This happened when I was a kid. I remember my father, who had to get up at 4:30 am to go to work. He stayed up to watch this. We were all shocked at that because he never stayed up past 10:00pm on a week night.
@@jigokunokishi917if you’ve seen interviews, you’d see that Tiny Tim had no predictors reasons to marry Miss Vicki, and it was common at that time period for teens in their late teens to marry much older guys
@SophieSanwogou what you're saying it it was more acceptable to be a sexual predator at the time. Kinda like that Canadian kids gameshow host who would kiss little girls on the lips even if they didn't want him to back in the 80s. Fergie Oliver was his name. The audience laughed when he did it, but there's no denying it was a child predator
I was 10 years old at the time. My mom knew how much I wanted to see this. She woke me up and we watched it together. I had to go back to bed 'cause I had school the next day.
My dad grew up in the same neighborhood with Tiny Tim. I believe his name was Herb Khoury. My dad said he was always nice but as everyone knows, a little strange. Johnny is wonderful. So gracious. He was the best.
@@retroguy9494Bull. Can we please stop rewriting history? You can have your own opinion about his musical talents, but TinyTim was far from a “good and kind” man. Look up the Morton Downey interview where he states that he thinks he “had a right” to HIT his teen wife over adultery, and insisted on no birth control in their marriage due to him being a hardline Catholic, after which his wife has their daughter who he TOTALLY ABANDONED physically and financially. His teen wife who he married at nearly 4 years old said that the only she got out of the marriage was meeting some famous people. Not a standout fantastic individual in Tiny Tim.
@@DoctorShocktor You keep speaking of my 'rewriting history' but it's obvious to ME that you have some pretty tainted opinions about people when it comes to women. I'd really like to know where that comes from? Do you have some personal experience with spousal abuse or were you in some way abused as a child? When I said he was a 'good man' I was more referring to his charitable works and how he appreciated his fans. In fact, on the night he suffered his fatal heart attack he was in the middle of a song at a benefit concert for which he received no money. I never heard about him hitting his wife. In fact, after their marriage, the mostly lived apart until they divorced. So I don't know from what credible source you obtained your information on that one. Regarding his daughter Tulip, you say he abandoned her physically and financially. Yet, he fought for full custody of her and got it from a New York State court. This was reported by credible press sources at the time. So if anyone is 'rewriting history' it's YOU. Finally, regarding his Catholicism and birth control, what is so bad or wrong about that? I'm Catholic myself and that has always been the position of the Catholic Church. Although Pope Paul VI DID allow the 'rhythm method' for married couples and now quiet recently, while not changing the churches official position, Pope Francis told married couples in poor South American countries that it may be better to consider birth control rather than bring children into a world of poverty and starvation. Besides, Tiny Tim only had the ONE child. Plus his wives knew he was Catholic when they married him. While I am dead set against abortion, I have no problem with birth control even as a Catholic But what is so 'wrong' in your opinion about a married man being against birth control?
I wasn't born yet when the wedding happened; but I heard stories from different viewpoints. I guess Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky's backs were turned to show that their wedding was genuine and not merely publicity. From what I read, Johnny encouraged the wedding to take place on his show. If publicity was intended, I'd think it would be coming more from Johnny and the TV network--they definitely succeeded in their intentions. Thanks for uploading this in full.
I also remember watching this live. It was a school night, and I was supposed to be in bed, but I snuck out into the hallway to see it. When the ceremony was over, and they went to join Johnny, I snuck back to bed. I don’t think my parents knew, because nothing was mentioned the next morning.
I remember my mother had watched this when it aired and would talk about it from time to time for some years afterward. Of course, I wasn't allowed to stay up and see it so I had to wait 53 years to see it! When the doors first opened and that first girl came out I was like 'wait a minute...that's a little girl!' LOL I didn't know there would be an entire bridal party! Then when Miss Vickie first came out, I actually thought it was Jack Benny escorting her! 😂
Tiny Tim's song to his new bride is a sensitive, lovely vow. There have been all kinds of inventive and unique wedding ceremonies. It's too bad so many people choose to watch this and then criticize the wedding as "bizarre". This was a legitimate wedding with a real minister, and Johnny Carson treated the couple with respect and dignity.
I thought that because their backs were turned during the ceremony, both Tiny and Vicky showed that they weren't taking their wedding as a publicity stunt opportunity; they were taking it sincerely. You're right, there have been all kinds of unique wedding ceremonies. I guess that because this took place in the late 1960s, people tended to see uniqueness negatively.
@GlamGal 710 In most religions ceremonies, the bride and groom have their backs turned to the crowd. Least in Catholic/Christian ceremonies I've been in or gone to. It's the same reason the guests face the front of the church. The chuch considers it rude to turn the back away from the Alter, crosses or the Jesus on the cross hangs. Which is ironic because that's what the priest/pastor does the entire time they preach or lead a ceremony(has his back to those items) I don't think it was any more then that. Although the entire wedding was yuckie due to her age.. and his. He always skeeved me out
Watched it when they aired it and a few years later went on a date to see him perform. He gave me his autograph and was so nice, asked me my name and called me Miss Rose. Sad when I heard he passed away, now I wonder what happened to Miss Vickie
@@patriciahufft3103Yeah, she was HIT by Tiny Tim for adultery, impregnated and LEFT with the child and no support, and then she skitted around through a bunch more failed marriages. “Sweet”.
@@DoctorShocktor You mean she was hit for ADULTRY, capitalization is key here, lol. Adultery is no joke, that is the biggest break of trust and love you can do. Also, you must be real fun at parties.
It's really nice to see so many people writing very positively about Tiny Tim. When I first became aware of him, I thought he was just a freak, but then I watched his development and realised that he was probably a remarkable, great person. RIP
Can we please stop rewriting history? You can have your own opinion about his musical talents, but TinyTim was far from a “kind and gentle” man. @DoctorShocktor you act like that was his WHOLE personality. He made a mistake, but he also made good music that's all he'll be remembered for. That's it.
@@Wiseoldgeezer75so your only defense for beating his TEEN wife is that you enjoyed his music? That's not a very solid arguement there bud. I capitalized TEEN because I think it's creepy this dude married a TEEN even was 37. He was a creepy ephebophile loser
@@Gnarlvro I can't "sound like" anything if you haven't heard my voice. The monologues you're hearing from reading my comment come from your head, so think about that.
Back then many grown uos thought Tiny Tim was kind of a “crazy hippie” and thought he was very outrageous…. At least they did in my midwestern home town. This brings back wonderful memories. ☮️💟
I remember watching this live as a 14yo girl. 1969 was a HUGE YEAR in history. Chappaquiddick, Moon landing, Woodstock, Tate murders by Charlie Manson’s gang. This was a happy ending to a sad, wild year❤
I remember as a kid, my mom and dad letting me stay up to watch this wedding. My dad didn't know it but, Miss Vicki is his 2nd cousin through her mom and his grandpa. He's now gone, but he would've found it funny that he allowed us kids to stay up late for this rare time. I hope the best for Vicki and her family.
This is the first time of hearing about Tiny Tim's wedding let alone on TV. I thought the ceremony was sincere and sweet. The only thing I remember is his "tip toe through the tulips.
@@mariom6602 You just added 3 years to his age, but not 3 years to hers. He was 37. She was 4 months shy of her 18th birthday, and had parental consent. They had a daughter together.
I thought I was the only one thinking she looked similar to Karen! I think it's the hairstyle she has in this video especially. Karen Carpenter had a similar hairstyle in some of the Carpenters videos.
I was just four days old when this happened! My folks told this story on my 25th birthday in 1994 and they were in time to see it happened because we were discharged from the hospital the day before. Want to dedicate this in memory of my parents who were new to this country at that time!
Lol he knew he was setting tiny Tim up by asking him to get married on the show, he knew how the game is played. I think allot of people played him thinking he was a type of simple fool.
Those dresses! The late 1960s through mid 1970s really did have the greatest fashion of all time. Home decor, too. Those were the dsys. I wasn't there, but they were. If only I'd been around to revel in it all.
@@gm12551 Yea but you need to know the backstory on that one. Ed had attended a charity event earlier that afternoon where cocktails were served. He just had one too many there and when he showed up to tape the show in the late afternoon he was a bit wasted. It was only that one time. And it was FUNNY. Johnny noticed it and they just went with it and it was hysterical. Johnny, on the other hand, was a NASTY drunk. Which is one of the main reasons he gave up drinking.
He married a 17 year old child and was known to have an affinity for young girls but there are people in the comments defending him because he’s “strange”. Ugh.
He’s Jewish. Sanhedrin 54b. A few thousand sex offenders a year get moved to Israel with no charges for their Israeli citizenship gained by Jewish heritage.
I hope you will take into consideration that only as of recently in world history has it been taboo IN AMERICA for a 17 year old to marry, whereas in many cultures, including many cultures still today, 17 is quite a respectable age to marry. In fact many merry younger than 14. Arbitrarily put the age of adulthood at 18 and now 21... for reasons, does not mean it is inappropriate.
HERE IN CHILE (South America) we had a singer and composer just as "histrionic (exaggerated) as Tiny Tim and his name is Raúl "Florcita Motuda" Alarcón (that is: Raúl "Little flower Bulky" Alarcón) who has later been a representative of the republic from Chile (...I don't know how it came to be... (irony)); "Motuda" also resembles the singer of Freddie & The Dreamers (I'm telling you now) in his acting. Important songs by Florcita Motuda (see live on OTI, Festival de Viña or TV programs): "Pobrecito Mortal", "Final de Siglo", "Brevemente... gente", "Tírale un ajo", etc. (note: he sings in Spanish (our native language). Greetings from the end of the world.
I also watch The Wedding live and it was very beautiful two beautiful Spirits combining together to become one I am as happy for them now as I was then🎉♥️🌹🙏

I remember being sort of awake to watch this live with my parents on the family TV. I was 14 and went back to bed because of school the next day. This is the first time I have seen it in color instead of black&white. I was surprised about the color of the attendants’ outfits, and then realized it was typical of the time period.
14:18 With all the wickedness that exists today, such a man would have been much sought after. At least, I'm a sweet girl and I love people so pure, watching this video I realized I was born in the wrong era (I'm from 2000). ❤🙏 His music is spectacular, and I downloaded a compilation dedicated to him. Wherever you are, God bless you Tiny Tim. 🙏❤️
I've seen Tiny Tim on the Howard Stern Show. And he was always very truthful! The man had a fantastic memory! He could remember dates and times of events and baseball players . What made Tiny Tim unique was his falsetto voice. And his personality he always told the truth. And when he spoke he was interesting.
Johnny seemed genuinely touched. Are there any lip readers out there that can tell us what she and her dad were saying after they came through the doors?
My mom was 15 when she married my dad who was 36. Im not kidding. My brother was born when my mom was 16. I was born when 19. They were married for 27 years. He passed at age 64. It left her a widow at only 43 years old. 😊
The next morning people were at work talking about tiny Tim's wedding that only happens to very famous people and here was just a guy with a special talent that made thar happened
@@DoctorShocktor I am NOT 'rewriting' history. As I said, Ed drank socially and sure, one in a while he had one too many. But he was NOT the nasty and violent drink that Johnny was which is why Johnny eventually quit drinking altogether. It was part of the act. Like Dean Martin for instance portraying the constantly drunk alcoholic. Most people thought this was real. But in most of his performances, it was apple juice in his glass. Sure, like Ed, he drank socially like most of that generation. But he was not a drunk or an alcoholic. Although many sources state that after his son died, he DID in fact begin to drink to excess.
I read something on the Internet about Miss Vicky writing an autobiography and having a blog, but I can't find anything else about a blog she runs or a book she published. Does anyone know anything about this??
Didn’t know he got married. Milk and honey.. never tasted that together but I’m sure it was good together. This was such a sweet wedding to watch. Guess I’m gonna need to read up on them both. Vows taken together should be said before God, family and friends. They did just that!
Not everyone believes in a god, nor does everybody have family. So no, that's not how it "should" be. It was sweet, though. Hopefully you can learn to be more open-minded and respecting of different types of people. Take care.
I guess were all just turning the other cheek that she was 17, I mean it's cool because he's a celeb right? Honestly, don't care myself but if I got on facebook as a nobody and professed my love to the world over a 17 year old the cops would be knocking at my door waiting to arrest me. Hypocrisy is great!
@@nibsvkh A very prominent psychologist I know says there is no such thing as 'normal.' Although he had his eccentricities, Tiny Tim was a good and kind man.
The weirdest thing is 12:56. she doesn't seem totally willing, he is old and he kisses a 17-year-old girl in front of her husband saying that she is a good kisser. it disgusts me. for Tiny Tim, I don't know what to think about it, I like him a lot as an artist but some things bother me, and this marriage is one of these things, knowing that he abandoned his daughter for years afterwards. And then he started dating young girls again.. I don't want to judge but I don't think that's right. I’m having a hard time figuring out if he was a good person or not, because I know he was very different. Everyone says he was very nice but some people also said that he was very misogynic 😐 (and i think his attraction for young women is not right) maybe men in the 60s were all like that and even worst, I just know he was a good artist and I wish I could learn more about him
@@fannycaoht May I assume from your rant and personal belief that this was 'so wrong' that you find the early generations in the Bible equally so? Because you had all those old men who were widowed marrying girls who were between 15 and 17 years old too. Plus being in your 30's is NOT old. Its actually YOUNG. Those men in the Bible were in their 70's and 80's or even more when they remarried. So if you think THAT is wrong, then you think God is wrong. And if you think God is wrong, perhaps you should run for the job and rewrite the Bible like the emperor Constantine did at the first council of Nicaea.
