I watching this while waiting on one of mine to get on with it. She was due yesterday and she delights in getting me wound up. I can see Tinkerbell going over the 'Kidding Doe's Code of Honor' in her head. Rule #2. "Midwives" must reach the babbling fool status before you kid out. Bloodshot eyes, tangled hair and the inability to form a sentence means the time is getting close.

You can say that again! lol I think I was starting to be delusional from not having any sleep. I’ve only delivered babies a couple of times so this is all still new to me. To be honest I was scared to death when I couldn’t get the umbilical cord to detach. I’ve never had that happen before. Have you ever had that happen to you? Plus the second baby was born with poop all over it. I did some research but it says 10 different things that could have caused it. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated! You are definitely more experienced than I am! So stressful!

@@thepamperedpetfarmette7221 I know that sometimes the babies can clear the meconium before birth so I think that's normal, if a bit icky. I've never had the umbilical cord not break so that is a mystery, unless it just seemed tougher because you were so stressed. And speaking of being more experienced, I don't think we ever know enough! The doe I was waiting on kidded last night after a miserable long labor where the first kid (of triplets) was trying to come out tail first. I couldn't get in far enough to get his legs back and he wasn't going to come on his own. She had been pushing for almost 3 hours. I had to call a friend with smaller arms than me to fish him out and it was terrifying and painful for the doe and me! This morning, she is eating, drinking, feeding the kids but doesn't really want to walk around so I am still worried. Just when you think you have a handle on things, they throw something else at you. I think you did great!

@@thepamperedpetfarmette7221 Well, I don't know where my first response went but I'll try again. I have heard that sometimes they can clear the meconium while still inside, so I think it's normal if a bit icky. I haven't heard of the cord not breaking but it may have seemed tougher because you were so stressed out. As far as being more experienced, I probably know just enough to be dangerous, lol! Even the most experienced goat breeders will run into something new. The doe I was waiting on went into labor last night and it was miserable and scary. She was pushing for almost 3 hours. Her first (of three) was trying to come out tail first and was stuck. I couldn't get in far enough to get his hind legs and bring them forward and she wasn't going to get him out herself. I had to call a friend with smaller arms than mine to go in and fish him out. It was terrifying and painful for the doe and I wasn't having any fun either. This morning, she was eating, drinking, and taking care of her littles but still doesn't want to walk much so I am still worried. This same thing happened with a different doe last year, but the first one coming out backwards was a runt and it was easier for me to push him back in and get his legs behind him. Just goes to show you, even when you've seen it, you still haven't seen it! I think you did just fine with Tinkerbell.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I saw your reply before they could delete it! So HA YT! 3 hrs delivering! I would have freaked out and called the Vet. lol Thank goodness your friend was able to come and help you. You are right about the Meconium. I talked to the Vet and she said in our case it was due to stress. Tinkerbell is ok and thankfully not having any issues. She was in a lot of pain afterwards so I gave her a shot of Banamine and that really helped.
