Powder coating is an industrial process. Powders for powder coating are optimised for different applications, whether that be long term abrasion resistance, uniformity, UV exposure, sticking to rough surfaces, hiding surface defects, etc. The harbor freight powders are designed to hide surface defects on rough parts. For that purpose, they work well. For the purpose of preserving detail with high uniformity, they are the wrong kind of powder. Mixing powders probably is a bad idea more often than not, if you aren't considering what the powders are intended to do.

Hey, dude. Good advice. more people powder coating now more than ever. I feel that it's a breakthrough in casting and done at considerable cost savings as start-up costs. good video.

I've been using HF red with the dry tumble method for rifle bullets in a ton of surplus military rifles and get excellent accuracy and consistency in them. The loads are easily more accurate than I can shoot with iron sighted milsurp rifles...maybe if I was trying longer ranges with a scoped modern rifle, I would see some shortcomings. And of course it works great on handgun loads.

Just getting into cast bullets, been loading with jacketed. For correct sizing I am checking each gun I'm loading with a ball mic down the barrel, can I get a good reading on the tops of the rifling plus your .01 or .02 added for sizing?? Thought you my know thank you. Also plan on powder coating.....

good video man. I will say, however, that I have had very good luck with my "leftovers" powder bucket. Seems like when I use the collection of leftovers, I get very good coverage and coating. I've used several powders in the past and definitely have my favorites now. A good powder is a great start.

Thanks for covering this . Sadly some of us had to learn these things the hard way ( trial and error ) . I ruined a batch of powder once from not fully drying my water quenched bullets before powder coating . Damp bullets don't powder coat well .

I can’t get my powder coat to stick at all in south Florida, humidity is just to high to create static with the heat and tumble method.

You would be amazed how well the HF paint looks from the spray gun! You know the HF black paint that everyone knows doesn't work with tumble - well it looks amazing from spray gun, I was blown away first time I used it. I only try to spray my rifle bullets since it's more time consuming but it's a lot more uniform. Since I "recycle" my left over powder I noticed that next batch just doesn't want to work with tumble that well and when that happens it goes to my spay gun where everything works lol
