Sorry to hear about your shoulders David. You seem to be such a nice guy, so I feel sorry for you. Your new valvecover looks fantastic, like the rest of the car, and all your other cars 👍😎
I know the feeling about the bike. I've got a Yamaha Roadliner 1900 that I am getting ready to go to a new home. My 67 year old knees have a hard time holding it up. It weighs over 900 pounds empty. But, I do have a back up bike. It's a Honda Shadow 750. A friend and I rode from Arkansas to California via Route 66. Of course that was 21 years ago. I personally like the Offey valve cover. I used to be a purist on these cars, never wanting to put aftermarket stuff on them. Now I'm more inclined to personalize them. Enjoy your outings the next couple of weekends. It's 102°F with 68% humidity here today so I decided not to go to a local car show today. The older I get, the harder the heat is on me.
Yes, that was the other thing with the Harley…I think it’s around 850…with my shoulders, if it ever started to go over, I’d have a hard time keeping it upright! Beautiful day here today, about 72 F. Perfect driving weather
Hey Tush, sorry to hear about the bike decision and your shoulder issues. Sounds like you made the right decision though. Better to spare yourself the angst of looking at a bike that gathers dust and isn't ridden...(ask me how I know). Also, definitely keep the Offenhauser! Looks great. Cheers!
Sad day on the bike front. But arrived at the same conclusion a few years ago after touring Europe for many years I found I was doing less and less mileage as I had the classic cars first a Daimler SP250 then my 3a that the racing has taken over. That’s a nice replacement rocker cover. Like me - our cars our rules. Keep up with the physio on the shoulder I have a re- occurring “frozen” shoulder painful and frustrating. Keep smiling you are doing the right thing 👍
Hi Dave, I’m 68 now so i have a few years on you but I ripped my right rotator cuff back in February 20 doing some building work at home. Really painful and broken sleep patterns so had to give up my regular team play badminton matches. Nothing to do but rest and heal which finally took almost twenty months. Now fully recovered 100% but the wait has been tough!
...Kudos on the valve cover, always liked Offenhauser....I don't know if you are aware of this, but the early TR4 has the same temp gauge as the TR3 except it's electric....I have a NOS unit but never bought the sender (for electric) because my TR3A is still pos. ground and I wasn't sure it would work.....Besides, the SW temp gauge I installed in the early '70s still works fine....If I ever convert to neg. ground, then I'll use it...I'm starting to consider an alternator and better head/running lights, but who knows, why change now?.....Going to a TR4 unit might be less expensive than having the bulb setup rebuilt.....Several years ago you could buy rebuilt units for about $75, but not any more......Just another option if you're pos. ground...............John(west coast, Can.) (PS, do the cast valve covers quieten valve noise? ...Not that mine are noisy, but just wondering....)
Hi John, Thank You. Yes, I know some have gone with the electric gauge. I’m going to see what a rebuild of my broken one will be…I suspect it will be about $200 Canadian at least….I’ve done the alternator conversion on mine and am quite happy with it. I think the cast covers might be slightly quieter.
Sad to see the bike go, but I know how it is. I had to stop riding almost 10 years ago. I don't really like the idea of an Offenhauser cover on a TR, but I sure like the looks of it. I saw one on the video of the show you went to recently and immediately like the looks of it. That the temp gauge worked is really a bit of luck. Nice one. Thanks for the update!
That Offy looks fantastic, and really suits the personality of the Triumph especially given it year. Great score! A TriumphTune cover just went for over $200 on Ebay, IIRC, and I just couldn't justify it. Want one badly though like you did with the Offy. Oh, and it sucks to get old- my shoulders are messed up also, and it affects my job at work. Has there been discussion of surgery?
Hi Dave, I recall having a similar old temperature gauge (I think from an old late fifties Morris) that I fitted to an early Mini Cooper back in the day, I’m pretty sure at the time my Dad said the tube was a mercury filled unit on that one….
Sorry to hear about your rotator cuffs, very painful indeed!! It’s great when things work and fitting goes well so well done with that gauge and the new cover looks great. Kind regards, Richard.
Not sorry to see the bike go . Did the same replaced my Triumph bikes with Tr series car 6 yrs ago and couldn't be happier reason is obviously the car drivers are worse every passing year.
David, at some point you will need to admit that you are getting too old or (too big for some of your toys). I hope the bike went to someone who will ride it. I like the loop de loop you made with the temp sensor tubing by #4 spark plug. No comment on the valve cover, both are fine. That TR3 is beautiful, I hope the "new" one looks as good.
Sorry to hear about the bike going, and your discomfort while riding. Hopefully some treatment/physio will get you back on two wheels at some point. The new valve cover and cap look great, a really nice upgrade.
I like the offenhauser cover better, I have a very similar cover to the one you had on the tr3 before, on my 62 tr4.. sorry to hear about the shoulder hopefully you will work things out. On the bike I know the feeling, I had an issue that got me off my Honda cbr100rr and track days.. we move on and look for opportunities to enjoy other things. I almost have my TR4 ready for the road, question I have the original steel wheels on but had to add a spacer because I installed willwood calipers in the front from good parts and they were touching on the inside. What rims would you put on a tr4? Would you keep them 15”?
Tough call on the rims…depends on the look you are going for…with the brake conversion, I suspect you are looking for a more modern look? Mini lights or panasports or something similar?
@@cheftush yes David looking for something more sporty and modern. Panasport and mini-lights would be options. Have you used John brown wheels from the UK? Thanks David.
I prefer the other valve cover. Offenhauser is out of place on this car. Sell me the other one for my 60 TR 4A. Mine is just an "original" black painted one. I don't think the crome one was "original" either.
