The S12 dust canister is a little on the small side. We compare it to the dust canister size of the Dyson V8, the Dyson V10, and the Dyson V11.
We also find that the pre-motor filter needs fairly frequent cleaning - at least more frequently than some of the other cordless vacuums we have.
It’s nice that both S12 batteries can be charged in the included wall mount, however there is no way to charge the batteries without using the wall mount. You cannot plug the charger into the battery or the vacuum.
When you release the trigger the vacuum power always returns to automatic. When you prefer a power other than automatic this can be frustrating as you have to either lock the trigger in place or always manually reset the power (see this in the video).
The S12 just doesn’t maneuver as well as the Dyson cordless machines. The S12 doesn’t turn tightly and it will sometimes continue to move a little forward when you are turning it. All-in-all the movement isn’t that bad but it is not a precise as some other vacuums we’ve tested.
This is a heftier machine than units like the Dyson V7/V8/V10. It weighs about the same as the Dyson V11 - which is the heaviest of the Dyson stick vacs. This is ok but if you think you are getting a super lightweight stick vac this is not the case.
The S12 is a pricey machine. It is typically between $500 and $600 USD.
