Some of that older twin and earth sheath is a nightmare to strip off! I do love modern tools and have a pair similar to those, but still love my 27 year old cable knife for older cables!!

Back in the day, I was tough to pull earth (CPC) down to split the outer casing, then trim it with side cutters...lol, now we have these wonderful (expensive) tools to make it easy. Good video 👍🏻

We have been using green/yellow earth sleeving since the early to mid seventies. Grey outer sheath I would concur with you Gaz end of the nineties early two thousands . We were still using white Sheath TW&E up to about the mid to ninteis , And it wasn’t low smoke/ halogen. Just standard PVC . Those TW&E strippers are fantastic but sadly a waste of time when it comes to the back boxes. It simply a lot easier and quicker to just pull the Earth conductor back along the required length.

You're not supposed to use the CPC to strip it because it stretches the copper (it was in an efixx video). There are other, better ways to do it like using a knife as Gary suggested.

quickwire, jokari and CK are all the same tool. As demonstrated they are excellent but, now my blades are a bit blunt, what is the option to replace? Could you do a video on this perhaps?

Also, just as a buying guide, a VDE 1000v rated screwdriver with a 3.5 or 4mm flat tip is what you need for UK 3 pin socket outlets.
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 3 месяца назад
@@LeighWinspear 3.5 - 4mm is good for pattress screws, but it's a bit small for socket terminals. I'd say 4.5 - 5mm.

@gadgetman36 some say 4.16367mm is ideal.

Cable that has been installed for a good few years will work harden, both copper and pvc more on power circuits than ltg. due to higher loads.
