love it Cheers Bob.
Timmy looks happy with his new digs. Love the design! I'm a little worried about the smaller stand though. I was told that all four corners had to be supported because that's where the seams are. I hope the tank will be ok with the over hanging edges.
Sick setup! Timmy is a lucky turtle to have such a good turtle dad. The wife and I are considering getting a musk turtle. They’re such fun little dudes.
I guess it depends on what tutle it is. I had a softback freshwater turtle as a child, it had a pig nose and spent ALL the time under water. When it was small it left fish alone but as it got older it got an appetite for fish bigger than itself so we couldn't keep it in the common tank. After that we kept it in a bigger tank with lot bigger native fish and it lived alongside those for many years until we donated it to a zoo-thing because it was imported illegally which I later found out.
@@huldu I think that all just goes to say if you care about the fish at all they probably shouldn't be in with the turtle. I had red eared sliders and a river cooter. They were good with the fish for a long time and then they pretty quickly all got massacred. There was at least one feeder fish that they must have decided was their buddy and lived for several years...
In the beginning of each video you can show us putting on your house shoes, then a sweater( aka jumper) then greet the postman delivering the daily mail. Reference American PBS Tv show Mr Rodger’s neighborhood.
Timmy! Love when he gets in the videos! This is just like me with my hamster enclosure because Im always trying to improve and rearrange things to make it even better! Lucky Timmy!
Small turtles (mud & musk) are the only turtles feasible to keep in aquariums (with fast moving fish.) Most aquatic species quickly outgrow aquarium systems and require either a huge tank (with lots of maintenance,) a kiddie pool or an outdoor pond -the pond being best option. There are a couple other small US species like spotted & bog turtles suitable, however the former are strictly regulated in each state and the latter is endangered on CITES. Neither can be exported. Because they’re small and colorful they were over-collected up through the mid-1900s for the pet trade. I’m happy Timmy now has a larger land area in a paludarium to explore & a UV A-B bulb to bask under. *Always check that a plant is “pet safe” before using. Also, UV A-B bulbs are required for keeping reptiles indoors or they will develop MBD -metabolic bone disease. While expensive these bulbs must be replaced every 6-8 months.* _Timmy, the brilliant derp!_ 😂
I NEED a video of Timmy emerging from under the mist up to the basking area. Would be so cute and funny to see his little head popping up from the mist 😂
Be careful with the ultrasonic mist maker. If you put your finger in the water stream you’ll feel what seems to be a shock. Could pose a risk to the inhabitants.
