I've started doing a little video every day. It is helping me be more natural and more me when I get on camera to film my RU-vid videos. Such a great exercise! Like literally I was taking notes watching this. Thank you so much, Vanessa!! You're brilliant and I get so much out of all of your videos!! 💫

That "How I" shift mindset was def a gem!!! I am a self taught seamstress and it seems like I do EVERYTHING differently than what I may see on RU-vid or read. But, my sewing methods seem easier and honestly makes more sense. I had a baby a few months ago and now I am starting a custom cloth diapering and essential accessory brand for babies and a lot of my "how to cloth diaper" and care techniques are totally different than the average cloth diapering mommas. I will probably get crazy feedback on my methods but I dont care because this is how I do it and I really believe others can benefit if they step out of "this damn box." Thank you sooo much

Really great video Vanessa, and so many practical tips to try for feeling more confident on camera. Personally, I found the part about creating "How I" instead of "How To" content has opened up a whole new perspective and is certainly something I am going to incorporate going forward (and not just related to video content either) 😀

Love your idea of filming to share, not teach! Thanks Vanessa 💜 I like to batch film content a few weeks at a time, it helps me get in the groove that day.

I feel a lot more passionate and comfortable when speaking from my own experience and I always think about how a video I make could be helpful to a past version of myself just like you said. But I somehow thought I would be taken less seriously if I spoke from that space, not entirely sure why. Thanks for affirming my original motivation to make videos. Really appreciated the work you put into this video!

Vanessa, this video was mind blowing! Girl, I had to pull out my note pad. As a new YoutTuber, you blessed me in so many ways I don't have room in this comment to share. Everything Vanessa has said from start to finish is what I’ve been practicing with my sit down videos and trust me when I say I’m always proud of the end result. I’ve gotten really positive feedback from some viewers as well. Does it take more time and energy? YES! But I’d rather do it that way than stick to my old ways and not be proud of what I put out as content. Thank you, Vanessa. This is a reassurance that I’m on the right track as a growing creative. 💕

Speak to yourself and share your experiences is EXACTLY what I’m going to focus on to tune out my imaginary noise of what others may be saying. It reminds me of having self compassion and helps me not be so obsessed with perfection. I don’t expect perfection in others so I have to turn that to myself as well! This is a gem! ❤✨

This made so many light bulbs turn on in my mind! Specifically the "How I..." mind-shift segment. Suddenly, thinking about scripting and talking about xyz isn't so scary. I remember presenting projects in Uni, and when I spoke about what I did, it was super easy, since I wasn't teaching anyone anything, but talking about my steps to get to the final version of my project. This gives me lots of ideas on how to tackle my own videos. Thanks for the tips, Vanessa!

I loveeeeed this video especially the tip to speak from a place of sharing rather than teaching. I am just starting out and have 2 followers (my mom and my boyfriend haha 😊) and I find the idea of teaching or speaking to the whole internet so scary. But reframing it as “this is what works for me / this is my experience” is much less scary and even exciting. I also loved when you said not to compare my first draft to someone’s 200th video. As a writer I tell myself that all the time but it never occurred to me to apply that to creating RU-vid videos. You are so right. Vanessa, thank you for all of the information you put out - super helpful for those of us just starting out. Definitely underestimated how awkward it is speaking to a camera....alone....in your room...surrounded by unfolded laundry. The tips are greatly appreciated, but it is also nice to hear that someone as polished and seasoned as you do multiple takes.
