Watching others is how I learned what to do to make your cruise cabin a home away from home right away on that first day.
The tips and tricks that I gathered include emptying your luggage and putting it out of the way,, some must have items to pack, and how your stateroom attendant can be helpful in handling special requests.
These cruise cabin tips are helpful, especially for beginning travelers. Since I am a beginner too, I share what you will want to do that first day to make your cruise easy sailing.

ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Kristie. I live in Southern California with my husband, Noah, and our son, Kody. Cruising is a bucket list item for us and we hope to go on many more in the years to come.
Our first cruise to Alaska was at the top of our list. Traveling by cruise ship is a perfect way to see the sites without having to unpack between destinations. As such, we look forward to more cruises where sightseeing at ports of call is our primary goal.
I am a teacher by profession and once I start learning about something that I am passionate about, I just can't help but want to share about it.
It is my greatest hope that you find my videos helpful and entertaining.

My last cruise when I was in a pinch because my husband's dress shirt was totally wrinkled. I just wet down the wrinkled spots and used a blow-dryer, the heat from the blow dryer took all the wrinkles out. Same concept as a clothing steamer without having to pack one which takes up a lot of space.

Always tip your stateroom attendant extra. We like $10 per day. We also bring. Publix state of Florida reusable grocery bag. We also pack a box of Grahmaldi’s chocolate potato chips, s popular regional treat. If I find a cool shoreside magnet, we’ll get that too. Also, tip porters at the cruise port. (Based on the complexities and number of your bags/checkin. Also, the driver of a shuttle or tour guide. We travel with lots of 5s for all of that.

Love the tip about asking for a fan. I get hot at night.

Fortunately, the air in the cabin was cool, so I didn't end up needing the fan. If you do ask for one, do it the first day just in case they have a limited supply.

On packing cubes: I watch videos and room reviews to see what the storage situation is. If there are enough drawers I’ll use packing cubes. If it’s more shelves I skip the cubes and opt for collapsible bins (available from the dollar store.)
@cruisingwithkristie
@cruisingwithkristie Год назад
Wow. Thanks for the two tips! I definitely will watch videos for the ship I am sailing on next time. And, I am going to check out collapsible bins. I’ve never heard that tip. Brilliant!😀⭐️💡

On our Mediterranean cruise our room attendant went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. I know that the tip was included in our fare but we tipped him 50 Euros.

We bring a few non-slip hangers for clothing that will slip off a wooden hanger. I also get rid of hangers with metal clips. The first thing you loose because it is snagged or damaged will educate you. We leave the hangers.
@cruisingwithkristie
@cruisingwithkristie Год назад
Oh! Wow, I didn't even think about the metal hangers damaging clothing. I can totally see how I lucked out that one of them didn't come into contact with my dresses. That would have been terrible. I will definitely ask my room steward to bring more regular hangers and remove and one with clips. Thanks again. You are full of great insights.

Thanks for putting all those tips in one video. I’m going on my 16th cruise next Sunday. I like the tip of putting the items that I put in the safe in a baggie. This way I can easily retrieve my items and segregate them from my wife’s items. Also, hair dryers are normally in all cabins. Btw you can take things off the ship in U.S. ports, not in foreign ports (as well as I believe in Alaska.). Hope that you had a great time on your trip.

Glad that I had something to offer a seasoned cruiser. I love the idea of using the baggies to keep your items separate. We definitely had a great cruise and can't wait to go again.

This might not find you in time for your cruise. When cruising in an inside cabin, you will want to bring a sunrise alarm clock. Some ships have where you can just tune your tv to the outside video feed for light, but sometimes the tv set will automatically turn off after a while, which would defeat that trick.
@cruisingwithkristie
@cruisingwithkristie Год назад
Great tips. I do wish I would have had a sunrise alarm clack. If would have bed. A gentler way to wake up. Thanks for the tips and tricks! 😀

From the desk of a Hotel Manager, Princess Cruises. Ask for hangers right away. We usually run out. Anything involving eating or drinking is a function of room service not the cabin steward. We have do it yourself laundry including steam irons on every ship. Bring your own laundry detergent, we charge for it and for the washers and dryers. Blow dryers are in every cabin.

Hi There Burningblue1254. I'm so glad to see that you made it to my channel. I have a question for you. If my viewers want to find out about what their particular Princess Cruise ship has available, how could they get that information? I am guessing they could go to a Facebook Forum for their cruise line, but is there a more direct way?

I have allergies and not able to use dryer sheets. I can smell people who use the cheapest brands of sheets. Thinking about a cabin having smells….. I am wondering about non scented Fabreeze? How about Poo-Pourri for smells?
@cruisingwithkristie
@cruisingwithkristie Год назад
I actually brought Fabreze in a small bottle instead of the dryer sheets and it worked great. I think the poo-pouri is meant to react w water, but I could be wrong.

Most people don’t know that you can go to the service desk and ask for them to NOT charge you the automatic gratuity. Then instead you can use that $$ to personally tip your room attendant & dining room wait staff instead. It’s nice to tip directly instead of the gratuity that goes in the cruise line pockets.
@cruisingwithkristie
@cruisingwithkristie Год назад
Hi Annette. Thanks for contributing to my channel. I was aware of this, but I do worry that the behind the scenes staff won't benefit from the gratuity. I do wish the cruise lines were more transparent with how the money is allocated to the crew. 🙂
