@ConversationChamber Both Karen and Andrea played Tina as making mistakes, but having a big heart, and being vulnerable - Tina had become a lot softer in Andrea's last year and Karen kept that up. The first problem was when Tina just became a supporting player to the Cain sideshow, but it didn't get really bad until Krista and then when the Lord family was dismantled to prop Todd 24/7. Tina became irrelevant.
Took some time but This version of Tina grew on me. Evans was definitely a tough act to follow and will 4ever be THE TINA hands down. But I did fall for this Tina and Cain! They were fun to watch. Now that next Tina, the one from Guiding Light....Blah😕
I look back, as I was watching the show as far back as 1980, and I will admit I was very sad when Andrea Evans left the show. "La Evans" was going to be a tough act to follow; because she had been on the show, was it maybe six years up until that point? You grew so fond of her, and everything she had done up until that point. But Karen Witter, she did a nice job too. She got kudos as the recast, I know in Digest, they gave her a lot of support. I feel Witter actually worked out, sustained the legacy of Tina. I remembered shortly after, James DePaiva (Max), Fiona Hutchinson (Gabrielle) and Jessica Tuck (Megan), Joe Lando (Jake) and Jon Loprieno (Cord) left...and they were all such epic characters in their right; and pretty much the Llanview thirtysomething, each from core families...so I feel that always had an impact on my view of the show.
Totally agree Timothy, she actually came back, I think 2008, or 2009, and that got me started watching ONE LIFE again until the last broadcast (and then I watched the internet version). I had grown so fond of the canvas of characters and the nods to history - even though a lot of the epic history was retooled for story line purposes - that I wasn't too fond of.
Definitely felt bad when Robin Strasser left the program, my memories of her went back further than Andrea Evans. I only remembered Andrea Evans when she came back to the show in 1984. But again, Robin returned years later. Otherwise, I appreciated Elaine Princi, really I did.
Erik Andrus Elaine was very good too in the role she could have passed as a sister for Dorian. I did see an old clip from before Robin first came to the show and Claire Malis was in the role and then before her the first person to play Dorian was Nancy Pinkerton. She was really mean and evil, lol.
I remember watching this in Kindergarten. My mom was shocked when there was a new Tina. She wasn’t the original but was really good. Andrea was best but Karen was a bit of a 10. 👍🥵
Yeah same with the old bearded guy that was Asa's butler. Then I think Nigel came along. Come to think of it, that first guy might've been Nigel's father?
Despite Viki's fake smiles and false greetings, Viki is _PISSED_ that Tina is back. And Cord is indignant, especially now that he has to once again share CJ with Tina. And Tina has an agenda she's keeping well-hidden behind her false excuse of "just dropping in to see CJ again," mainly getting Cord back and getting revenge on Gabrielle.
I grew to like Karen as Tina, didn't think that was possible after Andrea. I thought her and Cain were a cute couple, but Andrea was the best Tina. No others compare. And Cord, oh my god. I had the hugest crush on his cute self!
This scene made no sense. Why the hell is Tina apologizes to Cord for showing up to HER home? She has more right to be there than he does. I also found it to be stupid that everyone referred to the house as Vicky's. Victor Lord built the house for all of his children and that includes Tina. It's her house just as much as Vicky's because they are both his heirs.
It was hard for me when Andrea Evans left and Karen Writter took over the role. Her clothes always looked to big for her :-). However, I did like her. I thgt she turned out to be a better recast than any others on oltl.
And I hated how she said her lines. She was very green on this show. I think aside from bit parts in movies this was her first real acting job and she never captured who Tina was. Andrea played Tina as a vixen who was flighty but a born schemer. Karen played her as an airhead. But she was a tad better than Krista Tesreau who was playing Mindy on OLTL instead of Tina Lord Roberts.
that's not why it wasn't working--they stopped writing for her b/c the DID storyline ended. John Loproeno wanted to play out the romance again with tesreau. He and witter could not get along.
Nobody played Tina Clayton Lord Roberts et al, like THEE Andrea Fucking Evans! Periodt. All the others were trash. Especially Karen Witter. I stopped watching after she came on cause I couldn’t stand seeing anyone play that role other than AE! 😒
Vicky becoming mayor was a joke.😆 One of her personalities was mayor the others a dude street walker a librarian....I loved the bat shit crazy soaps of yesteryear.🦇 😁
John Loprieno made those comments himself in a Soap Opera digest interview. Also, if you look at scenes with him and witter before he left then before she left you cna see that there is tension between the two of them. Witter was just rotten in the role
I remember reading that he was ready to leave the show and she came on super excited because she never been on a SOAP before. She thought he lack of enthusiasm was about not liking her and so they clashed. But I think John also missed Andrea Evans b/c they were friends. But he was not up for playing another round of falling for Tina's lies and games. I do get that but that is also on him because he knew who/what she was when he pursued and married her.
What Mooki said is much more accurate than anything Mr Delidude posts on RU-vid. Loprieno leaving had nothing to do with "hating" Karen Witter. (Let's not forget, he returned 9 months later to be front & center in a Cord-Tina-Cain triangle with her.) The man needed a break from Cord Roberts and OLTL, and he took it.
