Hey Doug, is there a place that will professionally install your hummingbird side imaging units and have it all done for you? If im gonna spend 3 grand on a new unit i will want it done perfectly. Thanks
Doug, what if you use an older Minnkota battery charger with newer AGM batteries? Does this pose an issue? What I have now is a Minnkota MK 315 charger.
Would you say for most people the higher amp models are not worth it since most house circuits have 15-20 amps of output per breaker? It seems to me on our pontoon I should only go with an MK 212 or MK 318 (depending on whether I need to charge the starting battery or just the 2 trolling motor batteries) because I won't get 60 amps out of my circuit anyway.
I guess after reading this www.minnkotamotors.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=2909 there is a difference between AC and DC when you're talking AMPs. The MK 330 uses 7.2 AC amps and 500 watts. So it looks like even this MK 460 will not trip a 15 AMP circuit but that one might get close. Most of us probably use 12 or 24 volts. 36 volts is most likely used by die hard fishermen.
Where or how did you mount/install the charger. I cant find a spot without either drilling through my hull, gas tank or livewell. This unit is very large like my 345pc. I like the unit but it is just too large to find anywhere to install it. I would hate to have to return this product.
Ok thanks Doug. Got some aluminum. One issue I had was when I hooked everything up... the batteries were already pretty much fully charged. The new charger would only go to 75% on all batteries (Flooded). My two deep cycles were bubbling and some water would start seeping out of the small vent holes. This has never happened before with my old charger. Do you know what this could be? I wouldn't dare leave this charger plugged in and leave it as im now concerned of an explosion or cooking my expensive batteries.
I just a got 2018 zx225 with this charger and blows the breaker for some reason. And it will also not charge the number 2 battery. And it shocks me when i plug it in at home.
I would call MinnKota Customer Service 800-227-6433. Soemthing doesn't sound right. It could be something in the house circuit but I would ask MinnKota First and probably want an electrician to look at your breaker & house electric circuit too
Just ordered my Minnkota 460pc can't wait to get it. Now decided on new batteries. Should I go win odyssey or exide. I would like to have all agm batteries 3 for trolling and 1 for starting. Any suggestions? I am running a fortrex 101 but switching to a new fortrex 112 in a month.
If you plan to keep for long time the AGM are a great choice in Batteries. THe Odyssey Batteries are made just 20 miles south of me and are a great product. I use Lead Acid Batteries as they are economical and I turn a boat every year or two and fits my needs
I was pretty interested in buying your boat but one came up for sale locally and just paid cash for it. I didn't have the time to come drive out to you. As my busy season for work is getting into full swing. Maybe I'll catch the next boat.
Hey Doug, could you do a demo on vertical fishing? How to locate using side and 360. Then honing in and using 2D for drop shot. How your bait looks on the graph? What to look for in identifying fish that are active and will feed. How the fish responds to your bait and whether it will bite. How to distinguish fish that are hugging close to the bottom. What they look like when they are going to eat it. How to tell if fish are competing. Screen time with it showing you drop the bait in and talk about how it looks going down and where the fish is in relation to the transducer. This would be very much appreciated.
Im talking about an on the water show. Demonstrating how to recognize your bait and fish on the graph. Not just tips and bait choices. Locating the fish with SI then using 2D to vertical fish. Actually dropping your bait down in the water and talking about how it shows up on the graph and what it looks like in relation to the fish. How a fish will look wether its in the centet of the cone. How they look when they raise up and follow it down. When you have a good chance of catching a fish and when they are not interested in it. With both 2D and SI.Just looking for some help utilizing my 1198 when vertical fishing.
Lithium Batteries require special charging. I would call MinnKota Customer Service and the Battery Manufacturer. If you don't charge them correctly they will over heat and catch fire. WHy I am not running Lithiums until they get that problem resolved.
Many Humminbird Dealers offer installation of check with Marine Dealers those are the most popular places to get installed. I do all my own rigging because I want to know exactly how it's rigged and done perfect to my standards.
Would it be possible to install a 1198 HB unit on a pro team 165 bass tracker? It doesnt have a jack plate so im guessing i would need to use a mount for under the boat.
